Building a Rubric Marines Kill Team: Kitbashing, Roster Building and Struggles

  • Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy kitbashing and building minis, but this could really be handled a lot better. I've been excited for a Thousand Sons Kill Team for a while now, but I'm not going to lie, this did put me off a bit.
I do like how the Games Workshop give you the Build a Kill Team feature on their website, but with certain teams like Talons of the Emperor and the Warpcoven, things are probably a bit too complex.
What do you think about how I had to go about the build? Do you agree that it's too complicated and costly to access some Kill Team options out there? What are your thoughts on Games Workshop's pricing of Kill Teams? Let me know in the comments!

I’ve been looking for this thank you! I just got into kill team and saw 1,000 sons can be used, using this as a reference.

I was looking at the Thousand Sons combat patrol box that has most of what is needed to have the flex. The bespoke teams, you get just what you need. With Warp Coven, you have lots of options in exchange for lots of money. I think the same basically works out for the Hunter Clade (Adeptus Mechanicus) and the Wyrmblade (Genestealer Cultists). I think the Tzaangors are mostly for melee, and probably best just to take them with the default blades and have relentless for the free rerolls of any or all dice. Otherwise the all Marine team might have some trouble with genestealers and other mostly / purely melee opponents.

I hadn't thought of this to be honest - the lots of money for lots of options thing is such a good point, thanks for outlining that.

In a similar position to you and ended up treating myself to the Thousand Sons Battleforce Xmas box last year - you got the ten rubric marines (well 20), the three sorcerers and then a huge Magnus mini which I have no practical use for, but like you I love the character and it'll be a fun thing to paint! Not exactly good value but paid about £100 for it which I could justify as £50 for the Kill Team and £50 for the painting project.

You actually saved on that whole thing - Magnus is about £100 on his own, so you won that deal lol - GW pricing is bonkers

I spent 51$ on the set of 10 you did and then I spent 53$ on a set of 3 of the magic guys so I have more variety on what I can do it was about 109$ on amazon and it's my first kill team or any team... but it was confusing with the little I could do with it there was a 160$ set for whatever is more units above kill team battles but it defiantly isn't worth it, I am watching hours upon hours of warhammer 40k to play with some peeps.

To add onto this I have no paint or anything so this is a good 6-7 hours of working at my job for all this, which isn't too bad but still isn't the best I have none of the blue alien things just a bunch of marines that I can barely use any of them...

Yeah man it's unfortunate that there's no dedicated KT box set for Thousand Sons - I hope we'll get one someday! If you're planning on making another team in future, I'd recommend buying one of the dedicated KT sets like the Legionnaires one or something like that - you'll save a huge amount of money.

@@robotgorillaman I didn't expect a reply since this is old video, but thanks for the tip if I find interest in expanding I'll look into them and see if they suit my play style, thanks you. 🍕

@@robotgorillaman I am currently working on the team and putting it all into KTDASH for easier play but I'm not sure what boons can go on? Is it just Sorcerers? or can I put 1 boon of tzeentch on each marine I have?
It would be great if google or YT had a tutorial or something, but all I can find is equipment stuff which doesn't help much, I know I seen a video on what someone put on their stuff about boons but i've lost it in the like 80+ videos I watched over the past month...
I need a dummys guide to thousands sons tutorial XD
what I understand is I can put 1 on 1 thing and can't have duplicates and I know what weapons im allowed on each and Ill get to equipment next but id appreciate if you know the answer

im just proxying a few of the bolt pistol/chainsword marines as tzaangors and maybe if i can find a two handed power weapon ill use one as the tzaangor champion as well. Just playing with my son tho so it might not be ok to do in public games.

hello, so could i make this team with just a rubric marine box and whats the best setup of them?

    • @robotgorillaman
      @robotgorillaman  ปีที่แล้ว

Yes you can make a playable team - the one i make in this video works on the table with a few variations.
I've only played them once and they do perform well!
