    Not sure the title is accurate tbh. The Bundesliga title race is beyond boring, absolutely agree. But the league itself boasts some of the most exciting, attacking football around. The Bundesliga games are NOT boring. But the title race, DEFINITELY boring.

      I completely agree, the product on the pitch is very exciting with some great players, but the entire structure where one club runs over everyone else is the issue. We saw it in the video, when a huge club like Dortmund has to sell their best players to their competitor, and the TV money/sponsorship difference is just huge, no wonder.

    The reason that Bayern came back with a vengeance in 2013 was not only Dortmund but also the lost CL final "dahoam" in 2012 against Chelsea. The entire 2012/13 season was one big vengeance trip and it was glorious.
    Also, Bayern had several times over the last 10 years where they were really struggling in the League and at one point Dortmund was even ahead by 9 points, but still they squandered their lead. It's not only that Bayern is good, other clubs also do not capitalize on Bayern's mistakes - and they *do* make mistakes.

    • @ezraezra2928
      @ezraezra2928 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Liverpool with Klopp did this in 2019 after losing the UCL Final the last year to Real Madrid, but not after the infamous Mohamed Salah's injury and Karius' humiliation. They were also so close to win the Premier League, but managed to claim it the very next year during the COVID-19 pandemic.

    • @HDreamer
      @HDreamer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Bit of a myth there, yes they make mistakes but in the past decade Bayern making mistakes has changed from having a cold stretch of several games, maybe even having a down year, to maybe losing/drawing a game or two that they shouldn't. Only time the Championship was close in the past decade they still had 78 points at the end and Dortmund had 76. Other clubs have to be perfect themselves to cash in on Bayern "mistakes" nowadays and no one is.
      And to be honest as a non-Dortmund fan I wouldn't consider Bayern and Dortmund switching places every year that exciting either.

    • @MrReese
      @MrReese 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@HDreamer Not a myth at all, pure facts. The season with Kovac as coach was a disaster and Dortmund should have taken the title there.
      And yes, two teams fighting for the title is not that exciting either, but Leverkusen and Leipzig are doing a great job and got some great people in their squads and kept many key players.
      Who knows what will happen in the future. No run lasts forever, but the way the CL is structured makes it so that people who play CL and who go far in CL have so much more money than all the others that it will be very difficult to challenge them. This is only getting worse with the CL reform for 2024.

    • @HDreamer
      @HDreamer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MrReese Again it needed Dortmund to be perfect to beat Bayern and it's just one season anyway, in that "disastrous" season Bayern still had 78 points and won the Cup too. Only reason it's considered sub-par is because Bayern has been dominant every other year and they lost early in CL, not making the final eight.
      Even when he was sacked a season later he had a 5-3-2 record and perfect in Cup and in CL.
      Slow start for Bayern, but a solid to great start for any other club. Kovac just didn't have the flair to be in charge at Bayern long-term. His approach to the game doesn't fit what Bayern wants to be either, but even all that couldn't diminish the talent gap between Bayern and the other clubs all that much.
      I fear the money difference is just too big now and it will just continue to grow.
      Maybe they will slip up once and allow Leipzig or Dortmund a title in between, but it won't go back to the early 2000s or dare I dream the early 90s when we had 3 teams having a chance to win it on the final day and Bayern wasn't even one of them. In the 90s they only won 4 out of 10, that was a good time.
      00s 6/10
      10s 8/10
      20s 3/3
      Bayern isn't to blame for doing a great job of course, after all other clubs demonstrate how to waste money every year (Hi Hertha), but the system is totally broken thanks to CL money. (and of course Bayerns prestige means they get better players for similar money than other german clubs)

    What ruined the Bundesliga and All other leagues is the CL. Its sad. I say that as a lifelong FCB fan. The 50+1 rule is an interesting case. But it is what makes the Bundesliga affordable. DFB doesn't let 50+1 rule scrap, even Sheffield United earned more when they were in PL than Bayern and these are the source that keeps Bayern rich than other. They worked on merchandising, expanding their models. Yes I agree that they BOUGHT and NOT LOOTED Dortmund but what is Dortmund doing to other clubs ? Same thing! Nico Schlotterbeck, Ozcan etc. Bayern had the same rules that other clubs had. Bayern has no foreign investors still it has more UCL than PSG and man city , it shows that BAYERN WERE AND ARE SIMPLY TOO GOOD IN TERMS OF PLANING. Tbh Bayern won't care if 50+1 rule gets scrapped , Bayern will lose one or two league in 5 years after scrapping still Germans will respect Bayern more than others.

