In 1603 the Scottish Crown took over the English one - the monarch called King of Great Britain although the countries themselves remained separate (hence why it’s called The Union of the Crown) and in 1707 Scotland and England entered into political Union, the monarch of which today being called the King of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I grew up in Scotland I know what I’m talking about.

As a die-hard monarchist, I think the 18th century's idea of dividing the government into just three branches is both archaic and unfit for the needs of the modern world. We need at least two new branches: first, independent treasury to keep the private and public business in balance, making sure lobbying of the multinational corporations doesn't have the precedence over the national interests and democratic rule of law. And secondly - a whole separate, independent branch to defend human rights. The monarch shouldn't be merely a meaningless figurehead but an active participant in governing this branch, defending the people from the oppression of the government and the uncontrolled corporate greed alike. A watcher to watch the watchers so to speak.
