    Thank you very much for the video tutorial, I've bought the TR-8 recently and I'm producing my tracks with it. I've learned some tips with this video that I didn't know how to do. And it is fantastic. Thanks a lot!!

    I bought this product on launch day and have not used it because of all the menu based settings. I'm old school and use all external gear (no computers) because I like to tweak with knobs and such. After watching this video, I feel less intimidated with the tr8. Your explanation of the basic settings really were easy for my limited brain to pick up. I feel empowered now. This is simple, easy to remember, and is one of the the better reviews on this item. Bravo and Cheers mate!

    Well I thought it was a great video, and considering most of my mates roll their eyes when I even bring up the subject of making trance techno tracks and, gasp, playing live at the local boozer/disco in Brâlia, Romania, I need all the help I can get. The TR-8 is a great machine but fucking complicated too. Keep it up Barney.

    Thumbs up! Roland should pay you for such a good and clear explanation of the TR8! Thank you very much. The first thing that annoyed me was the need of sunglasses for the bright light of the knobs. The second was that screen saver. Spot on, really a good explanation where to start with the TR8. Rolands way to huge, one page manual, with too small text size can go to the waste bin... :-)

    So.....that external in feature seems like the magic sauce that actually takes the TR8 closer to the TR8S territory than you'd think.....ok so you can't load samples on the TR8 by way of a memory card, but you can probably do better by connecting a synth to the external in and probably get similar results. I'm no expert and have only recently bought my first synth, a Modal Electronics Cobalt 8, and bought a TR8 last week for £230, which is my first ever drum machine. Those 2 things should be more than capable pieces of kit....even though I don't know what I'm doing at the moment 😎👍

    • @micy80
      @micy80 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sticked an Elektron Samples to the external in and they sound great together. Opens up the possibilities indeed.

    Great video. I was wondering if there's a way to sync the delay time to a specific time divisions, rather then free balling tempo with the timing knob?
    If you're familiar at all with the volca beats, there's a hidden feature where you can hold the function button and turn the stutter's time knob to sync up to specific time divisions.

    • @AnonymousAnimal2

      Ah that's really too bad. Maybe if enough people ask for it, Roland will patch it in a firmware update. That was one of my favorite functions on the volca beats.

    hey great vid! theres a setting I turned on and cant recall where it is now ..theres a setting where you can kinda mess with the internal 'clock' or 'feel ' of the TR. It allows you to turn on or off the TR8 original 'feel". Because the original TR had a bit of 'wobble' in its resolution or clock to give it a bit of loose feeling theres a feature to 'tighten" it up. It makes the resolution more up and down. I turned it on to do some recording using the DAW but cant remember how to turn it off!!! Any ideas??? thanks man .

  • @cristoffmusic
    @cristoffmusic 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video man, really useful!
    How do you have it so that the reverb or delay is only effecting one sound? When you put the reverb on the clap sound how is it not also effecting the kick drum on that note?

    • @mrbreaker101
      @mrbreaker101 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      easily done, press kit, then press and hold either effect. All the drums light up to show the effect is applied to them. Press each one to disable reverb/delay being applied to that drum sound
      so with just the kick lit up when you hold down reverb, reverb will only be applied to the kick, etc

  • @xxkillshot5xx

    So I know you made this a few years back but I'm hoping you could answer a question for me. You can select your kits, and that changes the sounds of the particular instruments. But if you select a kit, and then start changing one of the knobs (let's say delay) would that change the whole sound to what you have live? I don't know if that makes sense. I don't own one of these otherwise I would just try it myself. Would you recommend this for someone who has no DAW or any instruments? I want to get into music making but I don't really want to get a DAW.

    great review. I would like to know if there is something similar to the maschine from Native Instruments or push from ableton where you can just keep the bouton pushed and makes some fills with no need to write it on the pattern?

    • @AnonymousAnimal2
      @AnonymousAnimal2  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucas Knauerhase the Scatter knob does that sort of, otherwise you would have to write a 'fill' pattern and use the pattern selection to jump back and forth

    • @LousyFacelift
      @LousyFacelift 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lucas Knauerhase There is a roll function just like the note repeat in other instruments like the MPC and such but only for realtime use. When in InstPlay mode hold down one or more step keys 12-15 labelled "Roll" and press any instrument key to get variations. The more roll keys you hold the faster the notes.

    This video is great, makes me excited to get my hands on one of these.
    I'm picking up a TR-8 pretty soon, however this is my first piece of equipment and I'm wondering what a good sound system would be for personal use. I have a technics receiver and phisher speakers that I use to listen to music but I'm not sure if that'll do.
    I play trap set regularly and I'm familiar using amps and mixers but have never owned one myself. Any advice?

    good review mate. just a little gutted that u have less control over the fx than the electribe. I loved the fact that on the esx2 uncut make some proper funky trippy delay sounds. I've order the try sonic hoping this might be more possible with that. but yeah tr8 sound quality is instantly brilliant.
    Nice one
