    I can relate to your stress and remount issue. I fell off in a really sharky spot and felt like bait as I made stuff-up after stuff-up rather than remaining calm.

      Yep, I think for most of us, just the ideas of being off ski in deep water is highly intimidating.

    As always huge thanks for the content - inspirational on many levels. a couple of requests, show the remounts! After suffering an horrendous mutli remount situation in the ocean off Queensland. AUS any filmed efforts of real world high stress remounts can help anyone learn and do it better! bugger any embarrassment, Most instructional remount videos are in flat tropical water performed by elite athletes with no wind. Also the Carbonology Boost? a very popular ocean ski on the Gold coast so your thoughts on how it affected your remount and general handling of the situation can help choose a new ski, particularly for those transitioning from flat water to ocean paddling and trying to buy the best boat for their particular ability and usage, once again cheers for your efforts to present awesome professional content on such a regular basis. Thank you

      Thank you Wayne. Firstly, have you seen this video (which is of my highest stress remount ever, other than when I was rescued in 40kts and the gopro was not on !):
      th-cam.com/video/rSbYwIK46FM/w-d-xo.html
      Secondly, your request for the "embarrassing" footage has reminded me of my intention to do a video of the "Donald Trump" remount method (just an untested idea in my head), which I have not yet attempted. So thanks for the spur, as I will post the remount footage as part of the intro to the "Donald Trump" video (provided of course that my idea works !). I am going to be away for a while so will need at least 3 weeks before I get round to this.
      Boost: As indicated in the video, I attribute my dismal remount performance to, primarily, stress (life stress, not downwind stress). Had I have been in my Swordfish it would have been a multiple remount event for sure. But, the considerable extra stability of the Boost means that, even when I make a meal of it, I can clamber back on board quite easily. The Boost does not have the swell "penetrating" ability that the Swordy has (which I love) but overall, due to the extra stability, and the "peace of mind" (I don't waste any mental energy thinking about a swim in the Boost), my overall performance and enjoyment is better in the Boost LV.

    Crispin and I did 2 Miller's on 12th May afternoon, managed an average speed of 15.2 kph for both which is 46 minutes and some change - the runs were there to be caught, but having two of us paddling helped get the boat up to speed.
    1st rule of remounting is "don't panic"....2nd rule is "if in doubt, refer to rule 1" lol
    Glad the placebo effect of the new rudder is working though ;-)

      Agreed: some of the other experienced paddlers also said that it was a doubles day. About that downwind rudder: I now know where I am going to fit my next one......but it will not be particularly comfortable for you though 🫨

    Thanks for the update on Oscar. He's been a great inspiration to this little kiwi.

    So take heart mere mortals. As we fall in regularly our remounts become second nature.

    • @ForbesRichard
      @ForbesRichard  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That is what I thought Tom ! But clearly this brain/body needs another 100 swims or so before the remount becomes 2nd nature. In the meantime I am gonna "cheat" and short-circuit with some practice remounts.

    Rich we need another remount training session 🤣

      Hola Denis ! Flip, actually on reflection, I think the primary difference between this run and our run, is that I was relaxed and calm during our encounter, whereas on this day I really was "out of sorts" and stressed. The "state of mind" factor is huge in surfski safety ! 👊

      Denis was the perfect partner in this pickle as he too remained calm and maintained his sense of humour !
