- Share my experience of replacing the outdated navigation with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. I did a lot of research and purchased an aftermarket device but it does not provide any manual about installation. I had to figure it out by myself. (I did contact the seller a lot of times.) Just ordered mine from Ali express. I've done this to my 2008 Honda Civic already and it makes such a difference. However, I did skip the camera installation on my civic due to the complexity. I'm thinking about giving it a go with the MDX, but looks like quite the chore! Thanks for the video! I know I'll be rewatching it many times during my install

@@RichCullen-y3r Not too many. However, I'm still having issues getting the backup cam working and the with the bluetooth audio. My bluetooth connects to my phone, but can't get it to play through the speakers.

For background, I retrofit a Carpuride W701 unit to take place of my navigation screen on my 2005 Acura TL (It looks 100% OEM). I made the appropriate extension cords and my stock navigatio screen now sits in my glove box in case I ever need it. I'm in the process of doing this for my wife's 2007 Acura RDX as well.
I have a 2013 Acura RDX and have been flirting with the idea of purchasing a Grom VLine2, because I couldn't find a clean looking way to install a Carpurride unit. I really like the touch screen abilities and was worried I'd lose that with the VLine2. However, your video came across my account and this looks like the perfect solution.
How is the functionality of the Carpuride in comparison to the unit in this video?

I mentioned it in the video. Basically, contact the seller for the software, download it to a USB disk, plug it to the unit, reboot.
It looks great. I am wanting to do it for my Acura Zdx but I don’t know if the MDX will work.
What harness did you first receive and do you have pictures of the original MDX harness so I can compare with the ZDX. Thanks
The harness I first received is the wrong harness in the left at 0:50 . The stock MDX does not need any additional harness. The harness of the aftermarket unit is used to connect the stock unit with the new unit and enable steering wheel control for the new unit.
Can you upload videos on how the system works, what buttons lose function, and how the 360 camera works.
How long was the shipping process? The same seller sold the 360 cameras?
@@rodneyflorez I purchased 360 cameras but didn't install them because it's very challenging. Shipping the unit from China (actually Hong Kong) to the US took less than a week. But shipping the harness replacement took 2 weeks. I may create a new video to introduce the details in the future. But now I am traveling.

Hey its been a couple of weeks how are you liking the system?
I like it a lot. When I start the car, my phone connects to the wireless CarPlay automatically. iPhone and CarPlay remember my routines and recognize the addresses of the events in my calendar. It usually automatically sets the destination correctly. It's very convenient.

Hi, I love the video thanks! I just have a question, I have an 07 MDX with the entertainment package and was wondering if the dvd player and rear screen will still work with this Android Stereo?
I believe the entertainment system still works. You can double check with the seller.

Hi Vince, Thanks for this video! Do you know if this screen is capable of screen mirroring from an iPhone? either from an android app or built in to the device? can it download android apps outside of car play features?
It does not have this feature built-in. But it is an android tablet. You can install apps from Google Play. If there is an app having this feature, then you have it.

Could you also make a video showing the features of this unit? Why is it better to integrate this unit, and not just stick a simple $99 unit in front of the original screen?
Hi just a question, do you know any way to still have access to the original navigation software? I seen some people do this with the acura rl units, one person in particular was able to have a switch that went back to stock software. From what I assume I don’t think it’s actually a hard thing to do but I don’t work with too much wiring aside from computers and basic electrical work.
Just let me know! Would like to do this for my friend as well, and potentially do this on an Acura RL when i purchase one again. Appreciate your detailed video here regardless!

Hi, I purchased this after watching your video but I think they did not send the screen with the white ribbon and now they are vaguely stating that it “inside the screen.” Am I missing something or are they just giving me a run around. Can you tell me how received the white ribbon that connects to the base unit? Thanks

I’ve had an android unit in another vehicle and the main issue I had was I would have to dim the screen at night because the auto dim never worked correctly. Does this unit have working auto dim for night driving?
I never have issues with it for night driving. I always use Apple CarPlay which turns dark mode at night.

I would not say it is impossible to re-use the original backup camera. But it is difficult because you need to find/DIY a custom connector which supports the original backup camera.

