The only reason that I can think a “router” works and a switch does not is likely due to IP assignment. The systems likely need a dhcp assignment and are sending data via L3. So, you may not “need to be directly connected to a router.” Cool product.

The arcade box has 1/4-20 threading on the bottom, so it will work with just about any tripod that has a speed plate on it. We used a light stand with a Gobo head and a baby pin with 1/4-20 threading.
Yah I've seen these and it would be easy to get the right size tubing and make a custom stand, or like use some basic hardware to mount it wherever you want.

That might be possible but it would require another program or app to be installed on the device.
