I soften old coat with Metyl Ethyl Ketone MEK, wipe it off and apply new glue on it and not compromise fabric with knife.

You would be hard pressed to use that method with a Stitts Poly Tone repair. The finish is not thick enough and does not peel off the fabric. You can lift a tape edge with a solvent.

i would worry about the cut with the knife could go wrong other wise good job
