  • Over the weekend of February 25th & 26th 2017, the Glenbrook Vintage Railway staged their 40th anniversary with their 4 yearly Steam & Vintage Country Festival in conjunction with the Franklin Vintage Machinery Club. The weekend saw plenty of action on the railway, with Ww 644 operating a mixed train with the recently restored Parlour Carriage, De 507 on display on the newly restored Glenbrook turntable, and Ja 1250 'Diana' in operation on one of its last weekends running on the railway after a faithful 18 years of service, now due for a major overhaul. There was plenty of displays and action across the paddock from Glenbrook station also, showing off traction engines, tractors, steam engines and vintage cars. We cover full coverage of the weekend's event and attractions on display for the general public, and of course the steam trains! Enjoy the sight of steam traction on the railway especially Ja 1250 in action as she will be off the tracks for a few more years to come!

In 2014, I was part of a group spending a weekend at Glenbrook for driving and firing experience under near-mainline conditions. A wonderful experience. 1250 was worked hard, and used a lot of sand.

Every time I see WW644, I can't help but think of the Steam Lives On documentary & a group of guys findin' her in an utter mess, covered in overgrowth & what-not & hearin' 'em say "I know we're railway enthusiasts. But, we must be CRAZY to take THIS on."
I'm glad they did put in the effort to restore her & what an excellent locomotive she is.

That was 480 in that doco, but yes 644 was pretty much a play by play of that trip aswell.
The mallet has since had a bit of love shown to her, and is on the list for eventual restoration.

Fabulous too see these locomotives and the vintage rolling stock out and about. Many of the LA/LB/LC wagons were loaded with scrap metal and sent north they were simply pushed into the melting pot wagon and all.

That 4-8-2 makes a brilliant sound at full chat. I hope all those hats on the open carriage were securely tied down.

Nice to see the Simca Aronde (or was it an Étoile?). I had one in 1974.

Railaction, do these events have demonstration freight trains?

    • @rmz250k7

Relic the pika the mixed train shown in the video is as far as they get on public running days so as we can have people enjoy the ride as well :)
Railfans days, as we call them (because it is a day purely for the die hards) we operate every now and then; are majority freight wagons yes, even a 10t steam crane has been a regular in the consist!

11.52: Pressure 235psi? And no trouble starting the injector? And I'm sure they're firing smoky for effect. GVR teaches smokefree firing. I've always loved the J/Ja class. Fast, powerful, surefooted, good-looking. Easy to drive too.

I think you will find the pressure is 165psi.
