I hope it is helpful :) the worst about imposter syndrome is sometimes you think it's over and then it creeps back in, in other areas of your life and you don't notice it

Thank you very much for the video! When you read 'the man in the arena' it touched me deeply. Due a poor basic education, I am always trying to push myself for situations out of my comfort zone and sometimes the impostor feeling strikes me really hard. Your video was really helpful and came in a good moment :)

I was taking microbiology as a pre-requisote for physician assistant school. The professor asked if I wanted to work in the lab...I said yes because research would look great. Then he encouraged me to apply because he would sponsor me and the university waivered my tuition. I accepted and now I am starting the PhD program...I'm trying my hardest to understand the literature and even basic principles and I feel overwhelmed and depressed. I truly want to learn this and contribute to the world but I also want to become a physician assistant. I don't know what to do.

Take it one step at a time. One concept at a time, one technique at at a time. Figure out what you're not good at, and then spend time improving at that, until it's not the thing you're worst at, anymore. Then, take another small bite, and get good at that one small thing.
Every grad student, every scientist has felt exactly the same as you do. The despair you are feeling is normal, and that doesn't make it easier, but just know that everybody who has to deal with like 200+ years of scientific knowledge and technique feels the same way. Your job is not to master all or any of it -- your job is to learn and contribute what you can, when you can.
As a scientist, your job is to show up to work every day and fail, again and again. Your job is to not know, and your job is to feel lost. It's okay to feel this way. It will make you a better scientist, compared to people who think they've figured it all out.
      You're going to be fine.
