Good video! Thanks. I’m close to 200 pounds so I tend to push my fins hard. I I have a 7-10 twin of my own design that had big Mark Richard’s Futures twins. I set the boxes pretty far forward so the Mark Richard’s made it feel too pivoty and it lacked drive. Tried it with a small trailer but that felt too much like a thruster. Tried it with a Slater Nubster and still not enough drive. I made another board and was about to sell the 7-10 but then I put a set of honeycomb Rastovich Sea Shepherd keels on it and now I love the board! The Sea Shepherds are very thin and concave on the inside (vectors) so are incredibly fast but turn really well because they have a lot of flex. Hey nice work thanks for the info. I recently bought a 5.8 FireWire seaside by machado. But it feels to wide for me , loose in the bottom but stiff in up of the wave, and very difficult for me to sink those rails , so can I compensate that with other fins than de machado quads ? I’m 1.84 meters and weight 174 lbs intermediate Daily surfer, what long to progress, surfing point breaks and beach breaks in Central America . I will thank any advice. Thank you
The newer Machado quads from Firewire seem much improved over the original ones. If you have regular Quads try them and see if it lets you get that rail sunk more. They have less surface area.
I got some carbon fibre fins knowing they would be stiffer but I'm surprised how much faster they are its kinda crazy how much faster they are they whistle like when I'm foil
The stiffness is next level. You may be able to remove the whistle by checking for small chips or specs. Look on the leading edge, trailing edge and then the main fin area. Also check fin box fitting. If you find small imperfections, sand it lightly.
Nice breakdown for all sorts of twinnys. I’ve got an Album Twinbender(Lightbender with a winged swallow), and I threw in a set of Shapers x Album PT twins that I already had and they were waaay to squirley and loose. So I got a set of the EN’s and that settled it down a lot. I’m only 145 lbs(66 kilos?) but I’m heavy footed and push hard so I figured the bigger fin would be a pretty good go even though I’m a lighter surfer. Any thoughts on the EN’s vs Shapers Asher Pacey 5.55’s?
Thank you for sharing that. What an awesome board you have. I have both the EN and the Asher 5.55. I reckon they are pretty similar in surface area. I can take a pic of them both for you side by side. The NVS ONO will get you the next level of grip.
Thanks so much for the insight, a side by side pic would be great. And yeah I’m loving the board so far, just need to dial in the fins. I’ll definitely check out the NVS!

that’s great news about the Akila FCS his fins are epic. The MR twins look really good - I’ll give them a try because I’m heavy. The Akila are too small for me unless the board is very narrow and has channels.
I have a 7’0 Mid ‘6, it’s meant to be ridden as a quad but thinking of trying it as a twin for small stuff..FCS2..I’m 80kg/50yrs/surfed 35yrs..What’s your thoughts?
i use it on my 6.6 CI M23 .so far so good@@giulio1556
What do you think about the Al Merrick twin setup but without the trailer fin? Would that make it too little fin area? I weight 65kg, surf small/weak/flat waves, and ride a 5'6" 19" 2,19" 25L pin-tail with 4 channels (first time riding twinfins tho). Would it be better to have more fin area? Would the power fins work better?
Forgot to specify that I need it to be an FCS2 setup...
@@pablomirac Should be fine for you. When I had a CI Twin in the Maldives years ago that was my go-to setup. No trailer. It had plenty of hold and I am 6 2.
I'll try that! Thank you!
@@pablomirac let us know how it goes!
Hey, great video. What fins would you recommend for a lost RNF 96, 6'1? Im 76kg and 6'0 tall in an begginer/intermediate stage. Learned on a 6'0 soft top.thanks!!
If you have three fin slots ride it as a twin plus trailer. MR fins (Mark Richards) would be a great set to have.
@@blinksurf heyyyy thank you for the answer I will try those fins thanks
@@AlanRodriguez-h6d enjoy
Which would u recommend more for a 60kg surfer. Board is pyzel wildcat 5.10 32L. T1 or akila?
I like Akila
I got some carbon fibre fins knowing they would be stiffer but I'm surprised how much faster they are its kinda crazy how much faster they are they whistle like when I'm foil
The stiffness is next level. You may be able to remove the whistle by checking for small chips or specs. Look on the leading edge, trailing edge and then the main fin area. Also check fin box fitting. If you find small imperfections, sand it lightly.
thanks bro, excelent video
Thank you !
great job James 👏 Tyler warrens are one of my favs as well as the asher pacey uprights they seem to light up most boards
I love those Tyler Warrens for pulled in tails they have less drag than the NPJ. I liked them in a Cymatic I surfed
@@ramonlott5154 I posted your comparison here: instagram.com/p/Cz8cxmGy-DI/?img_index=1 The EN is forward and the 5.55 is more back.
Thanks for the side by side, definitely a good visual comparison. Any insight as to the difference in how the two feel under foot?
@@ramonlott5154 they feel similar to me. I used the 5.55 on further back fin boxes.
Thanks.
Ya twins are hard to dial in ! One can spend hundreds of bucks trying to find the right match , can be like buying a second board just to it right. I can't stand the BMT (Brett Merrick twins) for the CI Twin Pin I got when it was recommended specifically for that model 😂 back to the drawing board
thank you for sharing that.
What about the cant of the fin? That seems to be a big factor in the character of twins…
you are right! Please have a look at this video where I review fins and I mention the cant th-cam.com/video/7gvi2X6r48g/w-d-xo.html
Where can I send you my prototype ? of twin?
Hi get in touch here thanks www.blinksurf.com/contact-us/
Excited to test out a 2+1 on my chunky toe
They should be a lot of fun. I surfed my Chunky toe today and it flies!
Twin fins worked fine in the 80"s before all this new tec came on the scene, sure you can tell the difference between them and may prefer some over other but any surf skeg will do if you know how to ride.
yep, I agree with all of that.
Mate, this vid is awesome! What sort of fins would you recommend in a Hypto Krypto Twin? Been surfing them with my Machado Quads, but they don't seem to work that well...
HS recommends a performance Keel, so consider the Machado Too Fish Keel, or Mikey February Captain Fins Keel or find some Futures K2.
Cheers for the reply @blinksurf. I forgot to say that the board (unfortunately) has fcs2 plugs. Anything you could recommend in FCS?
@@rickikkersheim5491 yes the FCS II Modern keel, Christenson Keel or the Album Keel.
Let's see them surfed.
Epic idea.
It’s pronounced true Ames. Rhymes with rains
THANK YOU ! thats locked in from now on
