The symphony concert is highly praised but their prime was late 80s early 90s and ealier performances of MOP like in Seattle 89 were mindblowing . That whole Seattle 89 concert is regarded as one of the best metal concerts ever really
89 in a whole was just god tier as far as performance goes. I love Seattle but mountain view imo sounded better, Lars plays just a little slower and they play damage.
LIve in Seattle 1989 is the best Master performance EVER!!! 10 min version with beautiful part from To live is to die, btw James vocal on SnM is his second best vocal ever,so clean with lots of energy
THANK YOU for doing the one of them in the pouring rain! My favorite performance of this song. =D There was a techy running around in the background making sure things aren't catching on fire.
Love the reaction dude! I was at the Manchester show, rain created such a vibe. Best perfroamnce of Mater of puppets would probably go to 1989 seattle again, they were just on another planet back then.
Having the crowd sing those parts was an old tradition, I think back in the 80s they had a live show with some serious sound problems, the crowd had to sing the whole song basically. They liked it and started letting the crowd take over big parts of the song in other live shows after that.
The late 80s to early 90s is their live prime....but their performances post-COVID have seen them hit a late prime that is better than their 2000s-2010s performances.
Yes , this is by far their best performance, and Jason left at 2000 after a live performance . And never came back . Only met them at a hotel . Once only .
My brother has a friend who is good friends with Kirk, and is one of the members of Death Angel, and they relayed a story to my brother from Kirk that the band was back stage and looked out, saw all the people in the rain, and James said "They're gonna sit out there in that, we're gonna play for them" and went on to rock the shit out of that place for the next 2+ hours. *Edit* Yeah, ok, Seattle '89 is the best version. Cannot disagree with the other commenters there.
19:07 - I love how James messed up the final riff, then after the end of the song did the riff solo and said, there I got it right! When they did this NOBODY in any music genre were doing the collab with a symphony orchestra thing, Metallica were of course ridiculed for it, then a few years later hip hop and other genres started doing it...lol I think the Seattle 1989 version was the second best live version. The best version live of this song was in 1986 just a few weeks after Cliff died! They were so angry and grieving - that concert was the fastest they have ever played, ever!!! This is that video ---->> th-cam.com/video/wiYsUXVCSqA/w-d-xo.html 4 mins 20 seconds is when Master of Puppets starts! The fastest song I have ever heard them play is on this video, Fight fire with fire at 1 hour 21 mins, it is much faster BPM than Dyers Eve off Justice for all album, which is known as their fastest song...lol
I’m sure that I’ve listened more then 2000 times to this song but they best definitely were the best in 87 Gothenburg. between master and justice was peak hetfield he never sounded better metallica was definitely the fastest and tightest between 83-89 Canada live 1986 was the fastest but Gothenburg 87 has better sound and was almost the same bpm Even everyone says 89 was the best I understand but didn’t do the high notes anymore and it wasn’t that fast as 86/87
I saw Metallica on the Master of Puppets and And Justice for All tours. They were better back then. James would really scream and not sing like he does here plus the intensity was higher.
Neither of these are the best two performances of this song. Not even close. No Metallica performance of an older song within this century or more is the 'best' performance of their older material. They didn't get better as band. The recordings got better. They don't play better though. The 2019 choice is especially random and odd to pick. It's just because it was in the rain? Silly. Same with the orchestra. Didn't make it better.
Jason Newsted aside from Cliff Burton was one of my favorite bassists with Metallica. He had such energy and his backing vocals were incredible always (I miss Jason) 🔥 Metallica always play their songs slightly faster live, but that Manchester performance is iconic, the pouring rain and the amazing crowd, The Metallica Family always bringing it home 🤘🏻 Been lucky enough to see this band live 6 times and every time it’s been an incredible experience. LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY METALLICA 🥰
And yet Robert Trujillo been there longer then Jason. Cliff didn't really have choice. It can been difficult to hire a fan, Jason was a huge fan. So in there grief he might have said the right thing, in reality the wrong thing. 3 very different bass players, all great in there own right.
NO NO NO ... been into metallica over 30 years and anyone who has been into them as long as i have will tell you SEATTLE 89 rules hand's down... no contest.
Yeah, never understood why anyone would want to listen to a live song 30 years after. You can't beat that Puppets era live tone and lars playing on a full kit.
It is hit n miss for me sometimes I feel the orchestra is so juxtapost too what Metallica are doing it just sounds like a hot mess at times.. also great at others. Symphony 2 was much more palatable for my ears.
This guy's head would explode if he saw the Seattle 89 live version, Metallica's peak
exactly
I read that the orchestra was blown away by the crowds singing, and the applause!

TBH. The best Master of Puppets performance was in 1989 in Seattle :)
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
DAMN RIGHT
THANK YOU for doing the one of them in the pouring rain!

My two favorite performances of Master are the Manchester 2019 & Seattle 89!
Great choices. S&M performance is one of the best ever, but few people ever react to it.

I was at the 2019 concert. it was amazing :)
I mean these two are great! Seattle is the best, but the Nimes MOP is amazing
whats impressive is that the original is already a tuff, fast song to play, but live they crank the Bpm and play it even faster...incredible.

fun fact james got vocal lessons for the first time for the S&M performance
Really good reaction. :)
Awesome 😎 love Metallica my favourite band of all time
let make it clear performance in manchester in 2019 is really good but performance from srattle in 1989 is incredible :)
I like to think what it was like for the orchestra, especially with the crowd singing back lol.
If you you want some old school harsh vovals, I urge you to check out Obituary, Napalm Death, Death.
Robert Tra-he-yo. Silent "LLs".
Manchester mentioned!!!!!
: I'm from Manchester. Of course it was pissing it down with rain...🙄
Yeah late eighties early nineties was there prime in terms of live performances, but these were still good
I don't know if I'd say best, but they are up there. Manchester is definitely one of the best of the 2000s
GOAT
Toronto 1986
"singing every note of the solo" bro, you should listen to a live iron maiden then, they sing everything! trust me! ive been to a consert or 2
Unique
PANCAKES GO! R.I.P CLIFF
Neither of these 2
1989 Seattle or 92 San Diego
My personal favorite is 93 in Rotterdam
Seattle 89

Seattle 1989 and Quebec 2009 I believe were even better performances. Nothing wrong with these ones at all though
Pancakes go!
Seattle 89 reaction please
I saw Metallica on the Master of Puppets and And Justice for All tours. They were better back then. James would really scream and not sing like he does here plus the intensity was higher.
now go back to 1989 and watch performance from Seattle the best version
The best master of puppets live is Toronto 1990
Seattle 89 is the best
Aw, you were tainted with Saint Anger from the get-go..
That sucks 😢
Hope you see the difference.

Sorry but nothing top's MetallicA master of puppets live Seattle 89

Ever thought about doing a Metallica vs Megadeth video?
Why leave MetallicA 🤘 alone MetallicA don't need to be compared to Megan pooper's
