Had a ton of fun playing this game! There were three moments that really stuck out for me in this game which were pivitol moments that got me to second and not first. The first was when firm grip was on the row I didn't have my ring in hand and was using jessica to draw for it to reserve it before Lukas could buy it. Unfortunately out of the three cards left in my deck I drew the two that weren't my ring which was a rough moment for me because with both jessica and firm grip in my deck, I would have just steam rolled the rest of the game. Second was when I played test of humanity to knock Lucas out of the conflict and send my own troops in, I sent in two instead of one which forced me to not have any troops in future conflicts to not get any resources for any future conflicts. Also the goal with my spend two money to go up on a track was for me to steal the fremen alliance from Lukas but when he used kris knife to finish the track I just decided to use it to solidify my own track. (I also had a TON of spend spice for sword intrigues that I couldn't use because I was saving the spice for the victory point card and couldn't get them out of my hand)
Also I didn’t notice it but someone in the original video said blue player forgot to get two troops when he conspired which was the two troops he needed to win the two point conflict that beast won which would have given me the win
Thanks for the extra insight, particularly about drawing into your deck! A close game and obviously that is the way it breaks sometimes. DI is prone to the impact of the deck shuffle in a way that other deck builders aren't because it's a "slow" deck builder and sounds like that's what happened to you here. Very well played and good luck next time!
Hi Nick, congratulations on the 1k subs and thanks for calling me handsome in the beginning of the video :). Maybe I can explain a bit about the sell melange-sword master gamble that I took in the beginning of the game. I was aware that another player could beat me to sell melange in the second round, but I considered it an acceptable gamble, as I think that selling melange for 2 = 6 solari is not a great move overall. That only left Tien with the possibility to get 3 spice in the first round if he had his signet ring. Maybe you already know this, but Tien wouldn't be able to sell the spice that he gets from his ring as part of the sell melange action, so he wouldn't be able to use his ring for this purpose. But even if I would have been beaten to it, I would still be able to take Conspire with the spice that I had, which is a solid space overall. Thanks again for the analysis, and hope to play against you again someday soon!
Having conspire as a backup totally makes sense, and clearly the gamble paid off really well - so you read the opponent correctly! You're right that i totally blanked on not being able to use the ring resource to pay for Sell Melange (I was thinking of it backwards, like getting coins to pay for Baron's ring) so thanks for calling that out. VERY well played - congratulations on two finals and a ring! I'll see you next year
They do feel like good draws - and points are so sparse that having access to another makes a big difference. What do you think about the other ones that score points mid game?
@@phoenicksgaming They are also great but only give half the points of the endgame cards a lot of the time. One of the downsides to the endgame cards is that they don't trigger the end game as you said however when the people at the highest level arent playing around an obvious plans within plans then its a little moot.

Congrats on the 1k subs
Cheers!

Plans within plans and Spice must flow endgame scoring cards are absolutely broken. So hard to beat a player who has one of them.
