Thank You. In the UK I bought Love's first LP to get hold of their versions of "Hey Joe" and "Little Red Book". Never looked back and never lost faith. Saw them about six times over the years in the UK. The MOST underated band EVER !
I think Arthur Lee was amazing and brilliant! This band was so underrated and overlooked. I must say I feel so lucky to have seen him with Johnny Echols and Don Conka who showed up as guests on his Forever Changes tour at the Galaxy Theatre in Costa Mesa. RIP Arthur and Bryan....
Love, a darn fine band of the era when music was stimulating & diverse ! If you weren't fortunate enough to have heard them in the 60s & 70s, Explore this band !
Great to see this. forever Changes has been my favourite album since a guy gave me the original UK version as a present in Scotland in 1987. The only album I've listened to that Iv'e loved EVERY time - and i must have played it a few hundred times since then. Such an inspiration, in many ways - not just musically, but attitude, sense of cool and fashion.
"De Capo" and "Forever Changes" had songs that rank with anything coming out of San Francisco or London during that period. And I've been hearing more amazing new releases with Jimi Hendrix that are mind blowing. As a teenager living in North Hollywood with a Honda 250 for transport over to "The Strip", I was fortunate enough to watch Love and their phenomenal rise above the City of the Angels. All the way to the stars. So many great concerts introducing so many other great LA bands like the Doors. Meanwhile wandering thru abandoned derelict once famous movie star mansions with overgrown Greek statuary. After ingesting one of those little purple pills....You may call it decadence? I say, better than getting shipped off to the jungles of Viet Nam. Or watching a mushroom explode over the city.
Loved watching this on it's release, always loved Love and still do, wish I'd been able to see them in their heyday but you can't have everything if you weren't born back then. As they mellowed with age - and from reading the drummer Michael Stuart-Ware's excellent book (and Arthur's autobiography) - you really got a sense of what it was like for them. Some of the stories are incredible in the books. If only Arthur had felt more relaxed about touring and promoting the band but deep down he was a hustler and a maverick and by that 3rd album they all needed a score of some description; maybe they'd have made it bigger than they did if the approach was different. They were in their time and ahead of their time; Arthur was just one of those true one-off's, a unique individual who seemed at his pomp to be a force of nature
Im way into the Forever Changes book? run dont walk and get this book. the studio sections for Forever Changes are unreal! RIP "Po" you made lovely music.
They inspired a whole subculture in the UK in the 80's - the indie/60's style people who were rejecting the mainstream 80's music and style. Super cool band, with a intoxictating mixture of wonderful music and a notorious reputation. I wore nothing but chelsea boots for the next four years! As Booby Gilliespie said back then "We dont wear chelsea boots because LOVE wore them, we wear them for the same reason - because they're COOL!"
It was good that Arthur made a real point of saying that Bryan was a great, great songwriter. By the time this was made Bryan had passed of course but I think Arthur always knew Bryan's talent. Definitely better together than they were apart
What ever happened to this movie that was supposed to come out last year? Has anyone seen it? All I come up with Love Story star Ali Mcgraw and Andy Williams. Was this film ever released?
Thank You.
