Absolutely exquisite. She sings this with a sense of drama and passion often missing in Mozart singing, while remaining pure, clean, and beautifully musical. The tone is incomparably beautiful. She knows when to lighten the voice, and when to lean into it, seemingly instinctively. And then she caps it all off with a terrific trill. Brava diva!
What I love about this aria is that it is sung really full voice with a very open throat, completely free and, despite sounding like it is at 95% of what she can put out, there isn't a trace of shrillness to it. Just that lovely rounded tone she always has and a great trill towards the end to boot! Big, big lyric voice...and she even sang Minnie, a heavy dramatic soprano role!
Agree with metropolitan1966. Leontyne Price was one of the very first Mozart sopranos I heard and what made me fall in love with opera. Whoever says she has no affinity for this type of music is obviously deaf, racist, or both.
What a talented family. God bless you Mrs. Price, God bless Cissy and Dionne!
Always incomparable ❤

Saturday February the 10th, 2024; happy 97th birthday Miss Price.
Leontyne sang Donna Anna in Vienna to acclaim. Her Pamina at the Met was met with rapturous applause.
She proves the critics wrong who claim she has no affinity for this type of music!

inane analysis
What type of music do they mean?
@@faeriebility Concordo.
Does Miss Price have the money notes? Yes, she does!!
This is from a concert given in Munch in 1968, not 1976.
- Now that makes sense...The voice is so free, It simply floats effortlessly as it only really did during her first decade at the Met...
Impeccabile....ma io non trovo molta anima, per lo meno io la trovo un poco meccanica....non mi emoziona
