I absolutely loved these. I was working in the used car business and drove many 1979-1985 Eldorado’s. They were so classy.

One of my favorites. My father had a 1979, 1983 touring coupe and finally 1985 convertible in tuxedo black with the oxblood red interior. Such a head turner and the steering and suspension unparalleled for the day. If well maintained, the naysaying of the HT4100 was overblown. $35,000 for a car in 1985 was big bucks. I’d love to find that one again.

As always I lo e the old Cadillacs. Hard to believe 80s models are now classics. Interesting on the memory seats, I didn't think they were a thing as early as 85. Interesting back story too! Appreciate you giving time on the video for the organ transplant, it means a lot to many folks.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but this car is missing (2) options that i verified on his windows sticker, RPO sticker in the trunk and when Lou panned through the interior. The (1) option that is missing is the Auto dimming headlights that automatically turn the high beams off when it senses an incoming car. As you can see from the above referenced material, he has the Twilight sentinel option which will turn the lights on and off when it gets dark or light and keep the lights on after you shut the car down for a certain amount of time. But if you look at the video when Lou shows the light switch, it's missing the left control to turn on the Auto dimming headlights on and off. Twilight sentinal on the right, auto dimming on the left. This car only has the right control for Twilight sentinal. Auto dimming headlights is RPO code T80. The (2) second option it's missing is the automatic day/night rear view mirror. The automatic day/night rear view mirror has buttons on the bottom of the mirror to operate it. As you can see during Lou's interior video shots, the mirror in this car has NO buttons. It's also NOT listed on the windows sticker or RPO codes. RPO code D43. Also missing from both the window sticker and RPO sticker in the trunk.

Lou love her. I had a 75 convo. not Biarritz, 79 Coupe, 84 Coupe and finally an 85 Biarritz convo. Same color as his. God I loved that car. Eldorado cost more than a Fleetwood. The 85 Convertibles sold for around 30k. Ton of money for a Caddy at that time. American Sunroof converted hard tops to convos.

She's beautiful Lou. Never owned a Cadillac, but one day maybe a '75 Eldorado. Took me over 30 years to track down and didn't know it at the time, my '76 Plymouth Duster; now mechanically restored, someday I'll have her repainted to the original red. When I bought this Duster in 2015, I'd given up on finding my old car. A week ago found an old registration from 1979; knocked me out that I'd re-purchased my long ago baby. Her name is Boudica, after the Celtic Warrior Queen Boudica.

Wow!! What a blast from the past. My folks bought a Cadillac nearly like this. It was a 1984 Seville in Greyfern. Had grey leather interior and every option as this one has except memory seat. It also had the handling suspension. Other than that, it was just like this.

Nice car & I love the back story on it. Growing up as a kid, my neighbor had an Eldorado, & another neighbor had a Seville. They would argue all day & night about which model was superior. The other neighbors (& probably their wives) hated it, but I loved hearing every minute of it!

I believe the Seville was viewed and marketed by Cadillac as their top of the line flagship model. The Eldorado Biarittz and the Seville Elegante were so beautiful it almost made you forget about the Fleetwood on the Deville platform.

I turned 16 in fall of 93. There where 2 his & hers of these Biarritz' for sale individually in the neighbors front yard down the block. Affordable ($3750). Begged my folks. Ended up with their low miles 87 Honda Accord with pop up headlights for $1500. Pissed me off, but it was the right move, zero maintenance. Had $ leftover for rims and sounds.

I had one and had to rebuild the motor because of an internal oil/coolant leak. These are aluminum blocks and intake manifold with cast iron heads. The blocks are sleeved so I highly doubt this guy bored it out. Once you screw with the sleeve seals, it's toast.

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Jose Duran Jr, Here is Matt's answer "Their conversion cannot be made you can however rebuild that 4100 and have a board out the 4500 harm and you must do it before you have a problem with the heads otherwise the engine is trash it’s well worth th The 4500 is you know it now is a transverse engine and the 4100 that you have is forward facing so the swap can’t be done you may also consider the Buick I believe it’s the 350 from the 1979 Buick‘s they both up and I think there’s a V-6 option to somewhere but most people want to keep the Cadillacs all Canlite good luck e cost of re-building that motor to the new standard is these cars really are very nice." Hope this helps, Lou

With a couple of exceptions like the moon roof and a slight color variation mines more maroon. I have the same car bought it after my father in law passed. My mother in law wanted it to stay in the family, so I bought it for 1800.00. Slow as a boat and needs a little sprucing up but other than that it's a good car.

    • @AdventuresWithMe00

The 4.1 liter V-8 Cadillac used in the FWD cars of that era was rushed into production in 1981 to meet upcoming MPG standards. It was an aluminum block with cast iron heads. It was prone to failure of the intake manifold gasket due to scrubbing of the bi-metal interface, aluminum oil pump failure, cam bearing displacement, weak aluminum block castings and bolts pulling the aluminum threads from the block. Lots of warranty claims. Plus the engines were really too small to move all that mass. The failure of this engine really hurt Cadillac's reputation (the V-8-6-4 and Olds Diesels didn't help either).

...only in Chicagoland, home of Al Capone, could you find a stellar Eldo owned by a mob bag man who went to the big house at Joliet....un-freaking believable...

Beautiful car! But aren't these those odd years with weak V8s?

Hi 1alkane, I believe you're correct, the 1980's might not have been Cadillac's best engines. Not sure any American car manufacturer was leading the way engine wise as the restrictions on engines were diminishing horse power. Lou

Best designed Eldorado ever (my opinion), but terrible decision to change the engine from 1981 through 1985 ! The HT 4100 is under-powered for a car as heavy as these particular Caddy's are. First 2 years, 1979-80 had a 350 Olds cast iron block engine minus all the problems that later occurred with the aluminum block HT 4100. An "A" for design and a "D-" for the engine. Damn shame, Detroit, your GM engine team blew it big time. That's why there are so many of these beautiful cars in the graveyard.
