Just add the car in your FCP profile, then add all the parts you need to rebuild that car in your cart and look at the rebuild cost... that should answer your question lol
Respect for this guy as he is way smarter than the average car youtuber! I enjoy learning from how you walk through solving problems even if some are your mistakes. We all make these mistakes.
Ohhhh boy😂 the flex plate realization was too real. Similar issue myself, got new motor running and rear main gave when bleeding coolant. Gotta love cars!
Awesome stuff man. Watched the whole video start to finish, love that you keep the mistakes in the video. Great to learn from. Crushing it with unique, informational and entertaining videos.
You are an animal! Congratulations and that was a joy to watch. Your determination and love for these cars is inspiring. E31 is my dream car, But at least I got a m60b40/6. Such an amazing engine.. enjoy my friend. You deserve it and earned it. Take Care my friend!
Hello & welcome to Timm’s BEEEEMW repairs and information 😂😂 That guy has some good content I came across when re-gasketing my m60 - where you came across the tech w/ the added washer on the VC grommets for a better seal (in conjunction with old VC gaskets)- Very interesting his in-depth video (and forum posts) discussing the ~55mph shimmy on e31/e32/e34 can ALSO be contributed by under inflated front tires - the solution is to inflate to ~42psi or so
Nice work Josh. We all make mistakes and for some reason E31’s seem to like to be difficult to work on. Have been working on my neighbors 850i on my channel and it nearly broke me. Now the trans has shit the bed - no reverse. So that’s gonna be fun. I was bidding on a manual 850i last week. Kinda glad I didn’t win. Sold for $4250 (plus 13% buyer fee) no title no keys. Looked like it needed a lot of work so I bowed out after a long bidding war. Keep up the awesome content!
hope the joy of driving it ends up more than worth the wor! great video, i just replaced my pcv valve i wish i had seen this video before i did to install that catch can. when i saw the function of the valve and how gunked up it was when i pulled it off i was amazed. that terrible sound you were getting where it sounded like an alien robot was the exact same sound i had on mine prior to taking it in for a pcv replacement
I did the exact same thing when timing my m62, the crank was at tdc, but the cam numbers weren't showing, luckily I noticed. It's expensive, but I. The future is also recommend German auto solutions timing kit.
good video. great content. good to see you wrenching again. gotta order the CHF online only; if you buy it in the store, its 3x the price. I have a slow leak on mine, been buying it for a couple years now (SUPERcheap online). great practice with the flywheel; v8 might be better with an automatic anyway. great diagnostics, this is your element, man. don't get frustrated; it's not the car, you're a little rusty.
Amazing! I just came across this project after rebuilding my M62TUB46. I wish i could install a double chain and rid myself of plastic timing guides! Was this setup ever dynoed?
Building an M62TU as we speak for 2000 540i 6 speed in my garage in Gurnee. Was going to keep all the 62TU components and do M60 intake manifold, big bore TB & 4 inch maf, but after watching your build series I really wanna copy what you did since it takes the best of both worlds. I have 3 m62tu’s but no m60s lol do you know where I could get one locally around Chicagoland I can’t find anything
I have the exact same ebay catch can on my turbo 325i. I actually like the design and overall built quality of it a lot and it didn't cost much. But the inlets are way too small for a catch can imo
Since you’re upgrading the compression 11 to 1. Is there a tune needed for the computer to know the proper air fuel mixture. Or will it learn as it drives.
Between you and M539 Restorations, it's making me want a BMW money pit of my own and I don't know how to escape this feeling lmao
Don’t, embrace the feeling 🤣
Just add the car in your FCP profile, then add all the parts you need to rebuild that car in your cart and look at the rebuild cost... that should answer your question lol
HAHAHAHHA do as the great REO Speedwagon song “can’t fight this feeling” says and stop fighting it! Just do!! LOL
As a all lifetime BMW owner - I give you honest advise. Buy Jaguar. XJ 350. XJR. As I did. BMW now looks like 3 time cheaper car to afford.
On a scale of 1 to 10 of if you should. = -.7 ..... As a multiple bmw owner. I'm telling you to just smoke meth instead

It’s a lot of work for one guy
it's very good that this guy also shows his mistakes. That way we know what we should look out for when rebuilding these engines.
@@dokterkarel mistakes are important!