      It’s not just the nfl, in other European leagues namely the premier league the broadcasting revenue is also spread more evenly than in the Bundesliga. An argument for the way it is that you hear here often is that this way, the top dogs (so mainly Bayern) are able to remain competitive in Europe against the teams that aren’t held back by 50+1 (namely those w/ insane investment) but tbh, I don’t think that’s necessary anymore and especially during corona there should have been considerations to spread it more evenly since all clubs were suffering under part of their income (the stadiums) being gone which lead to clubs like Köln being in big trouble (and Bayern relies much less on those incomes since they have bigger sponsorships, get money through performance in the champions league etc.)

    Blaming the 50+1 rule is a joke. Shalke had a sugar daddy who poured money on the club despite the 50+1, they simply spent poorly. The same applies to Hertha. Their sugar daddy spent €350 million and they barely avoided relegation.
    Leverkusen and Wolfsburg are owned by two of the most successful corporations in the world and even though Vile Energy Drink FC technically follow 50+1 the football authorities have let them flout it in such a way that they are in fact a company owned team. Nothing stops any of those companies from opening their purses and spending.
    The people responsible for making the Bundesliga boring are the presidents and the chairmen of the clubs. They behave as if it is 1963. I live in a city with an MLS franchise. That team has played 4 exhibition/friendlies against Premiere league clubs since 2000. Bundesliga clubs almost never come to the US unless it is to play in these phony ICC tournaments and that is only Bayern. I have sent emails and Tweets to Dortmund begging Dortmund to come to the US especially the Midwest where there are tons of German Americans with their German American clubs and music societies. Instead they go to Dubai.
    Bayern opened an office in the US several years ago. The man in charge of the office was interviewed on a podcast. His job was in a nutshell to build the Bayern brand in the US. Has any other club opened a US office? I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure they haven’t.

      True. But you have to spend wisely. Just buying "name" players rarely elevate team play. Tactics and good coaching can elevate clubs to play way over their heads like Dortmund did ten years ago.
      I became a fan of German football because it used to have to have Soccer in Germany in 70s and 80s (broadcasting weekly matches in the states). Very shortsighted of those German clubs for not building their brand in the US 😔 Bayern was my favorite club because Franz played for the original Cosmos club and he used to play for them.

    Excellent short documentary DW, as a long life Bayern fan since I got memory it is very interesting everything that was mentioned in the video. Bayern mentality is to be the best, win every match and break records.
    As many in the comments say, and I can’t object, is that the Bundesliga has become a little too predictable about who is going to win it but the fights for the UCL/Europa league/ relegation spots and even the mid table is very exiting. I love watching the underdogs perform well and seeing how many young stars develop at the beginning of their careers. Because again, I think that The Bundesliga has become a seedbed of many top class players that now play or have played for top clubs that have received this financial aid (which is extremely important specially now after the pandemic that have left many German clubs weakened, it would be interesting to see foreign investing in case they delete the 50+1 rule).
    Finally to not make my comment long and boring, until this day I keep and will keep enjoying watching week after week the great and entertaining German football where I know something’s I ain’t gonna miss are exciting goals and lots of fun! MIA SAN MIA.

    So they wanted big changes. Klinsmann was their first try. Then came Van Gaal who build the tactical foundation. The reached the cl final in 2010 for the first time since 2001. Van Gaal also made thomas mueller a star. He turnt Schweinsteiger into a defensive midfielder and in general worked very closely with youth trainer hermann gerland who trained lahm, alaba, mueller, schweinsteiger, kroos, badstuber etc.

      For the World Cup 1974 all the big Clubs like Hamburger SV, Dortmund, Schalke, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Berlin, etc. become big money for renovation for there most private stadiums from the german tax payers. Each round about 200 Mio.€ purchasing power today. But not Munich, they have the new Olympiastadion and gets nothing. This Olympiastadion was not pay by german tax payers. It was funded by a lottery and Olympia collectors coins. The highest rent for there stadium pays Bayern an 1860 at this time. Also some of the fresh renovated stadium where private property of the clubs. This Clubs pays nothing for decades.
      Next point the Bundesliga at this times have a bad stadium occupancy, maybe at 50-60% because of the big money leagues in Italy in the 80ties and Spain in the 90ties where all the stars plays.
      All the Clubs struggle because of the oversize stadiums at this time, because you have to pay rent or operating costs for a 60.000-70.000 stadium. The stadium occupancy become bigger when the Italian and Spanish leagues starts to struggle end of the last century.
      Next fun fact, for the next World Cup in Germany 2006 it was similar. Bayern have build there own stadium before and the other big clubs become the next time german tax money present for renovations.

