I bought one about 14 years ago. It has won for me every clay comp I've entered. About 5 per year... She's now retired. Still love taking her out now and then. Magnificent gun.
I have my Beretta SP since almost 20 years. I jumped over barbwire, had it in -15degree Celsius and whatever else. I also submerged it once accidentally. It just always works. No cracks nothing. It just looks used....I love it.
I've wanted one of these 686's for the last 3 years and in the last few months I've watched countless 686 videos on youtube including this one. Well today I finally went out and bought one and man I am so glad I did, 20 ga 28" barrels and I can't wait to get it out and use it soon!!!
Just bought a 2010 fixed choke silver pigeon sporter for £600, no extras but a good sound tidy gun. I worked out that if I use it for the next 10 years then scrap it, it’s only cost me £1.15 a week. Happy days😊
Brilliant video explaining the mechanism of the 686. Very interesting indeed. I have owned lots of them but never needed to strip one down because they don't go wrong.
Jonny! Crushed it, thanks for the background knowledge, super sweet to see the quick and easy maintenance on the Beretta 680 series, appreciate the ease of use comments! 🤓
Bought one second hand years ago for half the price of new. Have shot it weekly for over five years in a shotgun league. Never let me down, I have definately improved my game with it. I knew that I could rebuild it my self if it showed wear. I clean and lube it and have had no problems. I would replace it with the same if I were to loose it.
I shoot a lot of registered trap with my 686 and won't shoot anything else now. I have a Browning BT99 that I thought to replace the Beretta with for trap deciding to use the Beretta for Clay's and skeet. After a season with the BT99 I picked up the 686 again and never looked back The difference in feel and pointabilty was like going from driving an old pickup truck and a modern sports car. I'm left handed and my sporting 686 has a left hand cast stock that fits me perfectly. I find the look to be just right, too with a nice amount of engraving that isn't overdone or gaudy. I also love the oil finish wood stock that just gets better over time as opposed to the high gloss urethane finish on so many other brands.
Thank you 👍. I have 686 Silver Perdiz 12 gauge, which I think is predecessor to 686 Silver Pigeon?? I bought it new maybe 25 - 30 years ago if, memory serves. I upgraded the wood on it later … looks sweet & handles nicely.
After 2 years of ownership and over 15k shells fired my SP1 sporting is still tight and has been trouble free. I keep thinking about upgrading but I always decide to just keep shooting it. In fact I'm thinking before this year is out I will have Briley make me a set of sub guage tubes for it. My only complaint is I wish it had a higher grade of wood. Fit, function, and reliability it has in spades. Another fellow on my skeet squad has over 30k rounds on his and he's only had to replace the ejector springs. Another gent I shoot sporting clays with claims his is pushing 50k trouble free. 686 action just works!
Hey TGS! Thanks for all of the hard work and commitment in putting together such great videos. I love your reviews and how nice is it to get a perspective from a gun smith as well as a hunter/shooter. I wish I lived closer. Cheers
Shot with both O/U/ and S/S Beretta's for decades, never let me down . Minimal maintenance, ans use as a tool rather than a toy. Brilliant guns, to my mind the best,,And very very affordable.
Honestly, if I was marketing for Beretta I would take the negatives that were said in this review and print them on a full page advert in every magazine or website that had anything to do with a shotgun. It says a lot when the worst that can be said is that it lacks soul. I mean fair play, I get it. A 1911 has soul. If I’m buying a pistol to put in the collection then, yep, a Colt 1911 please! Of course, the other side of the argument is that, if it ever actually came down to it, I’d want a Glock in my hand… but I get it. BTW: somebody saying that there’s a social stigma attached to a Beretta over under because “it’s common” may very well be the most English thing ever said. Nah, I’m only joking! That was a fantastic review. Seriously appreciated!
Just back into shooting after 10 ywars away. Didn't know how to chose between browning b525 or beretta silver pigeon. So just bought both. Love them both. Keep up tje great work Johnny. Always informative and entertaining.
I miss my SP1 Sporting. Sold it because need the money. Afterwards I got a TriStar TT-15 Sporting. I have absolutely no complains. It works, tight lock up and it patterns well. No issues at all. However that be my beat around shotgun and I just got a Browning Citori 725 30”. I was thinking about the SP1 again but I wanted try something different.
Outstanding video and channel. I was recommended the channel by a friend and it has not disappointed me. Many thanks for so many down to earth, honest and true reporting. 👍🏻
I love my pigeon 20 bore and wouldn't swop it for anything. Suggestion. Put some felt or green baize on your table when doing and maintenance, this would save stock damage.
Bought my 686 SP 1 Field (Game) in Sept 2020. I love it and use it primarily for trap, skeet, and sporting clays. The stock Beretta pad is total crap. I replaced with a Limbsaver pad and now it's perfect.
Thanks for this great review including the negatives. An honest review is always important to have. I enjoy all your videos, keep them coming. Stay well. Ash 🏴
Just bought one thanks to your videos. Great videos and they really helped me learn a lot and also to help me choose an over/under shotgun. I have been hunting in the states for 40 years but never with an O/U. I have decided to give trap and sporting clays a go so I bought the Beretta for use in hunting and also clays. I got the Silver Pigeon 1 but am already thinking that I should have got the Silver Pigeon 3. I guess I should learn how to shoot clays before I worry about such things. Thanks for your videos and all of your help and information, cheers
I was told the berettas kick a fair bit harder than the brownings by a shop owner here in Melbourne. I'd love any thoughts, I've had one shoulder recon already and they are a damn sight more expensive than shotguns!
Not true, I don’t think. I have no evidence for this, but the recoils has more to do with gun weight, fit, bore measurements and butt pad than a brand name.
What is the max life expectancy of a 686 sporting? Trying to get an idea how many rounds I can expect to be able to put through it including rebuilds. Thank you, love the channel!
As a new shooter deciding on a first sporting gun purchase,I am down to the B525 or silver pigeon 1 which I have shot both. Being 6ft 1 I find the Browning seems to fit and feel a little better. I intend to have a proper gun fit before I make any purchase or decision. Having followed your channel and advice since entry into the sport I wondered what your opinion/advice would be on this?
