    I just started painting a blue dragon mini I found on Etsy. I’ve been pouring over all the old images from the forgotten realms wiki and elsewhere trying to find the color I want. I think your video is just about exactly what I’m looking for. The color scheme you’ve used strikes me as the classic blue dragon. I also like the lighter under wings and the blue outer wings. And the base is epic!

    That beachfront base!!! Part of me wants to just quit mini painting after watching this video. I thought the green dragon one was fantastic, but this... I can see how working on one of the bigger dragons would be an awesome gift for someone; so much creative energy in painting a fantastic mini, plus the outstanding renovations to the base. I also loved the Desert Yellow to contrast the mostly blue dragon. It’s beautiful. Yeah, I’ve made errors with paint choices and had to paint over them. Currently, I’m painting the Rage Drake from the Wrath of Ashardalon game. I tried one paint scheme, but couldn’t get what I wanted, so have rethought the colours.

      @@ronaldboal7500 Thanks man! Yeah I tend to have to noodle on my color choices before hand and usually I still have to adjust when I am in the process of painting! I guess it gets better with time as one gains more experience :D

      Devs & Dice - I’m still working on it. I go on Imgur (far too much) for some colour scheme inspiration. I found a couple of examples that I liked, but couldn’t match it. So, I’m thinking more along the lines of the Hellhound from Chronicles of Riddick (fiery red blending to a darker blue). I’ve posted some painted minis there.

    • @ronaldboal7500
      @ronaldboal7500 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Devs & Dice - I love the painted WoA minis. The cultists and snakes are beautiful. I painted the little Gauth, after doing the Wizkids Beholder, the Grell, and the Otyugh (I did watch another TH-cam video for that inspiration - it was the first time I tried dry brushing multiple shades for that mottled effect.)

    Looks really good... However I am from the other side wings.. The color change was meant as a counter camouflage sand side up ( looking down blends with ground ) blue side down, looking up blends with the sky airplanes in WWII used to paint their planes in this fashion and some countries still do.

    I love the paint job, but I will let you know the reason the underside of a blue dragon's wings are blue is so it is harder to spot when flying overhead. I am a huge fan of artists changing color schemes to fit the artists ideal look, however, and I think the brown underneath looks incredible.

    I do like the colour scheme of the dragon and especially your base idea! The blue tones are pleasing.
    Your video inspires me to try water effects on my own models. Never did that before!
    Your dragon looks magnificent, but you could spice it up a bit with a lil bit of seasoning;
    I would recommend to get some Vallejo Black Ink (or an equivalent) and work it into the eye sockets and then give the eyes a highlight of an off-white and lastly an extreme highlight of pure white. This should make the eyes really pop out and draw more focus onto his beautiful scaly face.
    And if you would color the teeth like his horn he would be striking!
    Keep up the good work!

      @@DevsDice I actually went ahead and made a beach scene for my own Young Bronze Dragon, only I went a little further: I had the sea teeming with life and color. I painted some small rocks and reindeer moss to look like coral, threw in a few strands of green moss for seeweed/kelp, and made a tiny clay shark, a bunch of little fish, and modified a clump of spilled hot glue to look like a jellyfish. I made a little tide pool along the shore, with tiny broken shards of real sea shells from the beach I live near. I even used real beach sand.

    Hi Leif! The blue dragon is my favourite D&d monster ever and you definitely did an awesome job! I recently added this model to my collection too. Do you think a two part epoxy glue could be a decent substitute for the water effects? Also, do you think it’s possible to dilute a strong tone to make a mid tone wash?

    • @DevsDice
      @DevsDice  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Matt! First of, thank you so much! I am not sure about the epoxy glue, I would guess so but best be safe and try it on a small surface first? Regarding the wash I would say yes except that it feels like midtone is more reddish in color.

      Yeah good question right? My guess is that there was some sort of missunderstanding in the production of these minis. For me, these are adult ones. ;)

      Devs & Dice they look really adult

      Oh I totally agree! To me it also looks like they have modeled the adult ones from the MM so... I consider these adults even though they are labeled young. :)

    I love the dragon and the base. But I wish you didn't put a blue dragon on the sea coast. Blue dragons live in the desert for the most part and the beaches are more of bronze dragon territory. But I guess the desert could be connected to the ocean. But I'm not extremely happy about it. I still love the way it looks though

      Hi Adrienne! Thank for your comment! Yeah I know that I stretched the lore a bit with the sea and such but I really had a vision of the Blue Dragon being at the shore so I went with it. The issue is what I will do when I paint the Bronze dragon!? :D Thanks for the nice comment!

      @@DevsDice for the bronze dragon you could do it above a coral reef. Bronze dragons love looking at coral

      That's a great idea! I will keep that in mind for when I start working on them metallic ones! Thanks Adrienne! 👍

    Amazing job. But I'm just getting pissed off watching it. It's such great work. I hate my skills.

      Thank you but I am sorry that you get pissed off. Remember that the only people we should compare to is ourselves. You can let other's work inspire or push but it's kind of detrimental for your fun to compare against other - believe me I have the same thing with most other painters. A lot of talent out there and personally I am just happy if I can inspire anyone.

    You guys always lose me at airbrush

    • @DevsDice
      @DevsDice  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      "You guys"? Well that's too bad! but I can honestly say that having an airbrush really simplifies things a great deal and it saves a great deal of time. The best thing is that there are several good entry level airbrushes out there which cost a lot less than only a couple of years ago. I really recommend getting an airbrush after getting a wet palette and some good brushes! :)

      Ahh I see, well there are plenty of Minitubers out there who never use an airbrush. I am sure you're great with a brush - good for you! :)

    Great job (again!). Can you give some info on the UV resin and light? From looking on Amazon I see a TaoTronics light that resembles yours. Thanks!

      I think anyone would of, the one that I think is most accessible is the UV resin from Green Stuff World. I think they have a torch as well! :)
