This song is a ride and you just have to go with it. It can have a different meaning for each person that hears it. "White lids, white opals seeing everything just a little bit too clearly." Amazing stuff. The reference to sand makes me think of "Dune" or maybe an atomic test site.

Always thought of this tune as being performed in a smokey, little basement N.Y.C. club!(the best kind!). Patti Smith is a "love it or hate it" kind of artist. I am very much on the love it side, especially this album. This is the kind of thing she does like nobody else. The spoken word poetry slam is Patti at her finest.
I don’t really love much by her but I don’t really hate anything by her, either. She had some important songs from this album that I enjoy, and some great live performances. The rest I could take or leave.
Incidentally - chronologically the first of two songs by absolutely brilliant and unique female artists about Wilhelm Reich and his son: the other is Cloudbusting by Kate Bush.

Patti Smith? Meh, she's fine. I won't turn off her music necessarily, but I much prefer the artists who inspired her. Her only really good song, in my opinion, is "Because the Night". But of course, Springsteen wrote that. And his version is better as well...
