yo, if he gave lectures at my school I would be in there every day. -eliminate all competition- and have the ultimate goal to be one of his favored students!
Actually, what he was saying to those kids wasn't that hard to understand. Hyperventilation, strangulation, and oxygen deprivation are all words that a high school student should be able to understand. The whole "what planet is this dude form" part is funny, but those terms should make sense to those kids. (Especially with the diagram.) Or maybe it's just me understanding Ried's lectures. XD
They weren't really paying attention to Reid so they probably didn't know what he was talking about. They just thought he was some nerd trying to make them lose the contest.
Ok but imagine being that kid who ran, hearing that speech. It's been a while since I saw this episode, but Ryan's death was something he experienced often if I remember right. Hearing that must have pushed several buttons and set off multiple alarms.
This is why I think Spencer would have been the ideal father- he is kind and rarely raises his voice, but he is able to see through bullshit and go straight to the point without losing his composture (much)
Anyone else catch that with how they showed the kid who had died? When Reid is describing who he was, the kid fades in looking like a pretty normal kid... but when Reid talks about how he died, the kid raises his head and he's got this more sickly expression with hollowed eyes.
I feel like Morgan should have responded with “this is coming from a guy who had graduated high school at age twelve, and had three phds and worked for the behavioral analysis unit in the fbi before he was twenty four. you are wearing a dog collar and sitting in the back of a class that’s competing in a strangulation game that already killed a kid who used to sit a few rows ahead of you. you want to question him?”
Tbh, that would probably push them further away. A lot of high schoolers reject everything that’s different, some embrace it, others reject it completely, but all of them are tired of the «I’m smarter than you, so you need to listen to me» speech. I don’t blame them entirely, cause they’re constantly told that they don’t know anything about the «real world» and how it works. I think Reid did a really good job of explaining himself though❤️
And what's truly sad.... Is that people belittle science... the judge it, mock it and at worst don't listen to it... Even when it could save their lives. That's what REAL science is for.
Dude those kids suck at texting in class. You dont look back at the person your texting. You also try to make it as quiet as possible and as subtle as humanly possible.
For lots of teens that's a perfectly valid instinct after being told to go to the front of the class and present any idea/theory. Heck we can totally stereotype here. That outfit is an experiment in presenting himself, usually speaking such experimentation comes from a dissatisfaction in how you presented yourself previously. Doing so according to social norms didn't work out, so something new is tried. It's not bad or unhealthy behaviour, I've seen plenty of teens discovering self confidence through that way. But it's not a large stretch to say he's over compensating for his lack of confidence.
People actually play games like this. There was one a few years ago that people my age were doing, people I knew. No one I know died from it, but I know a lot of people did die. This wasn't a strangling one though, it was something about breath or whatever? I'm not quite sure as I never participated and I wasn't actually friends with anyone who did so it was never explained. But it was really dangerous. There was another one a little more recent where there was a dare a day and the final dare was to kill yourself... I don't know anyone who participated in that one though...
A lot of kids play stupid games without knowing the consequences, like taking quick breaths before trying to stay underwater for the long (which can lead to shallow water blackout). So many things can easily kill you and when you normalise a game like that you end up thinking you're indestructible.
