I did some checking after your last video about exercise and diabetes, where Russia did very well. I already knew they had one of the lowest life expectancies of the developed world. This is what I found out. (I could not find quality data regarding diabetes) Of the sixteen countries listed from the exercise graph featured in your last video ( in order, Netherlands, Germany, Russia, India, Canada, USA, UK, Australia, Sweden, S Arabia, Mexico, France, Italy, Brazil). Russia was 3rd best for exercise. 4th worst for obesity. 4th worst for alcohol consumption. Middle of the pack for smoking. Dead last (worst) for heart disease. Dead last for dementia. Next to last for life expectancy (India was last). The data for these statistics ranged between 2019 and 2021.

While the urban rich may eat a fair amount of meat, most people aren't wealthy and live far away from the cities and health care - they don't fit this criteria.
Average Russians eat high carb, moderate/low protein, and high fat. There is a lot of processed food plus a heck of a lot of alcohol on average Russian's tables. Throw in that many people in rural areas are very poor, with marginal access to any fresh food - esp in the winter.
Apart from that, the low life expectancy is impacted by violence, alcohol abuse, drug abuse, and poor access to medical care (the idea that 95% of Russians have adequate iron levels is laughable. I doubt even 20% would have access to that blood work) - and in recent years, the war.

I know firsthand. No. They eat high carb. Most of people do not eat much of red meat there. It is expensive for them. They eat a lot of bread and potatoes for sure. As for low blood sugar maybe that we can attribute to a lot of walking for the population living in cities. Often you cannot even get a garage for your car in vicinity of your apartment so you forced to walk. And it is expensive to own and drive cars for the most.

Met a russian man here in germany age 67 not visibly fat.
We had a conversation and he said: I start my day with coffee
and 12 teaspoon sugar inside and no lunch without sweet desert and cookies in the afternoon.
    Very unique .

Every comment just mentions "vodka". It is not only stereotypical but also quite outdated.
As to the "low carb - high carb" question - potatoes, buckwheat, etc are indeed carbs but since when did we start demonizing all carbohydtrates in our diets to the point of saying they can decrease lifespan and increase all-cause mortality? I bet the prob isn't in carbs per se, but in the quality of those carbs (I'm referring to ultra processed foods). So looking into the obsession with junk food and fast food in general, strained economic situation we can guess that these factors may actually play a role in problems with health.
As to stress - it is a stressful world we all live in, don't you think?

Some percentage of people have genes….like P921….the Heart Attack gene….and a bad version of this gene…causing their endothelial lining to be much more susceptible to oxidation stress…and this will cause damage ….which will cause clotting….which leads to atherosclerosis and CVD.
Someone needs to look at these findings with relation to genes we know are associated with CVD.
Additionally processed meat, alcohol consumption and smoking all contribute to CVD….and should have been factored in to their findings.
Instead this was a meat is bad for you article 🤨

Quality of this food data is very suspicious. I've been to Russia and Ukraine a handful of times. Going low-carb was conscious decision on my part, otherwise, you're going to get stacked with loads of carb options. Their grocery stores are packed with carbs and any traditional family table will have a plethora of carbs....bread galore.

Russian here. The diet varies from person to person, but in general, we eat a lot of carbs, especially the poorer areas. The cardiovascular issue has risen from alcohol and smoking. Can confirm the processed meat bit, since I've worked in the meat packing plant, where I made almost all types of processed stuff. The shorter life span though, the glaring reason is the stress, imo. I'm 37yo, non-smoker, quit drinking recently, even though I always have been a light drinker throughout my life, and now I'm quite intrigued if I live longer then my late dad, who passed away at 51. Cheers.

Everyone smokes in Russia. Literally everyone, I'm sure this affects the cardiovascular system. Also, it's a fitness culture. Everyone has their kids doing karate or gymnastics or some sort of sport. If you removed the alcohol and cigarettes I think Russians would be exceedingly healthy.

Having grown up in Russia in the 90's, I can definitely say that you massively underestimate the effect of alcoholism. It kinda intruded into the culture so much, that it has always been almost a norm to finish a bottle of vodka with your friend during one evening. If you move away a little bit from larger cities, life in a typical Russian province is basically a non-stop series of consumption of alcohol as the only source of fun. And it's only recently when this culture has started to change a tiny bit. I don't know how this compares to the US or the other countries, but this a mere self-destruction that, as I believe, safely outweighs all other possibly healthy eating habits of any kind.

Lets start with the foundation. Cardiovascular disease is from high blood pressure period. If it had anything to do with cholesterol or LDLs we would see it in veins and we never have as cholesterol LDLs are in the veins. Chronic high blood pressure causes cardiovascular disease. Anything that causes chronic hypertension causes cardiovascular disease. Do we blame the fire truck for fires because they are always at the scene? Do we blame the ambulance for being at the medical emergency so quickly no we don't. So why do we blame the LDL for being at points of damaged arteries and the heart it's actually ridiculous. So before we try make sense of data it helps if we actually understand what were talking about and not just repeating stuff we heard or endorsing weak hypothesis's of other people.

Genetics....to survive in the Russan steppe against draughts and famine, let alone the winters the slavs generally carry excess fat quite easily. You would have never found a tall lean serf in imperial Russia. To survive they were short with a slow metabolism . And thus they had relatively short life spans.

References to "processed meat" are tiresome and problematic. The bashers should get back to us when they figure out what part of "processed" matters. It's a catch-all that's used to bash meat, and you can argue that processed carbs and fats are worse.
PS: The fact is, people depend on processed foods, and we should eat as much fresh as we can-but let's not get on the "processed meat bad" track without some practical information to act on it.

I totally get it dude. I’m sure you know more than me by being in it. But I’m not looking at incorrect data either. Russia has an increasing level of diabetes that is alarming, but up until a couple years ago had some of the best oral glucose tolerance tests in the world. That’s what this video was about. Stable, generally good blood sugar for decades, yet still very high CVD. It’s pretty strange in a lot of ways.
