As they should. Otherwise they would fail and serve no one. A company is only beholden to the people who own them. Work for yourself if you feel different. I have for 40 years. Ain't rich but not beholden to any one else.

Never, NEVER, ever buy a vehicle from Carvana.
I can't understand why anyone would buy a car sight unseen, but Carvana is the worst.
They have on several occasions failed to deliver vital documents to buyers, so said buyers are unable to register their cars, have no plates, and can't legally drive them.
Carvana has sold damaged vehicles, in some cases with bent frames rendering said vehicles totaled as they are unsafe to drive, without disclosing damage, even knowingly hiding, altering CarFax records.
Carvana has delivered the wrong vehicles to some buyers, has been found to be rolling back odometers, and having other major infractions.

I got a car from Carvana last year and had a great experience, far better than what I went through at a pre-owned car dealership or buying off Craigslist... They also allow 7 day no-question return if the car isn't what you wanted. Not really trying to defend any of the shitty practices they've been caught with, but you will literally find the same issues everywhere in the pre-owned car marketplace. Pick your poison I guess.

Hell i won't buy from a real dealer face to face. My coworker just got "boned" on the car she bought. The transmission failed 1 week after she bought it {3600dollars later} the dealer said no we are not going to pay for it. I would have got a lawyer, no it did not qualify for lemon law though it should have. Don't trust those shady lying one step down the food chain under a lawyer nuts pieces of manure. Buy from a individual and have a mechanic check it out. 100 dollars is way better than 3600 to see if it is a rip off.

It’s the world we live. Most all public trade businesses can say “ they are about the people or “ the employees are a family” but at the end of the day they are a business and they will do what they need to in order to stay viable. Laying off sucks, been there. Just the way it is. Hope those people land on their feet a find a better paying job.

I couldn't have explain it better without having to write a book about... Well a few topics mainly businesses, of course finance and investing wisely and then of course lastly comes political decisions and choices you make. I don't mean to come across or sound cruel mean or insensitive because being laid off like Chad Baxter touches on, YEAH of course it sucks to be laid off. However and I'm not trying to fully defend Carvana, as I have no affiliation whatsoever with them but come on Mr. Sergio Silva, you were gifted as you said 23 shares...
GIFTED!!! ONCE WAS WORTH $2,300 AND CURRENTLY $900.
      BIG WHOOPIE!!!
Not only did you not pay for those shares it was a gift as you know as you stated and you're getting one month's pay without having to work! The reason why I stated political interests and stuff is cuz I'm guessing Mr Silva voted for Joe Biden and should stick with his decision and expect to receive government checks free handouts as he got not only from carvana but your current socialist administration that more than likely many you and your constituents voted for!
Big businesses/corporations don't stay afloat and make profit by continuously GIFTING !
THIS REALITY OFTEN DOESN'T SINK INTO THE AVERAGE JOE THAT HAS NEVER EVEN TRY TO START A BUSINESS.

No one gets rich by working for someone else. Too many people are out there looking for that "dream" job. If you want security it isn't out there, anywhere. If you want peace of mind start your own business. You're more likely to get rich that way. The other way is win the lottery. And even if you do start your own business there is still no security. That is just reality, not some corporate scheme or government failure.

@NomadBachelor I get what you're saying. I am on my 3rd business. The 2nd one was very successful but not a big business by far, just 8 employees. I would let the employees know when things were tight but I never told them when it was critical. It only was twice, once in 2005 and once in 2008. I borrowed, sold stuff and didn't take a salary both times to get the company through. But I was close to laying a people off. Unfortunately we only hear about the bad companies and Carvana is one of them. The thousands and thousands of companies that do the right thing never make the news.