... before the Beretta "680" Series ... they made the Model BL-4 ... nice O/U ... most 20 ga's where 6 - 6 1/2 lbs ... but I have handled one that was 5 3/4 lbs, fixed chokes but it will take a 20ga/3" shell. A very quick, light, hard hitting "field" shotgun ... (you have to learn to get your cheek down and touching the stock vs a "sporting Shotgun" ) Have you ever handled/shot a Ruger Model Red Label ???
Could you do a review on the Beretta White Wing I just bought a used one and I really like it , but cannot find any reviews on any. Would really appreciate your opinion been watching lots of your videos and am subscribed to your channel. Regards from British Columbia Canada
All of your vids are great, and honest! Such a refreshing change from the various gun mags that make everything sound almost miraculous! I suppose it keeps the paid advertisers happy… Had a chance to handle a new Silver Pigeon III? Are they particularly soul-less?
Is the 686 special regarded a silver pigeon or is it the last of the hand finished 680 series? Would be nice to see a comparison of the 2 guns side by side to see what benefits hand fitting against the benefits of the more computer programmed details.
Hey John, my name is Luke I'm from Australia and Im a huge fan of the show. I own multiple rifles and Im interested in getting into clay target shooting. I was wondering if you could give me some advice, I've managed to shorten my list down to these 3 guns for my first shotgun and was wondering which you'd recommend most. Im looking at the Beretta Silver Pigeon I, Miroku Mk10 Sporter and the Miroku Mk11 Sporter. Im looking for something which is durable and well built, has some nice engraving and a good piece of wood and is a good shooter and also good value for money. Out of the 3 shotguns I've listed which would you recommend most ? I look foward to hearing back from John
Hi Luke, this is a difficult one, as we dont have the MK10 or MK11 here in the UK. They appear to be the same action as the rest of the Miroku range, so they would be solid. I would always lean towards the Miroku stable, although looking at what guns you have available to you in the range, i'm not sure if i would go for the same choices as yourself
Hi John, thanks for you reply. So you would favor Miroku over Beretta given my choices and what would you choose from their range based on what I have available in Australia. I quite like the Mk10 because it has a grade 3 walnut stock, includes 3 interchangeable adjustable triggers and also comes with 7 interchangeable hi viz sights. My local gun store has said they can do it for $1870 compared to $2200 for the Beretta Silver Pigeon I.
This guy obviously knows what he's doing. We on the other hand can't see most of what he's showing us plus why not take that bloody sales label off the gun first.Thank you!
I looking at a used bretta 686 special duck edition I believe, is it the same components as the silver pigeon? How much Cad do you think that would be worth used in good shape?
Thanks for making this review. You say you don't like some of the specific models that have been made, could you say which you don't think are up to the same standard as the rest of the 680 series?
The list of fairly long and fairly confusing as some model names have remained for years, the gun changing rather a lot. The silver pigeon one has changed a huge amount in its 7 year life span for example. The bottom line is that all of the actions are good so it’s personal preference as too which wood, barrels and engraving you like and whether the mixture makes for a gun that handles well
Hi. I love your channel. Thanks for all the informative info. Do all Beretta 680 series shotguns make a rattle noise in the receiver when shaken? My SPV and my SP1 both do the same thing? Thanks a lot.
Hi there, I recently purchased a 687 silver pigeon ii 20 bore. Haven’t found much information about them on internet. Are the rare ? Also can I shoot steel and all # field loads? Cheers from Canada
I know in England semi auto shotguns and pump shotguns are looked down on but what is the general consensus on single shot shotguns are they seen in the same light as a semi auto better or worse and are they common
Great video John, but I can see it now ,all the curious Beretta punters with the obligatory carpenters/electricians screwdrivers and vise grips etc, attacking the action with gusto .With the outcome being ,a degree in advanced butchery!!!.
I really enjoy the videos you guys are putting out, this one is no exception! Any thoughts of doing something similar for the Caesar Guerini Summit Sporting?
Helpful video. I think Gleneagles Shooting School used 20bores when we visited. Very civilised too for self, wife & daughters. I’d like one but with high grade wood are they circa £2K second hand mint ?
How nervous should I be while tightening the stock on my 687? I use the T-handle driver holding it with the tips of my of my fingers and tighten it quite tight without grunting or pulling it in close to my body. If the stock cracks I'm pretty sure that I will cry like a little girl which will be embarrassing for all concerned. I think there is a very small gap between the tang and the wood on one side when assembled. I doubt anyone who isn't as worried as me would notice. Should I get a torque wrench or just relax and go shooting?
When tightening any stock bolt, a little force is good, but don't put too much torque on it. As long as it isn't wobbly and keeps tight while shooting it's good. Take the gun to a range first to test it and bring a tool to tighten it if it isn't. I tighten just till before I'd have to muscle it to twist any further.
I think there was a limited run made some years ago, but I don’t believe they are in production any more. Best to keep eyes on auctions and second hand racks everywhere
@@colt10mmsecurity68 so rare fiocchi and federal both sell ammo for it? It can be ordered on just about every big name online store. Some places actually carry 24 gauge in store if they know people in that area have them. Not every gun has to have a purpose. Sometimes you just have something to take out and shoot for fun every now and then. Like an old military surplus gun.
John. Have a question for you. In accordance to your experience, how many rounds it takes for 680 series gun to have locking mechanism parts replaced with oversized ones? Locking lug, hinge pins e.t.c. Considering using a gun only at clay ground using 24-28 gr cartridges. Thank you.
25k or so. It is clear that everyone I have spoken too tells me very different levels of usage but the gun wear appears the same. The real answer is I’m not sure - however 25k seems the most regular figure
Having just bought a 686 Silver Pigeon 1 Game (2018), how would you be able to identify the difference between a Game and Sporter by looking at it alone? Mine doesn't seem to have an auto-safety which is what's confusing me.

