    I like the top. The contrast looks like luxury.

    If you put the chairs back to back when painting the mesh the over spray from the front chair would get on the back chair saving some of the paint.

      You’re welcome, enjoy! I would recommend a marine grade topcoat over the stone spraypaint if you opt for that (or paint it on the underside) as it was less durable the way I did it!

    Hello! You did a great job! Bless you for having to press that little top on the can for so long. My finger would hurt. Suggestion: Walmart sells a sprayer and so do some of the big box stores, that you can put on top of the cans that still use that top. It’s about 5-7 dollars I believe. It sprays flawlessly. I just thought I would share just in case anyone else didn’t know about this fabulous finger saver. Again, great job!

    I followed your suggestions on updating my outdoor table and chairs. They came out beautiful, except the rustoleum stone accent I put on the table washed off at the first rain storm we had! It looked beautiful when I finished spraying two cans. I even put a clear top coat on, but it clearly is not an outdoor paint job 😢😢.

      Did you put primer under it?

  • @ctwmnpark5664
    @ctwmnpark5664 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice job! You mentioned the table didn't hold up. Probably because glass requires special paint due to the smooth surface. Like hand painted wine glasses - they need TLC. And paint wont like rain puddles pooling on top. either. Dont think you can scuff up tempered glass either or you risk it shattering. When our glass broke (sudden storm) my husband made a plywood top with routered edges and I handpainted faux Positano ceramic design right design on it. Marine urethane on top. Matching umbrella. Held up well.

    • @MelDidItHerself
      @MelDidItHerself  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it was! Might have to do some maneuvering and only spray a couple of pieces at a time but it worked fine for me. Just make sure it isn’t too windy of a day ☺️

  • @marykateroberts3685

    Did you use a primer on the chairs or would you suggest it? Maybe it was in the black spray paint? I have green and white striped chairs I got from my parents and I want to do this soooo bad to them but I want it to stick and work! Thank you so much for this video 😍

  • @vanesascozzarro8154
    @vanesascozzarro8154 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi! Have the chairs held up? Thinking of doing the same. I didn’t think of spraying the mesh though. Did that chip at all?

    • @MelDidItHerself
      @MelDidItHerself  ปีที่แล้ว

      Surprisingly the mesh did not! Someone had a great idea to put cardboard or something behind it when spraying to catch the overspray which is a great idea - there was some minor chipping on the frame of the chairs but only where the finish beneath had already been chippy & after it got worn for awhile 😬 so overall not a bad project to revamp them!

    • @MelDidItHerself

      I never have issues with this with the product I used, no! Just make sure to allow it to really thoroughly dry prior to use, based on what the instructions on the can say☺️

    You might want to put a polycrylic onto to keep it from chipping and to seal it.

    • @MelDidItHerself
      @MelDidItHerself  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely! I did use the clear Chalked top coat but if I were to do it again, I think I would have done a primer underneath the stone textured to really help it adhere to the glass

  • @kaye787
    @kaye787 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice job! I’ve been thinking of painting my glass table. How has it held up in the weather?

    • @MelDidItHerself
      @MelDidItHerself  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Kirby Felder thank you! So there has since been some chipping (namely when there’s water sitting on the surface & I have touched it). My recommendation would be to spray the glass entirely with the primer first then spraypaint, and perhaps use a roll on poly/top coat (oil based) to seal instead of a spray version and i think it would be far more durable :) enjoy!

    does the stone texture hurt if you accidently rub your elbows on the table ? while eating?

    • @MelDidItHerself
      @MelDidItHerself  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope not at all! You can feel that it’s a little textured but not scratchy or anything like that (especially with a good thick top coat, it smoothes it out even more!)

  • @kiashaw
    @kiashaw 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This turned out really nice, I'm thinking of spraying my chairs, have the chairs held up, are they chipping or do they look the same as when you paint it.

    • @MelDidItHerself
      @MelDidItHerself  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That’s awesome, I definitely recommend it! The chairs have held up really great (the table didn’t long term on the glass portion, but adhered well to the metal parts!). Just make sure that you choose a spraypaint that will be able to withstand the elements, but I kept my patio chairs out through a Canadian winter outside and they were completely submerged in snow and they are not affected :)

    How do I cover the mesh if I only want to paint the chair frame?

    • @MelDidItHerself
      @MelDidItHerself  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would tape the edges with Frog Tape, and then place something opaque like cardboard or craft paper or something over the mesh and then tape it down so it’s properly covered (on both sides to block the overspray from getting in there as well!)

  • @maloryfauveau-duplessy9637

    How are the chairs holding up now a year later? I have the same type of chairs with the plastic mesh for the seat and backrest, and I want to paint the mesh but my husband is worried it will flake and rub off over time.

    • @MelDidItHerself
      @MelDidItHerself  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The chairs have held up perfectly! The only thing I have noticed is there is one spot that was already peeling paint underneath and I didn’t sand it down before spray painting so in that spot it did pull on my clothes and peeled a bit but otherwise I don’t notice any issues. I have hosed them down with a good amount of pressure to remove bird 💩 too and no issues ☺️ I think the primer really helped with the adhesion!

  • @carolbrat659

    How do the chairs feels? and how are they holding up?

    • @MelDidItHerself
      @MelDidItHerself  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Carol Brat the table hasn’t held up as well but the chairs as just as good as the day I first did them! No chipping or anything and they feel just as smooth as they did prior. No black pieces falling off of the seat portion either which is great

      @@MelDidItHerself Thaaank you my dear! I'm going to do the chairs I got on clearance at NFM at the end of the season last year. ( at first I was super excited to finally have "big girl" patio chairs instead of plastic. But all winter I've been staring out the window at them thinking I'm glad I got a good deal, but hating the color more and more. This vid made me order the paint and the right tape. So thank YOU for helping to make me an owner of "big girl" patio furniture for the first time in my life at 47yrs old! Lol)

      @MelDidItHerself  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Charming, after some prolonged use unfortunately I found mine to be the same 😞 Knowing what I know now, I would recommend trying to use an oil-based polyurethane topcoat (multiple coats) over the stone spray paint to give it a more long lasting, durable finish that can better withstand the elements!
