  • Join RBD guest, Carmen Geddes of Ten Sisters Handicraft, as she demonstrates how to make an easy, no-fuss, raw-edge double wedding ring baby quilt. This is a scrappy project that does not demand a lot of precision. In fact, Carmen encourages, inexactness to compliment the quilt's raw-edge scrappy look. Download the template here:

    At first I wasn't sure about a Dbl Wedding Ring would be good for a Baby Quilt.... when all was said and done I fell in love with it!! I think I'll call it Baby's Dbl Teething Ring 😂 It reminds me of the Teething Rings my children had in the '70s. Thanks for sharing the ideas... very clever 👏 👌

    Have you tried using freezer paper for the fabric arc template? Then you can iron it in place, and if you make several of the same template, you could cut the entire strip.
    You can also use school glue instead of fusible web to position your arches. You can press it without steam to help dry it or pin the ends and the center of each arch and wait for the glue to dry. School glue is washable, just like the school glue stick; after the quilt is washed, it will be soft.

    On machine quilting, you make it look easy to pivot when using only fabric piece that is one block size. I find so many machine quilting videos demonstrate the same way. It is misleading. However when quilting a larger quilt, even baby quilt size you would need to free motion quilt in my opinion. Could not easily straight line machine quilt. That being said; I love this quilt and method for making top. Looks great and fabric possibilities endless. Thanks

      I have quilted up to a queen size quilt on my domestic machine. You can plan your quilting so that you don't do each individual piece and pivot around it. For example, you could quilt the tops of all the rings in 1 row and then go back and quilt all the inner curves on that row.

    I made a wedding ring quilt for my son and daughter-in-law and said I would never make another one but I think I’ll try this method for my daughter and son-in-law. Very creative!

    If you want your quilt to last, do NOT just throw it in the washing machine...UNLESS you really don't like the quilt and don't want it to last. Instead, put the quilt in the machine by itself, set the machine to the gentle cycle and use a MINIMAL amount of FREE and CLEAR detergent when you wash the quilt. THIS IS NOT AN OLD PAIR OF JEANS. DO NOT THROW IT IN THE DRYER ON HIGH HEAT!!! Instead, if you want the quilt to last, dry it for a short time (5 minutes) on permanent press/ medium temp. Then remove it and let it air dry in the shade or on a drying rack. Some of the quilts I made have been washed using a regular cycle and then dried on high and they haven't lasted. I was shocked when I saw how they looked. I am glad the recipients enjoyed using them, but it was my mistake for not making them realize how to care for their quilt. Now I enclose a quilt care card with every quilt I make. I still use a 30 year old quilt and it looks like new because I wash and dry it gently..oand it really does not take any extra effort..

    Brilliant quilt. Love the video, but though you left the template you didn’t give the pattern. How many arc’s as you call them do you cut? How large is it? How many center squares and what size? Is that a full Jelly Roll or did you use something smaller? Then love the shape, is it just rounded corners or is it scalloped large? So many questions😂😂

    I think since you’re using pre cuts it would be easier to put your fusible on the back of your strips before you cut.

    Could you use the 28-inch rotary cutter instead? Also, it isn't easy to turn the whole quilt so plan out how you want to do the quilting with the least turning. In rows or diagonal. Just plan! Beautiful quilt and an easier way to do it. Thank you for sharing. Read the comments there are several great suggestions.

  • @roseannecarratkinson4271
    @roseannecarratkinson4271 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also remember that with a bigger quilt it will be a ton of work to keep rotating your whole quilt. You could just go along the archs first, then add your square centers last. That way you can make just one pass at a time, without trying to rotate the huge quilt.

    • @ellen89
      @ellen89 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It seems she wants the fusible to be smaller than the cut curved piece on purpose. I presume to allow the edge to come up and fray slightly once stitched down for the raw edge appliqué look

    Does the fusible web make the appliquéd quilt stiff? Would Solvy (sp?) work so it could be washed out? I guess not if not stitched down. 😊