TGS is one of the best YoutTube channels. Great host, great content, and my go-to when I decide to research a new shotgun.

The first shotgun I ever shot was a sliver pigeon & for that reason alone I have always had a soft spot for them. Great video as always.
Me to, first ever clay days and for my first beaters day I was lent one. So for me, personally, they still have spirit!

Excellent review Johnny and very informative.
The silver pigeon 20G is a sweet little game gun.
Thanks. Very helpful. Removes some of the uncertainty about owning and maintaining one of these

My first shoot gun only had it 6 months love it
You have a wonderful channel! I’m very lucky to have found you.
Thank you for sharing a wealth of knowledge!
Cheers from Canada!
Looks really solid considering getting a EELL diamond pigeon as a sporting/game gun
Great review! Your knowledge is amazing!
Wow another great video. I love my Silver Pigeon..Keep up the great work.
Lou Fraulo Sr thanks for the comment
Same here lad absolutely love mine!

Thank you for this great review. It would be great if you could do the same for Browning B525 ;)
Not long had my silver pigeon , just got to get used to it as used everybody else’s gun on clay range , but like it so far
What is the max life expectancy of a 686 sporting? Trying to get an idea how many rounds I can expect to be able to put through it including rebuilds. Thank you, love the channel!
I have heard of shooting ground instruction guns shooting over half a million rounds
Great video literally answered every question that I had in my mind 🙏🏽
As a new shooter deciding on a first sporting gun purchase,I am down to the B525 or silver pigeon 1 which I have shot both.
Being 6ft 1 I find the Browning seems to fit and feel a little better.
I intend to have a proper gun fit before I make any purchase or decision.
Having followed your channel and advice since entry into the sport I wondered what your opinion/advice would be on this?
Always enjoy your videos from here in the US. Suggestkon, use a lip mic for better voice clarity..sounds today like too much background echo!
All your videos are top notch I must say. Haven't watched a bad one yet

