Thanks for mentioning me...glad to be a part of a video with great and distinguished company.... I prefer pure and naturally occurring species.... I think the main reason is because I was in the hobby before flower horns were either created or became known.... So to me any pure species is like the real deal genuine article and anything manmade an imitation.... I would say I'm old school in that respect ...the 1st flower horns I remember seeing way back were definitely interesting and intriguing but i always fell back to prefer the pure natural Species... in my opinion a lot of it is whatever you were exposed to ,for example In my family my now adult daughter is heavily into flower horns ... she likes the qualities that the naturally occurring species have that we both like but Likes the flower horn more so because those qualities are exaggerated .. And since flower horns have existed as long as she's been alive it's not a big deal to her, rather than somebody like myself who remembers the time before.... I can admit as much as I prefer pure species I have seen some flower horns that I think are stunning.... I suppose you have to always put your money where your mouth is so to speak. My current stockist is ,I have 4 Trimac a Motaguense a Gold Barred midas.... and get this if you can believe a Texas /Jaguar hybrid from an unintended spawning.... So I certainly can't say I am one to judge lol.....
In 2000 I ran a fish room at a LFS and we got them in but they never sold unless it was to some one looking for it so we stopped ordering. I haven't seen them since
Very informative video. Being new to the hobby I’m always eager to learn about different fish. My Flowerhorn past away last month. It was a beautiful Zhen Zhu I picked up at a LFS here in Florida. He was a great fish and grew it’s Kok very large. Unfortunately he tried to jump out of the tank and suffered a head injury. I really like that Trimac. I like it’s colors. Almost like a Peacock Bass. Thank you the information. I will look into it.
I agree with you that Flowerhorns are definitely more available then a Trimac. I have yet to see one in a years time but have seen about 50+ Flowerhorns.

Every time I see your trimaculatus , it gives me a tremendous need of obtaining one! I've been keeping central and South American cichlids since the age of 15, and I've never owned one... That's 40 yrs without a trimac. I sense a new large tank is in my future. An ultimate goal would be a breeding pair of amphilophus lyonsi, and or trimaculatus . Thank you so much for your very enjoyable videos!. Not to bash flowerhorns, but I also prefer natural cichlids.

I've kept the usual suspects, I'm not nearly as experienced as you are Scott. Convicts , firemouths, jack dempseys, black belt cichlids green terror cichlids, the largest tanks I've owned are 75 gallons. The most elite fish I've owned was a beautiful red devil/ Midas cichlid, a male alone in a 75 gallon. He only lived to 12 yrs but I'm trying.

I always knew about flowerhorns better never looked info up on them....this video was intersting cause the fish your talking about looks better in my opinion...i always thought that fat bubble on their head looked unnatural...now i know why i felt that way thanks scott
Great video Scott. I also am a lover of trimacs , they are just such a beautiful looking fish. They are also pretty hard to come by in the uk , I was trying to get a pair for a long time with no success but one day I came across a female at my Lfs & I snapped her up straight away, I’ve had her about 1 year and she’s doing great, she’s probably about 8 inches now, I haven’t been able to find a male yet unfortunately. My Flowerhorn has more trimac genetics than anything else. It may be low quality in Flowerhorn standards but I'm loving its personality and coloration. I definitely intended to breed it with a pure Trimac sometime in the near future. Great Video Scott.

Im a hybrid breeder..breed flowerhorns, flowerhorn with red texas , red mammom with flowerhorn ect...i like all fish, hybrid and no hybrid fish... flowerhorn are very nice fish to keep very active and personal fish ...i currently hace a jaguar cichlid and green texas hybrid , very beautiful fish...the only thing i don't like about hybrid fish is thr deform fish like, short body fish and fish with long fin and fish with deformities like the blood parrot fish...besides that i love all fish hybrid and no hybrid.

Admittedly not a big fish keeper but if I were (says very quietly) Flowerhorn aren't for me either. The enlarged nuchal humps make me feel awkward. Trimacs for the win for me. Well overdue video but worth the wait.
trimacs are usually confused with low quality flowerhorns, and i can say without a doubt flowerhorns are way more beautiful and smart than trimacs, and also theyre are plenty of other fish with a nuchal hump, so when people say its not natural it is false, in my opinion a medium sized nuchal hump is the prettyest

People whom are willing and whom desire to enjoy every moment of the life of that fish 🐟 I personally will keep a Flowerhorn if it comes from a reputable breeder and quality stock although my preference if to go with the natural species and not the hybrid fish. Currently I own a beautiful female Flowerhorn and a very beautiful Red Texas Cichlid. Other than that I have a hundred or so non hybrid fish that I simply wouldn’t want to live without.
Flowerhorns = ugly. I just don't see the attraction. It's like the fish had enhancement surgery. I don't keep large Central Americans, but only because I love smaller tanks with schools of fish. Some day though...
If you're interested in the trimac... I find that skip from fish law... Has some of the best trimac...

My fish looks just like the Trimac in the tank in the video but has the bulging head like a flower horn. Guess he’s a hybrid.
