Being fairly new to fighting games (I've been playing for almost 4 months) these videos have been a TREMENDOUS help to me. Thanks to you I've been able to get a grasp on the mechanics of combos in this game. It's great how well you break down these trials and explain them.
Would give this video a like every day if I could. Thanks to you I now finally understand the input shortcuts and charge mechanics in this game. Finished challenges 6 and 7. Almost there! Hope you make guides for KOF XV, too! Praying the trials are as cool as the ones in XIII. 🙏🏻 Keep up the good work!
Thanks! Still toiling away on trial 8. I can do all parts pretty well, but always end up choking somewhere when doing the whole thing 😅 One thing I wanted to ask you though: I’ve tried doing your way of canceling the moon slasher (ch 1-9 hp hk), because it’s super fast. But sometimes (I’d say 20% of the time) Leona ends up doing the projectile energy ball thing. And I’m sure I’m not pressing forward or anything. I wonder if it has something to do with my stick and the octogonal gate? So I end up practicing with ch.1-7-6 hp-hk. It works 100% of the time, but I find it rather awkward to do in quick succession, hence my fails. Any thoughts on why she throws the projectile? I sometimes do the canceling with ch1-7-9 hp-hk and again sometimes the projectile comes out. I’ll keep pushing 💪🏻
@@leverk85 you should ditch the octo gate. square gate is the only way to go. (especially for charge characters).the octo gate must be inadvertently activating the wrong microswitch(in this case forward) somewhere along the way. trust me, the tiny benefits you'd get in ease of execution with an octo gate are not worth what you lose in precision . get a square gate
bro, I followed your advice and got myself a square gate. After a couple of sessions getting used to it, I decided to go back to the trials and.. I nailed it! It was surreal, my hands just started doing it all on their own. Muscle memory is truly amazing... this game is just so satisfying to play. I absolutely love how it rewards dedication and skill. Only two more trials to go! Thanks a lot for replying to my comments on this video. Even after 6 years, your guide is still as relevant as ever!
@@leverk85 im really glad to hear ! glad i could help. keep it goin, youre almost there (if you get stuck on anything else, feel free to ask) and good luck
Leona was the first character that caught my attention in character select and even though I'm new I still want to stick with her. Thanks a lot for the tips!
Late in 2019 but if someone is playing with a keyboard i have something to add. When you go up & up forward you gonna get an auto drive cancel with the other P/HP special move. So you gonna go like from down &down back to up+P/HP to forward+K/HK. You gotta do them so fast but they will save you from the other back to forward P/HP Special.
so its like (hold)1 -> 9 + LP -> 6 + LK? im not playing with a keyboard but im getting the same problem, whenever i do this drive cancel she does the energy ball and not the slash =/
6:14 this method is awesome. But with me she, always ended UP doing the baltic launcher (the charge back front punch move). What do u think that i doing wrong?
oh, yeah youre lingering on uf, thats the problem. dont do ch.db xx uf+p~k.instead do ch.db xx uf,p~k. do them in sequence. uf, super slight pause, p~k(and dont linger on uf. once its activated release to neutral immediately )
Wondering if its possible to do the whole of trial 8 with the second technique for the charge cancel instead of the plink. I've managed the first two juggles that way but after i hit the ex move the followup doesn't connect in the corner. Might just be that i need a delay but also may be that the second method eventually screws up the juggles because its slower or something. Don't know. But it certainly makes the down heavy into charge move easier to time and also i don't get the stupid baltic launcher move by accident half the time.
I hate charge moves in fighting games but the problem is i always like a character and when i learn the moves they have lots of charge moves in them. Chun li from Street fighter Leona from KOF Kim from KOF even though kim doesn't have much charges but that one is an important move
Great video man ! I spent hours and hours on trial n5 and still can't do it... I have no problems doing HK charge up cancel charge forward but the super attack never comes out. Even if I try doing just charge forward super cancel I do it like once in 20 tries, I can't feel when to cancel. I know it doesn't really mean anything, but I finished every SF4 trial twice so i'm used to shortcuts, double tap etc Do i need to press every directions or is there a little leniency on the inputs ? ( like 624 are the most important).
+BananaPancake hmm....theres a huge window of opportunity to input the super after the f+hk charge so that shouldnt be an issue....are you sure youre not doing the super too early?after you release the charge you start the qcb-hcf motion and then press K AFTER the grand saber makes contact...not the exact instant but a few frames later
whenever i do this drive cancel the game uses her energy ball special instead, i thought could a negative edge problem so i start to hold LP and then pressing LK but i still get the energy ball, charge moves are difficulty but im getting the drive cancel so i guess im doing it right, is just the bottoun coming out wrong and i dont know why!
You kept saying crouching light punch for trial three and even showed it as a crouch when you slowed yourself down physically, but the slowed footage shows that your inputs aren’t for a crouching LP and the actual character model does a neutral LP in between the kicks and the ex charge
its ambiguous, but this is the best way to explain it. the microswitch for a down charge stops being active the millisecond you stop applying pressure .meaning before the joystick reaches the PHYSICAL neutral state(visually). thats way too fast for human reaction time. and the charge from down to up needs to happen instantly (so you dont have time to consciously input a standing LP while traveling from down to up. so you need to perceive it as a crLP. dont look at what the animation of the character is doing look at what my hands are doing. think of it as crLK (3x) crLP the split second you start releasing the charge to UP. (if you think of it as crLK (3x) release charge to neutral, LP and then drag to uf it wont work).it will already be too late. it all happens extremely fast. you basically have to round it down to the closest denominator. it feels closer to a crLP than a neutral LP. so thats what you have to aim for (feel wise). since there isnt enough time to consciously evaluate the situation
@@ShortFuseFighting the timings in this game are just super weird for me. I’m struggling to link Claw Iori’s LP to HP or HP to fHP (can’t remember, not looking at it, but it’s like the very first trial for him) I’ll have to give Leona another go, but I’m also keeping in mind that this game is different from every other fighter I’ve played in regards to timings and how combos should work, and I’ve also only used a charge character one time for a few minutes in SFV. My plan was to learn Iori and Mai as well as Leona, because I’ve heard those two are okay to start with, but I’m just floored about my current inability to get through the first Claw Iori trial Edit: maybe Duo Lon, too. I need to check recommended positions for each character and test them out to see what I should go with, but I am fairly determined to learn Leona just due to aesthetic bias