How, that profit is made every company has their own ways and DOING MORE WITH LESS PAID HRS is possible why not? If you cant understand or rationalize that logic then thats fine. but you dont belong in business nor its affairs. With that been said, a lot of companies lose money in overstaffing and not having them do anything. So they cut those outs. No company does it personally, nor out of spite, or any illegal reason. Im not going to back up carvana, however, most people basically do this anyway.
Carvana, is actually a much better idea than a typical dealer lot.
I say this because your a bother if you wanna drive the car to much, or do this or that, or take it to ur mechanic.
I can buy a car (technically the sale is pending for 7 days, n they absolutely hold true to that time frame) take the vehicle to a detailer to have them check the paint, take it to a mechanic and have them look it over, all while not being pressed by time, 7 days is plenty of time.
They will return the vehicle. They will take care of the customer in most regards.
If i buy from a dealer, they will say everything is good. The last owner was an old guy who barely drove hard. Blah blah. N lie till they get the sale.
There used to be much better vehicles at bigger dealers n then little small shops got the left overs. Now, its all over priced. N you really need to do u due diligence as everyone is looking to rip us off.
1 thing carvana has going against it, is they do a shitty job inspecting vehicles. Not even them, but the shops they own or hire to look their vehicles over before sale n do required work, they absolutely suck. They are ripping carvana off, for a fact.
I got a vehicle that stated the air filter was changed, the vehicle was cleaned (which is actually the people's job that ships them to you (i.e. the roll back driver n in my area its a fat lazy guy who looks like hes never washed his own vehicle).
Point is, the fact that i got a vehicle and i was able to tell the previous owner of it was a nasty slob, is the reason they didn't get a sale.
The vehicle needs to look like there was no prior owners

I am going to be up front, I am a used car dealer; our family has been in car business close to 100 years and I am not going to throw any stones at them. What I am going to say is that I believe they have a flawed business model, they also own Drive-Time, a huge used car operation that is mostly for credit challenged customers. The "vending machines" are cute but does nothing to add value to the end user. We have been on the same corner for thirty five years and while we sell fewer cars we have steady, multi-generational clients, we also own our own mechanical shop. I hear a lot of complaints about the "buy-back" process and how it works, if at all. The $$ they are still spending in the Orlando TV market is amazing. Used car prices are hurting everyone. Cars I bought on average of $3700. last year are costing us $5300. I admire the Garcia's they have vision and guts, the market is just working against everyone. I thank goodness that we have a service department which we do well with. If we sell 80 cars this year I will be satisfied, we are a debt free company. Debt imho is going to be the death of the "corporate" used car chain.

"... I came to carvana because I thought they were different..." It's a company. No company "cares" about you. I'm not saying companies and corporations are "bad". No, not saying that by a long shot. They have to do what they have to do to stay in business. Making you feel "special" is how they keep employees and keep them happy. They don't have to keep you happy when they fire you, so of course the experience of being laid off won't be the same experience of getting hired. With this company in particular, they simply stuck a bunch of fancy buildings onto the old platform of selling used cars. So, there's more that goes into building and maintaining those buildings than a typical dealership. Even if you order online, you're still paying for the price of those fancy vending machine style buildings they're building and everything it takes to maintain that. Add to the fact that a growing number of people aren't getting titles or tags and now, even though as fancy as they try to make themselves look, they can't hide the fact that when it comes to the basic model of selling used cars, this company is full of too many execs that have never been in the business to know what they're doing. You can't reinvent an industry if you don't know the industry. I have never purchased a vehicle from them and never will, and I can't imagine anyone dumb enough to spend extra money to support giant vending machines.

What is so hard about not selling used cars that have been reported stolen? What's so hard about delivering a vehicle without dropping it off the back of a tow vehicle or letting it roll into another parked car? With all of your fancy giant vending machines, something no one cares about, why hasn't any money gone into AT LEAST providing a system where you all can keep up with the titles so they don't get lost?

Former Carvana employee Sergio Silva thought that Carvana was "different", that "they were about the people", only to find out that the company is "corporate", "they truly don't care." It was just the same "old bull turd", gift rapped with a beautiful bow on top. This is yet one more classic demonstration of what the "Good Book" says when it states: "Man has dominated man to his detriment"-Ecclesiastes 8:9. When you put your trust in humans, even in those who are well-meaning, you will reap disappointment almost every time.