Beautiful video Josh. Had me dying with some laughter when you found out what that silly annoying noise was from the PCV😂😂
I was expecting the worst 😂😂😂 thank you Joe!
This guy is not afraid to dig into any BMW project 😅
Respect
NO SIR! I do em all. Except post 2006, those I am afraid of😅
Nice job, a real learning experience. :)
Fabulous work! Amazing content thank you for sharing 👍🏽
Thank you!
Those cars look gorgeous in white.
Agreeed!

The absolute worst dude😩
Congrats on getting your first newborn running in the new shop. Doing great Josh, keep it up!!!
Thank you man!!! You’re right! This is my first creation to be made in the shop!!!
Great job! Now you have one more thing to do. The M60B44 requests, or I should say demands a 6 speed 420G. Go for it!
Ughhh you’re so right😩😩😩
Awesome stuff man. Watched the whole video start to finish, love that you keep the mistakes in the video. Great to learn from. Crushing it with unique, informational and entertaining videos.
Thank you Nick!!! I prefer for people to learn with me and see the reality of these jobs rather than cutting it out to make myself look better! Lol
Mad respect. Keep up the good work. U and M539 2 best bmw channels.

Oh dude, your E9 is SO gorgeous. An E9 is gonna be my next nightmare, I mean project.
HAHAHAH my next nightmare too😉
Great work! Educational! Love the E31!
Thank you!!!
Kudos, brother! Loved watching the whole build process. Glad I'm not the only one struggling with the M60 ;)
Thanks man!! M60s are a pain! Haha
Nicely done bro. Cant wait to see how it runs.
Thank you!!!
Great series on this rebuild! Alot of thorough work! Makes me want to find an e31, hopefully 850i to experience the complicated m70.lol
Thank you Chris!! Good luck with the search!
All lovers of older bmws love this car!! If you know you know the F1 of the sharks!! Worth all the blood and tears!!
Such an awesome looking car!
Jeez...And I thought the timing chain guides was a tough job on my 540i. Good job bud!

Aghh bad transmission, sounds painful. Definitely tricky to work on!! Thats for sure!
I run that catch can! Works nice!! S50 e30 87 vert with hard top, roll bar coming this spring!!!
Nice man! Glad to hear that!
yeah you could hear the "gallop" when it was turning over with the cam timing off and there was lack of compression on some cylinders.
Yeah once i cranked it with timing correct I could hear the difference!
hope the joy of driving it ends up more than worth the wor! great video, i just replaced my pcv valve i wish i had seen this video before i did to install that catch can. when i saw the function of the valve and how gunked up it was when i pulled it off i was amazed. that terrible sound you were getting where it sounded like an alien robot was the exact same sound i had on mine prior to taking it in for a pcv replacement
The valve still stays in place back there even with catch can so you could always add it!
I'm doing the same car and definitely I learn some things from this video , thanks well done and wish me lock.

Next time prime your engine with the new oil. Remove fuel pump fuse and crank a few times. Then re-install fuse and crank.

A tune is recommended but no real risk without. Its not that different

No video is as accurate as this when it comes to expressing the anxiety of starting up a fresh swap or rebuild LOL.

Would that catch can bypass work on the M62TU? It should be same mechanical principle?
@@idle_about yup same thing
gotta love frankenmotors
True that😂
No need to chip the ecu ? It works with the old tune for the 4 liters ?
Yessir, already have a dinan chip. Is the tune optimized for this setup? No. Did I forget to order a chip so this will do for now? Yes
Any plans on a q & a or live chat or something? That would be cool but you are prob mad busy.
Id like to but like you said right now im a little busy hahaha
Is the oil pump and pcv behind the timing cover m62 or m60? Thank!

YESSSSIRRRR!
Most people who do this often remove their front clip (bumper, radiator and everything in between engine and license plate)
Almost did that then didn’t want to add the labor!
@m3nameisjosh Are E31's steering box like E34's?
Yes they are
They are different. Similar, but the 840ci box is unique to the chasis