2 questions, now that you removed the navi screen. How do you set the clock on the factory radio. also if you remove power to the factory radio how will you enter the anti-theft code without having the factory navi screen?
The clock on the factory radio is still wrong. I didn’t change it. This is probably one of the reasons why I installed the aftermarket CarPlay. I removed the factory Navi screen but kept the factory radio. The factory radio has the power and works well. I recall I input a code on radio screen.
Do you know if this works with the 2012 acura mdx tech package? I can't find any info on the first aliexpress link and the second aliexpress link is broken. Great video!

I just installed mine and I'm having trouble connecting my phone via blutooth. Any idea how to pair a new device? Also, having trouble getting the the android audio to play. It still is playing radio through the old radio controls and not through the android device. Any ideas? My backup camera isn't coming on either. I'm going to check the wiring again later today. Pairing Bluetooth is very straightforward. I don’t remember the exact process. Turn on the Bluetooth on your phone and go to settings on the unit. My unit does not has radio antenna so it can’t play FM. I have to use the stock FM.
Any update on backup camera?
Good job! Could you inform if steering media control buttons still work well? Can siri/google assistant be triggered by inbuilt voice control button on the steering? Could we retain the operation of all media buttons and jog dial?(i want navi on the screen if i push the button and player to come up if i push audio)?
Mode, channel + -, volume + - buttons on the steering wheel are configurable on the new unit. I use channel + - buttons to play next/pre song on my phone via Apple CarPlay. All other buttons remain unchanged and they are not connected to the new unit. The jog dial no longer works. I say Hey Siri to activate Siri on my phone, when I use Apple CarPlay.
@@VinceTechLife that's a pity, since jog dial shall work well with carplay/android auto. So navigation unit buttons seems to be left unprogrammable/not used (just not a fan of touch screens).
Do you know if the car's diagnostic information can be displayed in the new unit? I was told by the installer this was possible because of the OBD plug, but I have not yet found the app on the new unit that displays the diagnostic information .
The new unit does not display diagnostic information. It only shows which door is open.
The camera from Aliexpress link does not look like the one in the video. Did you have to buy a different camera?

Yes. The original DVD player still works. My Mdx doesn't have this package. But I know this aftermarket device is designed to work with the existing infotainment system. You can contact the seller. They will send you the right model for your package.
Can this work on the mdx without the factory navigation? Like the one with just the tiny radio at the top?
All of the product descriptions say that it does not support the unit without the navigation screen under the hood.
So, I have a tech package 2013 mdx and the Hdd just died and the screen says “hdd access error, contact dealer”. Well dealer is like 1,200 to replace oem hard drive for the stock navigation that I don’t even use. This seems like a alternative to the failed stock navigation unit. Do you have any input on if the stock broken navigation would affect this units function?
This unit does not depend on the stock unit. So I believe the broken stock unit does not affect this unit. You can double check with the seller on aliexpress. Click any link in the video description and send messages to the seller.

I don’t think it works on base model without navigation. But I may be wrong. You can ask the seller questions on AliExpress.

Do you mean the screen does not turn on? If the wide and flat screen connector is good, I suggest you contact the seller.

When you installed it did you end up having to plug into the AUX port to get sound from the head unit? A lot of these head units from Ali Express require you to use the AUX port for the sound, but I didn't see it in your installation video so I was curious
The provided harness includes the ports for AUX. See 6:13

@@jaisonb7054You are welcome. It’s an acceptable solution balancing the convenience and the complexity without losing the original functionalities. In most time, I use Apple CarPlay for navigation and music. If I really want to listen to FM, I switch from AUX to FM. CarPlay navigation still works. Just lose voice guide.
Hi Vince - Could you help!! After watching your video I purchased the same setup for my Acura MDX 2011 from the same seller. My car had the advance tech package so I had to use the TLX harness that they provided. Everything is working except for the backup camera. I've checked the wiring multiple times and I've also installed backup camera before so it's not something new. The LED lights are power by the license plate lights, and the camera is power by the reverse lights. Somehow I'm not able to see any camera image when I put my car in reverse. Infact when the car is put in reverse nothing happens to the android screen. I would still expect a blank screen if the camera is not working when the car is in reverse.
The seller said I need to connect the trigger wire (3rd cable) on the harness. I've tried that too. No reverse camera is triggered. You had mentioned in your video that had they sent your unit with the 360 camera software and that you had to update the software for the reverse camera to work. Could you please tell me how I can tell if that is the case for my unit. As of right now I can't seem to figure it out. Would you be able to provide me with the software that they sent you as Im desperate for a solution. Is there something in the setup that I missed?

