This is a very rich review. I just finished reading Stay With Me, and it’s a “I can’t drop it” book. The book is an eye-opener to several themes to relate to African culture such as Childlessness in marriage, women’s place in the home, traditional belief system of losing a child, and a brother as sperm donors. All these themes are forcefully presented in this novel, making it a must read. I’ll recommend it to all book lovers.
I am Nigerian and i can totally relate to Yejide's struggles. We are raised not to question our husbands or even ask questions because a woman should 'take' things as it is. Thank God for the 21st century eye-opening facts about feminism and the peculiarity of being a woman. We are taking our place and exuding our strength. This book broke my hearts into numerous pieces, but it was beautifully written and the love between Akin and Yejide was palpable. Cheers to Ayobami
Thanks for sharing your thoughts OluwaTomisin, love reading your reviews as well. If you have any book suggestions for the future, we'd love to hear them!
I love this! I've been binging West African literature recently, and it's so good to get your perspective, and also just feel like I'm having a good gossip session after reading this book. It really took my heart and stomped all over it.
I really enjoyed your very insightful review guys, particularly how many of the social dynamics explored in the book still play out today. I can't wait to see more videos in the series! Could you consider doing a review on Nervous Conditions?
