    The Black Forest Trail is special to me as it was one of my first backpacking trips and I have been back quite a few times. It is beautiful but sure covers some rugged terrain. Hope you can get back to finish it sometime. The mountain laurel are spectacular when in bloom. Watch out for rattlesnakes in the summer though. Thanks for the video!

    I have spent a lot of time camping in that area, mostly a little further South in Bald Eagle State Forest, but this area looks identical. Always enjoy your videos

    Awesome adventure man. I like how you share some of your gear at the end of your backpacking trip and conduct an AAR (After Actions Review) on what went well and or failed and what you could have done better. Thank you for sharing! I like how you do your videos. Keep the adventures coming!!!

    first time checking out your content- this was a really great video, so informative. I just moved out east from the midwest and have been looking at places in PA to backpack. adding this to my list.

    Ever hear of the Laurel Highlands trail? If you travel the PA Turnpike, there is a crossing over it. Seems like a weekend adventure.

    Great video. I've done the BFT as well, it's a grind! Ever consider burning a candle lantern inside your tent? This will help considerably with the condensation. It will also warm your tent a few degrees. UCO makes a very small compact one ideal for backpacking. I hang it from the gear loft and burn one candle at night, and one in the morning. Keeps things fairly dry. Just a thought.

    Really enjoy your videos...great balance between info and entertainment. Surprised you don't have (or mention) campfires. In the winter, I really need one to deal with all that darkness. Sounds like you have a good plan for 2016, good luck with it!

    Hey man, Great Vid! I got a QUESTION though. So I did the trail back in 2012 and i was watching your vid and i saw and you said there was a bridge crossing at the beginning of trail heah in slate run (going CCW). Im going again in 2 weeks and im worried about the water levels right now but i guess that bridge is new, right? Please let me know if you had any knee deep crossing during the 42 mile trip. I really hope that bridge was a new addition to the trail, because i have always been scared of that crossing ever since my 2012.

    Great video. Really like how you do your format. What stove were you using? I been trying out a MSR pocket rocket but cold weather really effects the performance even when I keep it with me in the hammock all night.

      +Pumpkin Village Maple This is pretty much my system (see link). It works ok down to around 20 if I'm just using it for warming up meals. If its colder than that then I'm not back packing but base camping and use the Primus Omnilite TI. Thanks for watching.

    Ironically enough I was just up there this past weekend. I spent some time just playing on a few sections of the BFT and the WRT while staying at the Hotel Manor, just past the bridge you crossed. The BFT is known as the hardest hike in PA. It's a rough one! On a side note, do you have a Pro 4x Titan? How do you like it?

  • @OntarioOutdoors
    @OntarioOutdoors 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey kyle, I see pretty much on every one of your trips you use tents, which is great. Just curious if you have ever used a hammock sleep system? My fiance has decided she wants to start coming out on backpacking trips, any suggestions for a lightweight 2 person tent to bring along a backpack trip?
    All the best from Ontario, Canada

    • @BurleyOutdoors
      @BurleyOutdoors  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +OntarioOutdoors Good questions. I used a hammock for a whole year to test it out. They work alright but I tend to sleep better in a tent. I could never get quite 100% situated in a hammock. I know many though that swear by them. I have a video on my channel from a few years ago that goes over my set up. As for tents check out the link below. If I was looking for a 2 person tent I would highly recommend looking into Hilleberg. The Anjan is a popular 2 person model. You can find lighter tents and cheaper tents. But from what I have seen and used Hilleberg seems to have a really good balance between weight, easy of use, and durability. When I buy a piece of gear weight is one thing I look at but mainly I want it to just work no question any where anytime. Some of the lightest options on the market can get delicate and fiddle. Just my thoughts. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @OntarioOutdoors
      @OntarioOutdoors 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Burley Outdoors That is great, I appreciate the advice. I plan on looking into the hilleberg. I agree the weight definitely is a deciding factor but when it comes down to it i don't want it to rip or tear on my first trip with a new tent, i think my biggest obstacle will be finding a tent i can lay in, seeing as im 6'9 that may limit me lol

    I plan on doing the north loop in 2 days one night this month; where do you think the best place would be to camp, right in the middle? Or should one day be shorter/longer than the other to score a good spot? Just trying to figure out schedule...thanks.

    • @BurleyOutdoors
      @BurleyOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can't really remember the whole map as it has been a few years since I did this trail. You can't really go wrong starting at any place on this loop. The stream I camped at on the second night I would have at least one of my days end there. Try to stick to planning on camping near the larger streams. There was plenty of water in the winter. Not sure what it would be like this time of year. I wish I could be of more help but its been a while since I did this one.
