Country singers often traditionally take the intoxicated path, usually live through it and write songs about it later. America loves 2nd chances and comebacks. In 6 months she’ll be on the cover of Crawdaddy saying she has never felt better and has a new lease on life
It’s nice to see you again, Pete. I too have just heard of Ingrid. In the 1st Naked Gun movie, it was funny when Leslie Nielsen sang it because it wasn’t real. But our national anthem is not meant to be funny in real life. Also, nobody wants it sung like some lounge singer or with vocal acrobatics. Just sing it and know what it means to others.
I love hearing the birds and wind in the background.
So many great guitarists out there who could’ve come out and done a rip roaring Jimi Hendrix style version.
That was a protest version, if you recall. It's one of the greatest pieces of musical art ever, but can you imagine a Hendrix-style hippie/lefty musician performing a protest version of the national anthem just days after THAT thing happening? People were mad when he did that at Woodstock in 1969. Imagine now...
@@nectarinedreams7208 It’s been done many times since from guys like Steve Vai to Slash to Joe Satriani. Doesn’t need to be a protest, just an instrumental version with a heavy twist.

Why are too many American national anthems performed at their local national leagues?
The rest of the world only plays national anthems on international games like The Olympics and the World Cup.
Americans are also obsessed with displaying their flags everywhere while the rest of the world only display them on Government buildings or international events like the Olympics

I really like Ingrid Andress music she is a really good singer and I have both of her albums.I hope she gets the help she needs and Ingrid can put this behind her and have along and successful music career.

I don't think it was alcohol, it was something else. I was surprised she remembered the words. People love a comeback story so time will tell if she can resurrect her career.

In 1983 Marvin Gaye sang the National Anthem at the NBA All Star Game. The most beautiful rendition of our Anthem I have ever heard. Unfortunately this is just another example of the sign of our times. Man can we use Marvin Gaye today

I don't think she was ready for something like this at this point in her career just yet. The pressure is tremendous and I don't think she's as seasoned as others before her.

It was horrible , but Carl Lewis attempting it is still the best one ever. That one was hilarious . The funny part is, we ve never heard of her before this. Now, we know who she is. I predict this will sell alot more of her albums. Unfortunately

With all of the turmoil going on, I must say it was truly comic relief. Sad to laugh at her expense, but...
My first question was "Why did she think she could do it?" She simply couldn't hit the notes. Singers know what their range is. Why did she think she could do it if she knew it was out of her range? Even drunk singers can sing, they just mess things up a bit. This was WAY beyond that. Btw, I never heard of her before this incident. This is now her defining moment, which sucks.
When even autotune and pitch correction do not help. Whoever invents the anti-alco effect will win.
I think it was TV writer Larry Gelbart who once said that the job of someone singing our National Anthem is to honor and glorify it, not have sex with it.
Saved this to watch before heading out for the walk in the Florida heat before the daily rains set in. First, had to watch a video of the performance. The national anthem deserves better and now the bar has been lowered or raised, as the case may be, for the worst rendition in memory. Some of my favorite modern versions are, of course, Jimi Hendrix, and the finding-the-groove version by Marvin Gaye. Good luck to Ingrid as she seeks to put this behind her. Thanks for the rant, Pete. Otherwise, likely would have missed this. If SoT ever does a worst vocal performance episode of the Hudson Valley Squares, certainly expect to see this. Thanks again.
It was very humiliating for her. I also knew that right from the start that it was going to be a train wreck. I hope she gets the help that she needs.
I think people will be quite forgiving. Her disease plus the nerves probably made it extremely difficult not to drink heavily in the hours leading up to the performance. Maybe she doesn't have much support around her. Maybe she was being pushed into it by management. Who knows? I'd love to see her bounce back and maybe even have another go, sober. I have to assume she's capable of pulling it off.

OMG, what the heck was that? I intend to tackle it over on my channel as well, but in a slightly different way.
When I first heard the news that a country singer destroyed the the national anthem, I did not expect it to be her because the woman can sing. I checked out the first few bars of her singing it and I had to turn it off. I guess with each passing year of my life, I am less into seeing someone royally fail publicly, especially if the person seems to be a good person and reputation.
I viewed the apology as a weak excuse at first, but after a few days, I now hope she gets the help she needs.
Pete is 100% correct about bad videos last forever. Sing the song correctly and then enjoy a few cold ones.
Finally, I wish singers would stop trying to change up the anthem. That song is not a normal song. Please respect it and sing that way.

Out of curiosity, I listened to the thing, and while she may indeed have beendrunk, it seems to me thatshe was singing out of her range. Ths is why singing at home in your shower is good -- it lets you (and the rest of the family/household) know what notes you can actually hit effectively.

They've cancelled all their tours & apparently disbanded, because of Kyle's remark about Trump that has upset a ton of people, not just at Kyle but at Jack Black as well.
I think Pete'll probably steer clear of that, Sea of Tranquility is a politics free oasis and a great safe space where we can all come and share our love for the music.
What I've heard (not much) of her singing other stuff I was not impressed with.
Check out Huey Lewis and The News singing the National Anthem a' capella at a baseball game. It may have been a World Series game. That's how you do it.

These events would be on safer ground if they hired singers that didn't feel the need to wail through the octaves. Then again, I wouldn't want Ed Sheeran busking his way through an Anthem either.
I’ve said this before. It’s no shame- if you can’t handle the anthem stay away. It’s song that separates the men from the boys as they say- live, no backing track, no autotune. We’ve seen professional singers struggle with it. It’s unfortunate- for 90 percent of the audience this performance will be her legacy. You can’t turn back the clock.
Substance abuse happens and makes people make huge mistakes, I feel bad for her only because it will follow her for her whole life, thus probably hurting her career. I agree someone one must of known before hand.
Agree - not good. BUT - as you mentioned, her support crew, friends let her down badly. They should have stopped her going on - that's what friends and a support network does, it supports and helps you in times of need - and she needed it that's for sure. Cya

Oh man, that poor girl. I actually saw her live in concert once, opening for Keith Urban, and I thought she was really good. I also like a few of her songs. Unfortunately, she really didn't do herself any favors by showing up like that. It started badly and only got worse.

Never heard of her. Worse than Yoko after this. Linda Ronstadt did a classy, traditional rendition back in the 70's at a Dodger's game. Great voice and did it without all the vocal theatrics like others do.
If this is what modern Country is offering, I'm definitely NOT interested. Not that I care about the MLB or the unnecessary, silly, forced propaganda of having the National Anthem played(or sung) before sporting events. I recall the legendary George Carlin having a great bit about this. 😆

Truthfully, while its DEFINITELY on the Mt. Rushmore of godawful National Anthems it was only the second worse thing from the All Star game.

Glad I didn't see/hear it. Actually I think a lot of National Anthem renditions that I have heard at sporting events have been less than stellar. One of the better recent ones was Chris Stapleton at Super Bowl LVII - wow!...I do think a lot of people forget these performances though over time, especially if the artist in question puts out good music after that...Of course no one touches Jimi's version (especially given the time period), early on a Monday morning after most concert attendees had already left. Imagine going to Woodstock & leaving before Hendrix played...

Jewel's gone on to have a pretty big career, I was intrigued though, apparently the NFL usually gets singers to pre-record vocals and she missed her queue to start miming!
