This show really does feel ahead of its time. The animation is fluid and graceful, the characters are charming and a bit unorthodox given what you would see in these kinds of shows (the main male character is more Peter Parker than Tony Stark), and the action was pretty incredible. If anything held it back, it was the villains, which were pretty par for the course when you get down to brass tacks. That said, wonderful 80s magic right here.
The camera angles and motion on this anime are out of this world ! You will never find another hand drawn animated series or movies with this camera angles and motion. WHOW !

The six individual Orbots all had comedic personalities, while Gary Owens was the most over-the-top narrator possible. And then they'd combine, and all silliness would be thrown out the window. That said, it still deserves a better legacy than "sued out of existence by Tonka because they were somehow too similar to Gobots despite being nothing like Gobots".

The Real Issue was Tonka didn't want competition for the gobots so sued saying that orbots was a rip off of gobots. Thankfully Transformers got revenge for the orbots by crushing gobots in popularity.
There are photos of preliminary test shots of Godmars in Orbots colors. Also, there are papercraft models of the team. Very simple construction, but effective.
Yeah, I notice that when I was a kid. How did the space car, commander and Ono fit inside Torg's chest? I just had to chalk that up to "23rd century technology", but even I knew that was a cop-out.
They have elements of shapeshifter just like megatron. When they get bigger for combination their shape become more edgy compare to curvy in human size. Ooo my I couldn believe that I'm so genius can figured it out the sense and logic in cartoon since I was a little kid watching this show. Come on guys it was just A CARTOON! They can do what they want whenever they want just like Hollywood movies. Just enjoy the show
I assume that they have the technology to increase their volume and mass when assembling into the Mighty Orbots; And why not? The orbots have abilities that appear to be practically magic. Chalk it up to future tech.

It even uses the same sound effects as GodMars when the robot combines. The never-produced toy was going to be a recolor and slight remold of GodMars, too.

The one problem this show had was going up against Muppet Babies & The Smurfs on Saturday morning. If it was placed at 10am, it would’ve KILLED!
-Couple that with competing against ABC's line up of Pac-Man, Scooby-Doo and CBS's Saturday Supercade.
10 am was too late. You had to get the kids in the earlier 7-9 am slots. By 10 am, parents were up and trying to get the kids to do something.

IIRC, it was the only Saturday morning kids' cartoon that was actually filmed in 24fps. That's full movie quality. Yea, that's pretty expensive.
