    At 1:01:15 you mentioned Vin. I usually use a 9V Battery for that. Also a combo of POT-SWITCH would work fine.

    Great tutorial! I'm trying to use both the Midi input circuit and this output circuit to reassign the cc# that each pot sends based on reading incoming cc# from a synth when a button is pressed. Any tips for how to dynamically reassign the outputs? I'm diving into your controller.h and .cpp but still a little lost. So far I've initiated a variable for the CC commands and then in the updateButtons loop am waiting for a button press then trying to read in the midi cc in and setting that as the variable for that button's cc, but I think I'm running into an error with midi hex to int translations?

    Hello Notes and Volts. Very good video and explanation. I just started building a midi controller and this helps a lot. I have now started with the potentiometers and I get an error message with programming. "Pot" does not name a type. I have downloaded the program from your website and have not adapted anything to the text yet. Have no idea what I did wrong.

    This is fxcking unreal! Thank you so much for your tutorial AND THE CODE! I just built this thing and it works! Pure Data loves it.
    Two things I got mildly stuck on that might help others to know :
    1. if the sketch won't compile if this library is missing, do a quick google, find the library on Github, google again if you don't know how to install a library in the Arduino IDE. it's as easy as installing a plug-in
    2. STOP asking if this will work with USB! You don't need it! Get a Midi to USB cable. Try ebay, I got two for $15 w/ free shipping. Plug that cable between your midi and USB holes. There, fixed.
    I don't know if anyone appreciates just how much work there is in creating this stuff. Noobs like me with some soldering skills, but zero code brain can build it simple as Lego. Thank you so much again! xx

    I have this attached to a synth and when I turn the synth on, the midi controller starts up with it - but thevalues of the pots aren't correct until I fiddle with each one of them. How can I make sure the midi controller sends all the values of each cc note it controls to my synth when it starts up? Manually calibrating things every time I start the synth up is a pain in the butt(plus I have to sacrifice all the settings I had previously due to the fiddling of knobs : (

I'm totally new to arduino, but I really want to build one because I need it for my livesetup and I dont find anything on the market what would work in my situtation.
    Btw I'm curious about can you use endless encoders too? bc in that case maybe less knob is enough.
    Really appreciate your work. If you need any help in graphic design and 3d, hit me up!
    All the best,
    Lazly B.

    I have a bunch of 5 pin jacks that looks like they would work but the angle of the pins is different, IE the middle of each hole is in the correct place but the 'lines' are rotated differently. Would that work, since the cross section of the sticky-out bits on the male side of a midi cable is just dots instead of lines?
    I find the cost of the connectors are like, a quarter of the price if you just search for the type of connector instead of just calling it a midi jack. The only issue is that you have to go through one of those electronics hobbyist sites that looks like it's designed by someone who edited the HTML in windows default notepad.

    Hello. Great video! If i wanted to use a controller just like this but to control a program on the computer (like mobius looper or Ableton live), would only the code have to change to send the midi messages through the USB? Or would I need a separate usb midi output jack.... or would it be a completely different project altogether?

    • @NotesAndVolts
      @NotesAndVolts  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Martin. The optocoupler is a protection device so it's a good idea to protect equipment from bad input signals since they are of unknown quality.

    Hey, I can get this circuit (specifically the arduino midi in/out part) to work with my midi2usb cable and every message from arduino seems ok in midiox monitor, however if I hookup any of my HW synths to the midi out, nothing comes through (listening on the right channels) and even "banana split" midi box is silent (no activity LED). Can there be a low current issue and what could be the problem? Midi cable is tested with midi controller. Arduino is connected via powered usb hub. I'm electronics noob and I have only a simple $10 V/A/ohm tester...

    • @rakajacman3106
      @rakajacman3106 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have identified the problem: I was using 3.5 mm stereo (1/8 TRS) to midi converter. I suppose it was sucking the juice out of Tx or something (I'm not an electrician), just barely enough for MIDI2USB cable to read it and hardware synths to not... As soon as I installed normal din5 directly to Tx out, the synths began working.

      Eliminated "Controller.ccp" from library foldor and uploaded right. Only thing is i can´t read midi messages from Midi-Ox. Wiring is the same as video. Using Behringer UR22 Audio Interface.

      Hi Ted. The Mini doesn't have USB on board so you need an external device to program it.

      Hi Louise. I used the TH-cam editor to trim the start of the stream when I uploaded it. This recently messed up a lot of my old videos. I have removed the edits but it will take a few days for TH-cam to process. It should work then.

    Well, I'm incredibly disappointed here.I've been watching this video for a while, and now that I've built my controller and am read to program my arduino, I download the software and see that it's missing about 90% of the code he's modifying. It doesn't #include the MIDI library, so there is clearly NO way it will work even IF it compiles. It's the right version compared to what he SAYS it is in the video, but it's CLEARLY NOT. It doesn't even mention Nuts&Volts or who wrote the 'ware. I guess I can freeze the screen and type it in from there, but that seems pretty hit and miss if I don't see the whole program during that effort. I have downloaded the code from both the pots and the multiplexer pages and it's the EXACT same. Essentially useless to me. This is INCREDIBLY disappointing. Guess I'm looking elsewhere for my project's completion. Thanks for nothin'.

      hi will, have you finished your project yet? there is a link on his site to the midi libraries... github.com/FortySevenEffects/arduino_midi_library or include it in the arduino library manager