If the unit is installed with 360 camera software, it will always show a 360 view (for you to check the surrounding) when you start the car engine, no matter whether there are 360 cameras installed. If there is no 360 camera installed, the 360 view is all black. I believe you don't see this 360 view. It means you have the regular system with the backup camera.
Since you have a different harness, my wiring may not be working for you. But I assume the cable at 4:11 is the same. Double check your wiring. Use a multimeter to verify the positive wire of backup camera. I installed standalone backup cameras too. I recall the standalone backup camera only needs the red wire (positive), but the backup camera for this unit needs both red wire and black wire (negative).
About 2 months ago, my unit had issues with the backup camera. When I put the car in reverse, nothing happened. Manually restarting the unit solved the issue sometimes. But later this issue disappeared. If the wiring is correct, you can try manually restarting the unit. Swipe down on the status bar at the top right of the screen.
Did you resolve your problem?
I just installed this same unit into my 2010 MDX and everything works fine except the backup camera. I have the same situation with the new camera. When I put it in reverse nothing happens on the screen. If there is a trigger wire on the harness I do not see it. Which harness was it on? I sent a message to the seller and I'm waiting to see what they say. If you all were able to fix this problem please let me know what you did.

Can this be installed in a non Navi 2011 tl I seen they have the set for it but not sure if it will work in a non Navi because the heater controls show on the factory screen?

This unit also supports the MDX model with rear DVD entertainment system. The harness is different. Contact the seller for the correct harness.

I am not sure. I believe it still works. I never succeeded in connecting Bluetooth on my 07 MDX.

No. The new unit outputs sound to the stock system via AUX. It's like you plug the external device using the AUX port in the armrest box. So all speaker functions are kept.

Do you have the ability to customize the boot logo? Rather than have the traditional Android logo, I'd like to know if Navitech will allow users to change this to an Acura logo. I've done this with my Carpuride units, so I'm just curious.
I don't recall I saw the option to replace the Android logo. As far as I know, Google requires each Android device shows Android logo when it boots up. With about 50% chance, the unit is in Sleep mode. It turns on instantly without showing Android logo. You can click any link in the video description and ask the seller.
@@VinceTechLife That certainly interesting to hear. So, you're saying that the unit won't fully power down when you turn off the vehicle and sometimes it goes into sleep mode?
Additional question, I know you mentioned that the channel +/- and volume +/- buttons work on your steering wheel, but do any of your HandsFreeLink buttons work to activate siri? Due to corporate restrictions, i cannot enable siri when my iPhone is locked, so I'd like to know if you can push any of the HFL buttons on your steering wheel to active siri?
@@wusty23jdYes. Sometimes it goes to Sleep mode. I can’t repurpose the Hands free link buttons. If your Siri is disabled on your phone, there is no way to activate it through Bluetooth device.
How long did it take before the car battery died (while the car was off)?
Probably I played with the new unit for 20 minutes. It happened again. I failed to start the engine after I traveled for a month. Most likely it's caused by the new unit. No issue if I drive a couple of time per week.
I also have installed this CarPlay device. When the car is turned off, the static current is the same as when the device is not installed, which is 25 mA
If the static current exceeds 100 milliamps when the car is idle, it's likely that your MDX has a battery drain issue, which is a common problem with Acura MDX（or other model）. The cause of the issue is that the Bluetooth module tends to drain over time, as was the case with my 2008 MDX. I didn't notice the battery drain problem before because I could use the car normally every day. After installing the CarPlay device, I wanted to test its impact on the static current and found that the static current of my MDX was 0.25 to 2 amps. Initially, I thought it was a CarPlay issue, but later, I searched online and found that the Bluetooth module drain is a common problem in Acura MDXs that have been used for some time. Removing the module eliminates the drain. The static current dropped from 0.25-2 amps to the normal value of 0.025 amps(25 mA). You can find specific solutions by searching "MDX battery drain" on TH-cam.
Still can't get audio to play through speakers. Once connected to Bluetooth do you have to turn the original car radio on? And if so do you put it on radio, aux, etc?

