Imran Khan is a politician and former cricketer who served as the 22nd Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022. One of the all-time cricketing greats, he won the 1992 World Cup. He founded the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in 1996. As Prime Minister, Khan oversaw the country’s response to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. However, perceived failure to tackle corruption and declining performance in economic and social indexes led to a successful no-confidence motion. This address was delivered shortly before his 2022 protest march on Islamabad.
ABOUT THE OXFORD UNION SOCIETY: The Oxford Union is the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford. Since 1823, the Union has been promoting debate and discussion not just in Oxford University, but across the globe.

Imran Khan is the most respected and popular Leader in Pakistan; in his short tenure as PM, he managed to earn people's respect through his hard work to stabilise the country's economy. Pakistanis consider Imran Khan a national leader second only to founding father M.A. Jinnah.

Tremendous appreciation to Imran Khan, the students of Oxford Union, and the Pakistani students at Oxford for organizing this open speech and dialogue. Imran Khan has brought up the many challenges faced by a developing, third-world country (i.e. Pakistan) making the difficult transition from a pre-industrialized agrarian society to a modern industrialized society. Imran Khan brought many issues facing Pakistan. His greatest focus is on "rule of law." Certainly what separates third-world countries (most countries in the world) and first-world countries (Western Europe, the US, Canada, Japan, South Korea, ...) is the creation of openness, fairness, and respect for human rights. The developed, first-world countries have achieved openness, fairness, and legal protection for individual human rights (especially protection for private property). All you have to do is visit these countries and it becomes undeniably clear. With that said why do we still have such disparity between a handful of developed countries and the rest of the under-developed world? Pakistan and India are two under-developed, third-world countries that have a disproportionately large population who are living at or below the poverty line. In fact most of the world is living under the same impoverished conditions. In 1947 both Pakistan and India gained independence from their colonial master Great Britain. There was great promise for both India and Pakistan to build a prosperous and peaceful future. Yet we immediately see sectarian violence against Muslims by Hindus and against Hindus by Muslims as Muslims moved to Islam-dominated East & West Pakistan and Hindus moved to Hindu-dominated India. Pakistan and India had a great advantage over other third-world countries during the founding of their respective "modern" states. Nehru and Gandhi were both English trained barristers and the two of them established post-British Raj Republic of India. Jinnah was a English trained barrister and he established post-British Raj Islamic Republic of Pakistan. The Britons were at the forefront of the development of modern democratic republican form of governance and the rule of law. Their colonial descendants, the 13 independent colonies of North America, established republican-democratic form of governance even before the Constitutional Monarchies of the British Empire. These 13 colonies would unify to become the United States of America, the Roman Empire of the 20th and 21st century. This republican-democratic form of governance is inextricably tied up with the rule of law. You cannot have one without the other. The Constitution defines the structure of government and the powers of governmental institutions is a set of codified laws in itself. The Constitution also define how representatives are elected by the people into the legislature and the legislature make the laws. The Constitution guarantees the freedom of speech and association. There is freedom for multiple political parties so that no one party can monopolize power. Yet Imran Khan claims that the Pakistani government is an elite group of feudal lords who systematically violate without penalty the rights of Pakistani citizens. Is Imran Khan correct or is he just complaining? Imran Khan is a great cricket master and not an English trained barrister like Jinnah. Jinnah is a Pakistani English-trained barrister. Jinnah understands the basis of English law. Jinnah should understand what constitutes "good British" governance and "good British" rule of law. Should he not? When Jinnah founded the Islamic Republic of Pakistan we see a contradiction of European Enlightenment understanding of good governance and rule of law. The separation of God and State. It seems Jinnah passed British law exam, but when it came to actually creating a fair society the separation of God and State was tossed aside since Jinnah himself was a Sunni Muslim. Jinnah favored an Islamic state where he and other Muslims were favored. The ideas of "Good Governance" or "Rule of Law" are not just an abstract intellectual exercise in Enlightenment thinking. You actually have to practice it in real life. Especially when it can benefit you personally will you exercise in alignment with Enlightenment thinking or retard back to self-interest? When governance and rule of law is truly aligned with Enlightenment thinking then Pakistan and India will join the modern, industrialized republican countries.

😂 He's asked these same questions every day by his opponents. Any person informed on his politics and character, knows that he's very much a by-the-book person. The guy asking the questions doesn't realize that what he is referring to is done by the ISI and the military. Who the questioner does not even bring up. The real power in Pakistan is and has been the military and "security forces". Which is what Khan disagrees with and which is why he was removed by the Army and ISI. Khan's answers were as concrete as could be so I'm not sure what you're referring to there.

If you hear the gunshots, they were not a sniper or a carefully choreographed show, it was a full-on assassination attempt. He's already massively popular to the tune of at least 90% Pakistanis supporting him if you look at the polls or the streets. "It was only a non life threatening injury." The West does not seek to replace the functional Iranian system except to rest assured that the alternative is better than it, and this is the problem of the international system now that it is biased only with interests and does not care about democracy, freedom and the right to self-determination. All this is reflected in supporting the military coup in Egypt, the attempted military coup in Turkey, and supporting the regime of Bashar al-Assad to survive in Syria and overthrow the government of Imran Khan.

In fact, Example fruit is compatible with other system such as social system (almost with the all space) Constitutional order etc. Lets focus on the international relations within the framework. Democracy, civil liberties, norms etc, Fuckng all this great, grand and indispensable values are fruit that have delicious taste for the people enduring the administrators's halitosis. This all fruits at the same time have core in the its centre. But essential thing for us is fruit not core. Do you know what is core. Core is interest of the USA and Europe or whatever. We need to focus on the goluptious fruit. I mean that Natural Order is to offer a fruit. this was a superficial expression sorry hahaha.

"Country was poised for higher growth rate." In fact there has never been a country, let alone a country with a prospect for higher growth rate. The country he has referred to is a failed and bankrupt state. It is crushed under debt. No one talks about debt. No one even mentioned the fact of paying interest on an already accumulated debt. Import exceeds export. They are the subjects a failed and bankrupt state wouldn't talk about. How to talk about over-populated bankrupt state? Instead this puppet, installed by the Pakistan army generals, talk about state of Medina. Rather than talking about the program for taking care of crushing poverty, he wishes to show up like a Messiah. He is there in on the podium because of Pakistan army generals.
