It could be my personal taste but I prefer Trenchers to the Magpie and Riverside Fisheries do a great takeaway for fish and chips and on championing your great eateries, Humble Pie and Mash is a great alternative to those who don't want fish and chips
I hope the new riverside cafe at Ruswarp isn't going too upmarket! Not happy that they seem to have torn up the lovely lawn where we've had many happy lunches....
Time stands still for no one sadly. I guess its the tourists that bring in the money. Much prefer it there out of season when it's a bit quieter. I dont know how the locals put up with all the crowds. Wendys in whitby, really? Just what you need!?
Didn't I already see an article about this some time ago saying that the Council are not going to allow any more properties to be holiday lets, only residential ❓ Has that changed ❓
I don’t think Councils have that power, although I may be wrong ? I think what did happen was an introduction of council tax on second homes. Again I may be wrong.
I e got a static caravan in high hawsker we’ve been coming down for years. I get really tired of the Whitby folk going on about holiday let’s and tourists all of us caravan owners have to pay council tax plus we all add thousands of pounds into the tills all over Whitby if it wasn’t for us do they think there would be a need for all of the people who are employed for seasonal jobs
My wife and myself have been holidaying in Whitby for over 20 years and have recently noticed big changes. The pedestrians crossing the bridge over the river is too busy at times and I think common sense tells you that pedestrians should keep to the left side regardless of what side you are coming from. Its also sad to see m and co and shoezone disappearing and to bring an American burger bar into Whitby (yuk). We were in Whitby a month ago and spoke to the staff of Shoezone and they informed my wife and I that the guy who had Papas promised the Shoezone staff when they took over the building there would be no chance of them being evicted as he owned the whole building then reneged on his promise by screwing the staff by telling them they were being evicted with hardly any notice. Just so he could open American burger eatery. Bloody terrible!! Having said that we will probably be back next year as we love Whitby
There isn't anything wrong with change & investment but Whitby is a special place... nothing that changes the appearance of the town shouldn't be allowed it's unique in the UK
Is the Mary Anne Hepworth, old lifeboat, still around? Does Barry still have it? Not seen it last few times I have visited. Great video and loved the aurora shots the other week. 🖖😊
The difference between something like Wendy's is that I'd try it once for curiosity, but I'd go back to a local cafe like Java repeatedly. It's going to look like a neon thumb sticking out of the corner like that.
Shoezone has been there forever. I'm not surprised papas are closing. It was a bit meh,and the chips wernt very hot. I feel sorry for the staff though.
I love Whitby, and I will be back soon - but a Wendys in Whitby - the heartland of Fish and Chips and you plonk an American Burger place in it. I love the pie and mash place, and a few of the other food outlets - but I am unlikely to ever enter an American Burger restaurant - I dont do that where I currently live, let alone when back home. The problem is that holiday lets bring in your tourists, and that brings in the majority of the customer base that keeps a fair size chunk of the town afloat. That is a sad reality, I left Whitby in the 80's as I couldnt afford to live there, and decent paying work was thin on the ground. So I left. Today I live in the South, earn reasonable money, and have my head above water (just), my retirement plan is to return to the town in the next decade, and live permanently there. I just need my employer to agree to a few work adjustments, and in theory with a bit of give and take I might be able to continue working and come home. Failing that I will be back in a few weeks anyway -
Thank you Glenn good informative vid yet again ,loved the idea of the waterside restaurants looks very expensive though. The shoezone shop has that not been closing down for the past twenty years ,every time i come to Whitby it always has the closing down sale on. I never saw any dolphins but there looked like quite a few beached whales on the beach lol
Great video, but give me Whitby in the autumn/ winter any day.👍
You are without doubt the BEST revewer of Whitby and the surrounding area in my opinion.Keep up the good work, thank you 👍.
Thanks, will do!
I lived in Whitby back in the 80s. Loved it then but its changed so much.
People want to stop moaning and thinking about what they wish for Whitby is still a great town. Time stands still for no one xx
I always say the same Carol. We can't go back to 1980
Some great street photography photos and views of Whitby. Thank you.
Many thanks!
Off to Whitby in a few weeks for a short break, 🤗 can't wait just love ⛵🐚 Whitby 💙
you hear about so many coastal towns becoming decrepit but whitby bucks the trend as it seems to have a special kind of energy
W8 Shoezone is always closing down. Great vid. Whitbys is booming.
It could be my personal taste but I prefer Trenchers to the Magpie and Riverside Fisheries do a great takeaway for fish and chips and on championing your great eateries, Humble Pie and Mash is a great alternative to those who don't want fish and chips
@@jansenblyth4320 I love the magpie for the smoked haddock and salmon in thermodore sauce with mashed potatoes, absolutely beautiful
@@simoncampbell3144 like I said mate, it could be personal taste
That's us!! Not bothered over magpie at all.
Had fixh & chips at the Star once, lovely! Surprised when it closed down, thought it was a moneyspinner, if only from the overflow from the Magpie!
I hope the new riverside cafe at Ruswarp isn't going too upmarket! Not happy that they seem to have torn up the lovely lawn where we've had many happy lunches....
That gull wasn't bothered about the weather, he was looking for his next "Chips". Great vlog as always.
Great vlog, whitby buzzing there, great to see 😊

