People here choose to live in smaller houses and apartments because rents and living costs are high in general. Especially for young people which has got low income and are living in bigger towns where everything costs more. Also, bigger homes need more maintaining. People in nordic countries like to be practical and downsize everything they don't actually need that much. Anyway, living small doesn't mean you have to feel uncomfortable.

Your apartment reminds me of the one I had in Japan. Their high tech toilets are great and save water too. We put them in the house we built 10 years ago. We have heated tile floors in the bathrooms, natural Koa wood floors in the rest of the house. The HVAC system lets us control the temperature in each room. The roof shingles are actually solar panels which generate far more electrical power than we need and the local power company buys the excess. House walls are 10 inches thick with extra insulation, the roof interior has a soy spray foam insulation with additional insulation in the attic. Double pane windows with argon gas for better insulation. Extra electrical outlets and circuits in most rooms. On demand hot water heaters of course.
We get fierce snow storms with category 2 hurricane strength winds called Bomb Cyclones. Tornados in the summer. Temps from 110 F to -20 F. Typical for this part of Colorado, USA. Gorgeous sunny days most of the time.
We've never had a power bill even when we had 15 stranded motorists staying with us for 10 days. We knew that this would be our retirement home so made sure that it is handicapped accessible.
I'm excited for both of you. Thanks for taking us on your journey. 💟💟💟

American here. Bathroom is the name of the room. Around friends and family you'll say, "I need to go to the bathroom", but out in public with strangers or acquaintances you'll say "restroom" to be more polite.
My family calls it a living room, but we only had one. Once you get into larger houses you can have multiple living rooms with different names. Living room, den, family room, front room, game room, bonus room, media room, sun room, tv room, sitting room (no tv), man cave, etc. Any combination of these for as many as you have.

Sitting room, family room, living room all work. The stuff on our floors is carpet. Rugs and mats are sort of the same. A mat is usually smaller. Like in the bathroom, or in front of the kitchen sink. Rug also works for that space. But Rug also means a big area rug. Like in the living room or the family room, or under a table. Also, our laundry room is usually separate from the bathroom. Having a separate good sized pantry room off our kitchen's is something that makes sense in some of our houses in the states. We can use this areas for storing food, as well as small kitchen appliances like slow cookers, instant pots, air fryers, etc. A pantry can be used for many things. It is a really wonderful feature to have in a home in the states. If you build a new house, consider adding a pantry to the plans.

Hello from Pennsylvania in America. It is called a living room here. I love the dish racks above the sink! Never seen it or thought of it and your right. I have a small galley kitchen and the dish rack takes up so much needed space. In America most kitchen sinks have a window to look out and see the kids in the yard so typically there are no cabinets or only half size cabinets over the sinks.

  • @MsGlitterVeins21
    @MsGlitterVeins21 4 ปีที่แล้ว

I just thought of something that some kitchens here in America have that I think would be very useful! I’ve mainly seen them in very nice fancier kitchens. Wish I had one. A pot filler or pasta arm I think it’s called. Basically it’s a metal spout that is attached to the wall right behind your stove (it folds in and out, so you can fold it back in when not in use) it is connected to running water and you use it to fill up pots of water so that you don’t have to carry a heavy pot full of water from the sink... or stand there balancing a pot while waiting for it to fill up with water to boil something. You can just fill it with water while the pot is sitting right there on the stove!

In the UK we call it Ground floor - 1st floor is one level up. We call it a living-room or lounge , but not lounge-room. We also call that a Studio flat - where you have everything (except the shower-room) in one space. Here dog-owners must pick up their dog's poo - it's not hygenic to leave it lying out , even on the grass. In the UK you can have an immediate hot-water system linked to the central heating (we tend to heat our houses with water-filled radiators heated by a gas boiler) called a Combi (short for Combination) boiler - or you can have a hot water tank in a cupboard where hot water is stored til you need it. The second system can be a bit wasteful if you don't use all the water, or you can run out of hot water, but it does give you a lovely, warm 'airing cupboard' to keep towels/bed-linen in or dry-off clothes. Under-floor heating is also becoming more common here too.