    The "fall" already happened. Bayern under Ancelotti and Kovac was weak and beatable. Lost some confidence and had inroom fighting or atleast disagreements. Dortmund failed to capitalize on that and in came Flick, Brazzo grew as manager and Kahn took over and Bayern was the unbreakable machine again. Its also Dortmunds fault to some part. They took to a system after 2013 in which they brought in a lot of young players and sold them on for profit. Its great and you love to see them as a talent factory in europe and it brought them some success but if you want to compete for titles you need consistency and form a great squad over years that can challenge Bayern as soon as they struggle. In 18/19 they fell off because they had to many young players with not enough mentality that could challenge thoruhg difficult times after losing the no 1 spot in Germany again after the winter break. I kinda hope that it's the way they are going now. Schlotterbeck, Süle, Adeyemi and Haller seem like players to me that they brought in to stay and form a squad around with Terzic as coach. There are some players like Bellingham and maybe Reyna that I think will leave for a nice sum in the future but my hope driven view of BVB is that they have players they can build a stable core around that wont leave for the first big club offer. Dembele and Haland were great transfers but it was clear from the start that they would come for a short time and then leave for a big sum. Right now Bayern is a machine and I genuinly believe only Liverpool and ManCity would be capable of beating them in a league challenge (Madrid is a cup team, dont think they could compete over a league season).
    Investor are also not the golden child that they are believed they are. So far many investors have failed in german football eg Hertha, TSV 1860 München, Uerdingen, HSV. Even internationally if you look at ManUtd or Arsenal investors don't always do good. Liverpool before the current owners was the same. Id rather have a boring Bundesliga then Clubs selling their soul to investors. I think German Football has to find a way to attract investors and money without giving up the clubs identities.

      I agree with you that Dortmund failed to capitalized as Bayern were having their little issue, but i dont think 18/19 season lost wasn't just because of young players because them players that made the championship and the double back in 2012 weren't older. I think Dortmund were also having their little issues internally, it was just not known on the outside, i guess they're as less Hollywood as Bayern can be sometimes.

      I agree with most of your points but did you just seriously compare the moves of Götze, Lewandowski, Hummels to Rode and Süle? Bayern took three key players while Dortmund took a bench player and a centre back who wasn't a consistent starter.

    • @luminousdreams8405
      @luminousdreams8405 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@elsharkone7 I am not comparing, I am just stating that transfer between clubs are very normal in Bundesliga.
      It was Dortmund's management fault that they failed to retain Lewandowski. Lewandowski wanted more wage,they refused. He completed the contract and came to Bayern as a Free transfer.
      Hummels was Academy player of Bayern. He had many interviews where he stated he wanted to prove his worth at Bayern so his stint was inevitable.
      The only transfer was REALLY wrong was Gotze. When pep was initially talking with Bayern came he wanted Neymar in 2014. Uli hoeness was to stubborn to buy neymar because he don't like him(For obvious reasons) so he gave pep Gotze as replacement. That too buy triggering the release clause. But for me the biggest absurdity was the timing. It was before the 2013 CL final. For that reason I will never forgive Bayern for the transfer. It broke the will of Dortmund in final.
      But nevertheless Bayern is very much needed in this Business oriented football right now. Probably the only club who still play charity football matches with the clubs who are facing bankruptcy. Bayern help small teams in lower division and Many times loaned out money to Bundesliga teams-Even dortmund too. I can't even imagine PSG,CITY or Chelsea with Unlimited funds can do this to keep up the football culture. Bayern more over bundesliga clubs are only doing this.

    I hate Bayern and also admire them because, like it or not, they have built an amazing club. I think they are less to blame for their dominance of the Bundesliga than the big money clubs who don't really want to compete with them. Hoffenheim is backed by SAP, Leverkusen by Bayer, Wolfsburg by VW, etc. so there would be plenty of money for some clubs to really compete. The problem is that they don't want to.

    If you really love football and follow every Bundesliga matchday, you will find out that Bayern, just like any other teams, can be surprised by some underdog and have to fight hard to win... and sometimes they failed, despite all odds.
    Also, stop complaining about Bayern getting other BL teams' stars... Where do you think they would go if their current teams can't match their salary demands? No, they wouldn't put loyalty above money. Yes, they would just go to another league... I doubt BL would gain anything by this.

Now don't get me wrong Bayern are a great team they can only take what's in front of them, I'm blaming it more on the association not changing the league's dynamics.
