- The beautiful Alaska NORTHERN LIGHTS is our painting today! This will be an EASY landscape as I take you step by step. Learn how to paint the Mountains, Trees and the Aurora Borealis. I'm using just a few Water Mixable Oil colors to paint this. [Don’t have water mixable oils?] Then just use your own brand of oils or acrylics.

PAINT COLORS: 5 Water mixable oil paints
Titanium white, Ultramarine blue, Sap green, Alizarin crimson and Cad yellow,
OTHER MATERIALS:
Black Gesso Canvas panel or canvas of your choice 8"x10", [1oz water mixable thinner, mixed with 1 tsp water mixable linseed oil] a small palette knife, blender brush, 3/4" floral or synthethc brush, #3 fan brush, 3/8" flat brush, #6 filbert brush, #6 flat brush, #2 liner brush and #0 or 1 round brush very old and frayed.

watching you work is so fun...Working on black canvas is so fun but its so hard to adjust light and reflection... Gorgeous painting Yovette. Just wondering if this could be done using Acrylic paint and some sort of retardant or magic white for acrylics to slow down the drying time.
Yes Newfy, this can be done with acrylics and a retardant! I already have photos from followers on this one that used acrylics. So difinitely give it a try, and have fun!

Sounds great Anthony! Just remember it is a learning curve and something new! So be patient with yourself! Try to follow along with me. Worst thing that can happen is spraying it with water, blotting the paint off, and you have a clean canvas to start all over again.

Is there an acrylic you using
Mix with linseed oil and water
No Bernice, acrylic is a water based product. I am not using it with water mixable oils.

What is water solvent oil paint
Water mixable oil paint is oil paint that has been modified so it can be cleaned with soap and water instead of toxic solvents or thinners. Very nice to work with.