"Social Observations Upon It" - great comment!
I'm getting my first 686 in a few weeks =) Can't wait! Great looking gun!
Daniel Lindqvist the new or old version
How do like it now?
Ok, what are the differences between a 686 SP and a 686 EVO?
Could you do a review on the Beretta White Wing I just bought a used one and I really like it , but cannot find any reviews on any. Would really appreciate your opinion been watching lots of your videos and am subscribed to your channel.
Regards from British Columbia Canada
The dude certainly knows his stuff.
He is also most definitely a dude
Can you Get a 410 barrel for 28 gauge will if fit in with out gun smithing?
Great video, thank you for doing these. very well put together, and the music during the take down was a nice touch.
Awesome video. Just discovered your channel a few days ago and watched already many episodes
Are the 686 special just the same as the silver pigeon
Could you look at .410 Hushpower? Such an underrated gun and so bizarre but at the same time weirdly exciting.
All of your vids are great, and honest! Such a refreshing change from the various gun mags that make everything sound almost miraculous! I suppose it keeps the paid advertisers happy…
Had a chance to handle a new Silver Pigeon III? Are they particularly soul-less?
good informative video, the price tag flapping about annoyed the heck out of me!
Hi John, thanks for you reply. So you would favor Miroku over Beretta given my choices and what would you choose from their range based on what I have available in Australia. My local gun store has said they can do it for $1870 compared to $2200 for the Beretta Silver Pigeon I.
The Miroku MK10 or MK11 is pretty much the same as the MK38 but was only for the Australia & NZ market.
Great video. Looking forward to other strip down videos
A bloody good review, thank you 😊👍
This guy obviously knows what he's doing. We on the other hand can't see most of what he's showing us plus why not take that bloody sales label off the gun first.Thank you!
Why don't you remake the video, then you can take the tag off.
I looking at a used bretta 686 special duck edition I believe, is it the same components as the silver pigeon? How much Cad do you think that would be worth used in good shape?
Great video. So simple and well thought out. I might have to consider one of these
Thanks for making this review. You say you don't like some of the specific models that have been made, could you say which you don't think are up to the same standard as the rest of the 680 series?

What sort of money ( ball park ) are you generally looking at for a new stock for a 1992 silver pigeon
Have one, now saving up for a Paralello ...
686silver pigeon 1 or beretta sv10 perennia 1?????????????
Hi. I love your channel.
Thanks for all the informative info.
Do all Beretta 680 series shotguns make a rattle noise in the receiver when shaken? My SPV and my SP1 both do the same thing? Thanks a lot.
For hunting mobilchoke or optima-choke?
Excellent videos. Thanks.
Hi there, I recently purchased a 687 silver pigeon ii 20 bore. Haven’t found much information about them on internet. Are the rare ?
Also can I shoot steel and all # field loads?
Cheers from Canada
Have a 686 20 bore with auto safety. Can it be changed to a manual safety?
What would you choose for s first gun a new silver pigeon 1 or a 7-8 year old mint 682 gold e??
Is there much difference between the 682 Gold E and 686 Silver Pigeon to justify the extra cost?
I know in England semi auto shotguns and pump shotguns are looked down on but what is the general consensus on single shot shotguns are they seen in the same light as a semi auto better or worse and are they common
My new sp1 sporter came from the factory with some white stuff on the stock and fore end. What do recommend using to clean the wood?
great instructional video John as usual, very reliable nice looking shotgun. thanks for posting, have a good one...Bill
Cheers Bill
Seen one of these in a store today with matte black barrels. Is this a special model or possibly after market fit?
Great video John, but I can see it now ,all the curious Beretta punters with the obligatory carpenters/electricians screwdrivers and vise grips etc, attacking the action with gusto .With the outcome being ,a degree in advanced butchery!!!.

The Gun Shop lol!

Helpful video. I think Gleneagles Shooting School used 20bores when we visited. Very civilised too for self, wife & daughters.
I’d like one but with high grade wood are they circa £2K second hand mint ?
Great video, but still you have not answered my question? Can I shoot steal shot #4 or 6 3" shell
Thanks for the review

Where can I find an original 686 rubber butt?

I know these come in 24 gauge, and I’ve talked to and heard of people in the USA that have them, but how do you get one in 24 gauge in the USA?
I think there was a limited run made some years ago, but I don’t believe they are in production any more.
Best to keep eyes on auctions and second hand racks everywhere
@@tgsoutdoors thanks. I’ve got a 24 gauge ingle shot as well as a couple 32’s. Very cool guns. Just wanting a nice double in 24.
I would never get a 24 gauge. Finding the ammo in the USA would be a nightmare. It is a rare unicorn caliber.
Another great video guys.
Apologies if I missed it, what is the age of this gun ?
Great infor , just starting 👍
TGS Outdoors , Thank you John!

Having just bought a 686 Silver Pigeon 1 Game (2018), how would you be able to identify the difference between a Game and Sporter by looking at it alone? Mine doesn't seem to have an auto-safety which is what's confusing me.
Some sporters have ventilated mid ribs, whereas game generally don't.
The stock of a game gun are straighter and more narrow as well.
what's the lube uesed on the butstock? and what size screw is the one holding the stock to the triggerunit? Thanks in advance
Great analysis, thank you!
A pleasure