I had to double check the C' to F' conversion. 68'F is our winter, here in Fl. It is currently 100' with a feels like of 107' & 70% humidity. I should live in Finland! We call it a Living Room here. A Lounge, is a little more formal room for relaxing, or receiving guests. We also have family rooms, rec rooms and rumpus rooms lol. That dish drying system, is ingenious!!

Here in the States we call the sprayer next to the toilet a bidet pronounced bee-day. It's used to clean your bum. It's also used to hose off cloth diapers when they are dirty.
We often use a dish drainer beside the sink, especially if you do not have a dishwasher. You place your wet dishes in it to air dry.
We call the room with the television a living room or family room, but we also have a similar room called a den.
The two of you are a beautiful couple and look very happy together.
Infinite blessings to you always. May you grow old sharing the same pillow.

In the USA it's living room. If you get your kitchen cabinets from Ikea then you can get the drain over the sink. Otherwise, we purchase something to go on the counter to dry the dishes. Your apartment would be called a studio apartment since there is not a separate bedroom.

I call the living room the t.v room or family room it can also be called the parlor or sitting room usually in wealthier homes. Some people also have formal living rooms where you just have chairs, couches or chaise most of the time these have a fireplace. Then they have a separate living room more for every day gathering to watch the television, play games, etc. I hope that helps a little. I am really enjoying getting to know you and Jenna through your videos. Your home is so nice I pray you are blessed with all you need and all of your hearts desires. 💗

I would say each family has their own opinion on if you take shoes off or not. My dad always says shoes have been in public restrooms so they dont get used in the house. So i still dont wear shoes in my own house now either. We used to have carpeting but my husband said it was too hard to keep clean so we pulled it all out and tiled everything except the bedrooms. Took us forever but it looks good and easier to keep clean.

Living room or family room here in the U. S. Or, you can call it a “sun room”, if you want, because it is by your windows and doors to your balcony 😉😋 You two are so cute. Thanks for sharing your new place 💟 Something practical may be a clothes line or some other place to hang dry your clothes, if need be.

Living room, bathroom, (casual, informal), "I'm going to the bathroom." Rest Room if your're in a public place and need to ask where it is. "Where are the rest rooms please?" No heated floors, that's not normal except maybe in a super expensive mansion but even then I'm not sure. Love it though! and Love the smart idea of tucked away and practical dish drying racks!
I can't think of anything to add that you"re missing. Forgot, your windows, like other areas of Europe are awesome. Why in the heck we don't do the same has always baffled me. The lighting thing is very cool!

We in America also have heated floors but mainly in the loos not all over. I wish we had the sprayer In our bathrooms like you do attached to bathroom sink. I don’t think most Americans could live in such confined spaces though. You guys do so much in such small spaces. And without our enormous walk in closets for our mass amounts of clothes we’d be so lost. Kudos to you in Finland for doing so much in such tiny areas. I LOVE the idea of the dish drying racks hidden above the kitchen sink. Tenuous. When will you be moving to Australia?

South Australian here. We call it the loungeroom. (You 'live' everywhere). I like having a window over the sink. I've seen one I really liked with a window over the actual sink, & the plate rack over the drainer to the side, so best of both worlds. A double sink & double drainer is not uncommon here, but most kitchens are larger & few choose to live in such a tiny space. A verandah is common here. I would miss having a large outdoor living space. I did chuckle about the temperature. We have weeks between 40-47°C here. I love your view of trees landscape. We will be building dome few years hence so I am pondering these things also. (We say toilet, loo, or 'dunny')

IDEA for Leonardo: You each look up action words in the opposite language such as: hop, whistle, flap your wings, stick out your tongue, do a jumping jack, act like a monkey etc.. Then one of you in the opposite language gives the command to do an action and the other has to do it without saying what they think it is.

  • @Godhelpus62

It’s called a living room or family room in the states. Living room tends to be more formal so when a home has both, they may call it the “formal living room” and the family room is separate (it’s a more informal lounge type room), often connected to the kitchen area. Then there’s the “great room” which is the open concept room including kitchen, dining, and family room all in one. There may or may not be a separate “formal dining room!” American homes are often much larger than necessary!