Hope the Waterside Cafe is still the Same but Updated Rather then Picnic Tables or have Owners Changed?
New owners Phil.

Reckon you would be a great guide / narrator on the Whitby bus tour with all your local knowledge past & present
Except he actually hates tourists....FACT
Great video of a very busy Whitby, glad you've got some decent weather for the holidaymakers!! Does that lovely fresh fish get bought locally?
Have the Ruswarp the row boats closed down?
No.
Great to see Amber Mason busking in Whitby! (10 mins in), very popular on tiktok. Met her in York at the xmas markets
She was excellent.
Busker 👍👍 good on ya mate. Who was the lady singing .... beautiful. Great video once again. 🙏👍🙏

100% agree….but can also understand where they’re coming from. 😊
Best fish and chips are at trenchers. Better than magpie
I've always loved Whitby, but i don't want to go there now. Look at the state of it!
Imagine living here.
@@thewhitbyphotographer I live in York and it's much the same.

Plenty of whelps a few Pints or more at Hastings anytime❤
I have loved Whitby for over 50 years but now it is unrecognisable and too busy to enjoy.
@kathsmith5064 I totally agree, used to live there. Left in 2014 just as shops for locals were closing and it sadly became busy all year round.
Wendy's there , no that's just wrong
Love Whitby but try to go early spring or autumn to avoid the crowd
Is the Mary Anne Hepworth, old lifeboat, still around? Does Barry still have it? Not seen it last few times I have visited. Great video and loved the aurora shots the other week. 🖖😊
Hi, Barry sold the old Lifeboat quite some time ago now. He has a little pirate boat he takes trips on these days.
Bring it home brits bring it home,1st june big day, stand firm.
Wonder how many people remember the Chain bridge tea gardens on the Carrs. Magpie def the best.
I'd never been. Was it good ?
Trenchers for me.
@@paulherron6822 They just opened a takeaway on Bridge street.
We used to walk to Sleights and have tea at the Country Cafe that was really good.

The residents sold out

I think it will be the same staff. If I’m correct it’s still owned and run by Pappas. I was also told they are very good to their staff
Seems a lot of tourists think the whole of Whitby is a pedestrian zone😎
Gaz North Yorkshire coast
It may well become a pet zone soon.
A Wendy's!!!! What are they thinking?

The only Wendy’s in Whitby was the flower shop on Baxtergate. 🤣
Is that Louis on the fishing boat? 🥰
It certainly is :)
Nice to see the black pearl,me dads best mate is Barry
Magpie still running on its past reputation.
Either you want a thriving town or a dead one 🎲
MMM
If there’s nothing new in Whitby how will the town keep going love whitby
One day it will all be gone.
Its a mini Scarborough getting . Nooooooooo! . Dont bother me,😊 i spend most of time on pier in summer .

Yeah, Im always sceptical about shoe zone closing down. But maybe this time.
Love the Magpie, by far the best 😁
No dolphins but I think you had a seal or two at 11:45 (on the left of SeaSalt)?🦭🦭
Yes you may be right, I did see one bobbing about around that time.
