Metal IS the classical music of today. The majesty of Hallowed Be Thy Name is a metal classic, possibly in the top 15 metal songs.I was born in 70 and i hit the teenage years with this music as the soundtrack to my life. I picked up guitar at 12 and taught myself how to play with the metal from this era and i think it gave me the best guitar playing to aspire to that there possibly could be. I ate, drank, breathed, slept, and smoked metal. I wouldnt trade those times, and especially that music to learn from. It makes me feel like i was a kid hearing this for the first time watching her first time reactions.

But the astounding thing is here's a band that's had TWO amazing drummers who's contributions both undeniably & beautifully complimented the Maiden sound. Regardless of whichever is someone's personal favorite. They both are legends & Maiden wouldn't be what they've become without them both.

I love how Kel added "yet" after Rich said they weren't Iron Maiden fans. I'm loving the optimism & openness. Kel & Rich, please include more of your backgrounds in the "about" section of your channel, at least what each of your favorite musicians have been & what has made you want to investigate heavier rock & metal at this point in time. Lastly, I like how you can get specific when explaining what you like or don't. That's not always so easy to do when one isn't musically literate like myself. It's nice to see your expertise.

I was also trained classically as a child, playing the violin in an orchestra but in my late teens I got into Iron Maiden in particular because it was like classic music or even opera on steroids. You can hear and appreciate the immaculate timing, musicianship and skill of the instrumentalists and Bruce’s incredible vocal talents. I ended up playing bass guitar and singing in a metal band that did Iron Maiden and Judas Priest covers so it’s great to hear you guys understanding the whole classic/metal connection.

If y'all want to literally have your jaws hit the floor check out Andy James. Thank me later. And Kel... Track down Je tamine by JOE STUMP. It is one of the most amazing "neoclassical” instrumental pieces I've ever heard. I have thousands of songs by hundreds of guitarists of all genres but the 5 artists I just mentioned are MUST listens. Y'all can thank me later. Oh for shits and giggles Tony MacAlpine is also a clasically trained pianist. Becker was on his way to super stardom before he was diagnosed with ALS at 20. He's almost 50 now and can only communicate with his eyes yet he STILL composes incredible compositions. All of these guys are clearly "metal" guitarists but omg. Then when I was a younger woman and not living at home with the parents those around me pissed all over this kind of music. It wasn't until meeting Rich and confessing my inner love of metal and progressive that he started slowly introducing me to it. I LOVE IT.
And Rich unfortunately had some run in with some guys who were dicks early on as a kid who were devoted IM fans. He automatically associated being a dick with this music so he made an effort to side step it entirely. We both are making up for lost time!!!

Great reaction mates! THE album that really put Iron Maiden on the map. Bruce's voice just allowed to to go all out with all the melodies they had in mind. He has both the high notes and the raw sound, in addition to insane endurance and legendary stage presence. A very important step forwards in the nwobhv. Looks like I'll have to subscribe ;) 355.
I will say, you got an awesome lady. Kel, cheers to you! Yes, the boots look great indeed.... :) (I do hope that I'm not mistaking your names).
Btw Rich, I didn't catch the entirety of your tattoo. I assume it's הבה נקבל עלינו and then I can't see the rest. So "Let's accept upon us...", and another illusive word. Don't worry, I'll lurk your videos from now on to get upon the rest ;)
    *Suggestion section*
Btw, I'm glad to see that you offer her a good course of progression. Starting at the beginning of "meal" (More or less), or with easier bands to digest like Dream Theater. I do hope that you will both explore some of the darker genres/sub genres, which are too numerous to count. But as with most things, continuing slowly if the best strategy.
I will, however, suggest one song from my favorite band of all time, which is not too rough even for those who are just starting this journey:
    Septicflesh - Dark Art.
    th-cam.com/video/9AxCV0N35x8/w-d-xo.html
Well, I would actually suggest "Portrait of a Headless Man" from the same album (Codex Omega. 2017. Perhaps their best, although my favorite is Sumerian Daemons). But Dark Art is a song that not many pay attention to in reactions... Well, except for Drop Z Spilling the Tea (Who is an angel. Really, you guys will love her).
Plus, if looking at it without bias, in might very well be one of the greatest songs they have written. So I would suggest either Dark art or Portrait of a Headless Man. Although my favorite song, if from the time they were Septic Flesh (Before communion, which marked a new state of music after they took a break and became Septciflesh). And it is "Virtues of the Beast". Superb melody that I can never get enough of...
They play symphonic death metal, but they also have some Gothic elements, slightly akin to Therion (Especially in their first 5 albums). But the difference between them and most other bands who use "symphonic" instruments, is that Speticflesh does EVERYTHING on their own:
    1. Christos, the guitarist, studded composition. So in their albums, they play and record with a full, live orchestra and he is the one writing all of the music. So while many other bands have to rely on the orchestras to write their parts, Christos is the one behind everything.
    2. Seth, his brother and the vocalist, studied fine arts. He is creating all the albums covers and artistic designs for the band. In fact, you can order an art piece from him (For about 300$, which is nothing compared to what you receive). There are tons of huge bands who bought their albums covers from him (Moonspell, I think all their albums are featuring Seth's art lol). Looks for Spiros Antoniou
for his website, he is very creative in his works.
And his growlings, they are some of the deepest and most raw. He is a great death metal vocalist.
    3. In live shows they really give 100% to the experience itself: They play as hard as they can, Seth is repeating "My friends" and "Are you ready motherfuckers" around 80000 times each show... But the points is, that they don't just play the music. They really want the crowd to engage in everything. They come from a view that you know the music, that now you want to really connect with the band members themselves. So this is what they aim for. But nonetheless, they nails the songs.

What do you mean "That guitar"? They have THREE lead guitarists as well as Steve Harris on bass.
    And their harmonies are llegendary.
As for Bruce - simply one of the top 5 male lead vocalists in rock music. His tonal and dynamic range are awesome, his diction impeccable, and his ability to convey the emotion and theatrics of the track unrivalled. As if that wasn't enough, he holds an airline transport pilots icence, and captained their leased aircraft (a 747-400 on their most recent Book Of Souls world tour, although they used a smaller 757 leased from Bruce's then employer for their 2008 "somewhere Back In Time" tour) and regained his ATPL flight crew medical to do so, after succcessful treatment for throat cancer in 2015. He's also a world class fencer, broadcaster, brewer, and author, and runs an aviation business in Cardiff. Fronting the biggest rock band in the world isn't even his day job!
And Nicko Mcbrain is one of the greatest rock drummers in the world, reputed to have the fastest right foot of any drummer, as he eschews double pedals in favour of reserving his left foot for the high-hat.