Yes. It is working well for me now. A couple of months ago, it had problems with backup camera. When I shifted to reverse gear, the new unit did not switch to backup camera view automatically. Restarting the unit manually solved the problem sometimes (but not always). I checked the wiring at the reverse light, but didn't see anything wrong. Luckily it disappeared after several days when I was about to contact the seller.
Hey, wazzup bro? Can you tell about hu configuration? Did you set the model of car in new head unit or something? And did it keep old diagnostic menu of mdx?
There are 2 models available in the new unit, but neither of them is MDX. I recall TLX is selected by default. I didn't change it. I don't know what old diagnostic menu of mdx is. If it shows on the original navigation screen, it no longer exists.

Im having a problem where the OBD cable is draining my car battery.
I had the similar problem. But it was not caused by OBD cable. It was caused by the unit. By default, the unit sleeps when car is off. It still consumes a little electricity. There is an option in setting. You can choose to turn the unit off completely. The downside is it takes time to boot up after you start the engine.

What about rear DVD? Stock error messages? DVD changer? Clock on audio system?
My MDX does not have rear DVD. The seller has the unit for the model with rear DVD. This unit uses AUX for speakers. The existing audio/DVD system is not impacted. Only the original navigation screen is gone.

@@vadek2005 What's the built-in diagnosis system? I don't recall I have seen it. Maybe my MDX model does not have this feature. You need to check with the seller.
Does unit have rca outputs to add an amp? And can i connect my stock back up camera to this?
It has a sub woofer output. But I didn't use it because I could only connect Front left output and Front right output to Aux input of the stock unit (so that we can keep the stock unit's all existing functions, e.g. FM, CD). The stock backup camera cannot be used for new unit.

@@vishnubrijmohan7154 All speakers work. But as I mentioned, new unit's Front left output and Front right output connect to Aux input of the stock unit (connecting all speakers). There are actually only 2 sound channels. (I do hear sound from the stock amp.)
Hi can you still see original car infortainment system through this android unit?
No. I recall the old navigation screen on my 2007 MDX does not show info other than navigation. Maybe newer model shows more info on that screen.

I have 2017 MDX and you can change the car settings in that upper monitor. So I was wonder it can show through this Android unit.
Do you see any menu that says "Original car" and underneath says "A switch to the original car interface" ? And if you do what do you see when you click it?

@@VinceTechLife Ok. I have a 2013 MDX Technology model. There are some diagnostic messages that I get through the factory system that displays through Acura's messaging app. Do you know if that function is retained if I make the upgrade? My MDX burns oil as I believe these motors are known for doing. The diagnostic messaging lets me know when to add oil so I'd like to retain it if possible. Thank you for the video.

@@VinceTechLife I just took my car in to have this stereo installed and was told that the harness provided by Navitech is not the correct one. I compared the harness I received to the one you showed in your video that you had to have returned and it matched. Do you know if the Technology edition has a unique harness? Perhaps it takes the original harness that Navitech sent you which was not compatible with your MDX. Any thoughts?

I Have Acura MDX 2018 that work for me
The factory hands-free on my 2nd Gen MDX is terrible. While this product may be a good solution, I'm skittish. I purchased an expensive touchscreen multimedia system for my E46 BMW about ten years ago. It had all the bells and whistles, but it was buggy, ran my battery down, and the quality was poor. I wouldn't want to purchase another no-name head unit unless there was a long line of satisfied users.
The factory hands free never worked on my 07 MDX. Can’t pair Bluetooth. So far this product works well.
Where are u located? If you live in texas, i can pay u to install this for me. Please advice.
