Holy cow! That amp was the first one i ever owned. I left the military in 1994, bought a Chevy S10 truck and installed a Cobra 148GTL along with this amp. I used a 102” stainless steel whip attached to the bumper and I made SSB DX contacts all over the U.S. I miss that little amp, it got replaced by a Texas Star DX250 in 1999, I still own it and it looks brand new. The more I look at that amp I tend to believe I owned this exact amp at one time. The reason I say that is because of the oblong holes drilled into the top of the case. I bought it at a Hamfest in Maryland for $100. I could be wrong but the holes in the top of the case sure look like the ones that were in mine. If this is my old amp I regret getting rid of it.
That's a nice little box. Not to big in physical size but 200-250 is plenty enough to get you out there. Most of the boxes I get the preamp never works anyway. I consider it a bonus when they do.
That's a super cool looking amp! I have a couple older ones that I keep in my cabinet just because they're so neat. I haven't watched your channel in a while as TH-cam stopped showing me your videos, however this one popped up. I really used to enjoy watching you experiment on making homemade antennas.
John that's a great little lamp and those are great transistors I believe those were the remakes of the 454 mrfs or the mrf 4:55 and I don't believe they make those no more I have those in one of my old Texas Star 250s and they can take a beating
I got a rm Italy kl200p and it has a single real deal mrf 455 and its good for a 100 Watts am and sideband. FM I only go to about 60 watts. Its also 10 years old now😃 been taking a 50 watt pep swing from radio since 2019😃
It is the start of mower season ( at least up here in WI) wife just put the first lawns in for season and now the tractor is come out of service blade replaced gas filter rebalanced etc and she can't wait . Originally tractor was my birthday gift some 12 years ago ( all I asked for was new tires for our old model) the JD shop in town saw ours and gave her hella trade since the older one was 30 plus and still operating they wanted it for demo collection it had the plow,it had tire chain kit it had weighted thatcher times and more we end up with only new tractor no add ones I think we got the bad end of that deal since I more disabled and she took over my " gift" with orders " don't drive MY tractor"
@@user-ef3nu1eh7z well young man look at this way you could have kept the mower got rid of her and half of everything you own , but at this late in the game what the heck the grass is getting cut she’s off the streets , out of trouble and saving you money 😂 I agree with you some people don’t have the same thinking when it comes to something old I guess that’s why I’m on number three 😂
Another fantastic deal! Most guys would've tried to get $200 or more out of that Amp. It looks to be in really good shape too. Looking back I wish I would've kept a few of the amps that I have sold or traded.
@MowerJunkie that's fantastic! A couple weeks ago I bought 4 radios and a old ground plane antenna for $15 I have him $20 one is the radios was a sears road talker 40ch base with original matching mic and it works. One of the others is a 23ch midland with a Turner plus 3 with the midland badging on it. I talked for hours on that one with my locals. I love seeing guys getting good deals abs enjoying this stuff. Thank you for sharing.
Are you actually in wisconsin? I am in central lower WI 20 mi west of wis dells and the water parks and 60+ mi NNW of capital Madison looking to find locals my locals have disappeared over the years ( saves on bleed over) but bad when only have dx to depend on when it died on the eclipse been quiet ever since just now picking up with the pair of x factor sunshots 4 minutes apart this weekend
I have had a few amps with those transistors and if I drove them at 3 watts or higher it would show about what you're getting on pep. But on RMS it would swing backwards one watt in with good swing would get about the same amount of watts and the RMS scale would swing forward a little. Got my best results between 1/2 a watt to 3/4 of a watt from my $10 148 that will swing to 22 watts.

Very cool! it does seem to work very well with my 148 GTL, I guess it likes the old Cobra's.

If not for the print and color that amp is it reminds me of the one I have in my box of stuff ( a digital sports system) built in America Iowa !!
Hey John!
You did very well at the CB meet! I need to drive down there! Looking forward to hearing that little but powerful box!

The Break is a good time, and you can get some great deals there too.
@MowerJunkie, when is the break scheduled
@@MowerJunkieI have a question for you have you ever heard of excella ex200
Nice amp! You could use some black heat-shrink tubing for the negative wire.
Excellent buy - sort of makes up for the buys that don't work out.
Wish I could find a cheap little kicker to go with my Cobra 29. I would love to get on top enough to do some occasional DX work.
Very cool looking box....
Ah,those finals are premium grade mrf 455s. very nice! 75 watts rated.

2.4 khz tone is what you should use . Great clip I enjoyed it
that is a 75 watt transistor @12 v. one step above the 1446.
Check the caps, electrolytic’s all of them! And the film cabs by the the output transformer! UDX38
Hello JOHN.
Looked like the date code on the transistors was 1988.
one more great buy for a few $$$ keep them coming.
Even if the box gives up, hang on to those trimmer capacitors inside there!
I agree. With the amp I owned like this one I was able to lower my SWR by adjusting those. I loved that little amp…
We was just talking about Mowers and look who shows up 😂👋
Who?

I'm glad I saw it, I've been having fun with it. made a couple of contacts, and told it's very clear sounding.

I wanted to see this i posted in the video before this one ... lets see 👀
Man what a deal! Good score!
Not a bad score!! And the meter works!
Do you have the indoor antenna called THE HOMING PIDGEON ? if you do can you do a video on it.
I don't have that one, But it is a cool antenna
Use a black magic marker and color the negative wire black. Problem solved. Good score on the box.
Nice find.
All right I'll take that and that 3 meter Chris radio if you would like to sell or trade nice.
Who says that radio is an expensive hobby?
I buy all my equipment on Marketplace 😅
The pills are worth what you paid good deal
