Thank you Tom - So happy to see your brilliant "Shift Videos" are back, this one was absolutely fantastic! Ideal viewing on a rainy Sunday evening. 5* content, please keep them coming, we really appreciate and enjoy them mate.
After 3 years of following your channel I finally saw you driving around London today, towards Muswell Hill. Wish I’d spotted you earlier so I wouldn’t have had to get the bus 😅
As a Londoner this is very interesting to watch, but must be absolutely fascinating for people from different shores to properly see the guts of our city.
As someone who's been living near Putney for a couple of months, I let out a strong chuckle when you got redirected there right at the end of your shift! Lovely area but the works on the bridge really are making it insufferable to go to central London these days.
I have 2 questions: - you've talked about unspoken/unofficial rules between taxi drivers, but do taxi drivers have unspoken/unofficial rules with other professional drivers (Bus or any other) or maybe doormen or anyone else? - You had a few passengers wanting you to stop in weird places where you really couldn't... what other common "mistakes for passengers" do taxi drivers make that need context for passengers?
It’s bit of a magical mystery tour if you get a driver like you. I don’t normally take cabs, but I think I would enjoy it, as the routes are always so unpredictable, which would be fun for me. I like to sit and admire how the drivers manage to keep moving. It seems to me a lot of your passengers don’t know London very well, perhaps that’s why they are taking a cab.
Tom wouldn't like it, but I have always done Underground/train/walk when getting around London. I once fell back on a bus when the Tube was overcrowded and delayed, but for the most part walking gets you quite a distance. I can understand taxis for the outer reaches where stations are far apart, but in the centre, doing a 1 mile journey, walking would only take 20 mins. Recently, outside Harrods, the traffic was completely stationary. Hail a taxi and sit in a traffic jam, or take the Underground? It wasn't a hard decision.
I really wish you would add in how much you earn during the shift at the end of the video. It would be so interesting and wouldn't come across as braggy at all if that's a worry to you. I understand a lot of people have probably asked for this before because it would be such a great addition to the video!
No offense intended but scientist found that a cabbies memory of roads is down to a homing pigeon like tracking system. Good on ya! I don't intend to drive in central London and you brave it for your job :)
@@dellerbeller ? He never used to include any images/audio of passengers, he would only describe them in vague terms ie: "two lovely American ladies" or "a young gentleman with a bulldog."
Don’t know how you guys cope with the amount of food delivery cyclists literally breaking the law all over the City. As a Pedestrian they are a menace, I would hate to be a Taxi Driver in that environment, hats off to you.
FYI the north side of Lambeth bridge is being turned from zebras into traffic lights (hence the works until Feb 2025). Motivation is the northern junction is the most dangerous junction in London in terms of cycle collisions. The southern junction is also getting changed to separate out the cycle lanes I believe.
Hey Tom! Just stumbled across your videos, and so glad I have. I love London (lived in SW as a kid). I visit regularly and avoid the tourist areas and explore further afield. all over. Great your commentary pointing out the streets and your choice of routes, and the marking on the map. You mentioned 'The Knowledge'. Is that still a thing? It must be mental to learn all that. How long did it take you to get so good? Take care and stay safe bro!
Love your videos mate :) I use taxis quite regularly and hope to get you as my driver one day! (especially when most of the drivers have never even heard about the streets I want to go to ^^)
Like your videos I'm a Glasgow cabbie it's horrendous GCC want roads down to one lane or bike lanes .. getting to know the streets of old London town 😂
I've always enjoyed your shift videos, so thank you for this one! But getting Putney at the end of a shift? Ouch!!! Always good to see the cabbie's eye view of London, though.
Looking for GHJ…👋 Putney 🤣🤣….very risky indeed these last jobs. As soon as you said you wanna go home after that Kensington drop you kept going south 📉.
I love your shift videos and it is really helping with my London geography! Are you allowed to turn down jobs if they are too far in the wrong direction for you? Thanks for all your awesome content.
Love your stuff Tom,great ambassador for the trade, may I ask yourself or any cab driver reading this.Mount st is a pain to drive, what’s happened to Stanhope gate? Is it shut now? I still have my green badge but not worked it since 2016.cheers
Tom Question A lot of Black cab drivers dislike Uber because of how they operate etc (around 45,000 in London) How would you feel is Uber disappeared and all those 45,000 Uber drivers became Black cab drivers? @@jc441-i3qJust like today. I was out for a gig last night, home around midnight. I woke up this morning, looked out the windows and decided to stay in. The chain was on the door by 3pm.
Thanks for the video. Regarding your job picking up at The Landmark, could you also have left by Harewood Avenue, L Marylebone Rd, R Upper Montagu St, L Crawford St, to get the right into Gloucester Place. Just wondering if this works and is ok. Thanks.
Yes great shout, this also works but sometimes Harewood Avenue is very busy because of the traffic lights at the end. But once you are in Upper Montagu you can cut a lot more 😊
Tom, will you consider doing a video for anyone thinking about starting the knowledge. Including setup where to start what to do first, all the equipment needed (books maps pens ect) and the costs, where to get the equipment from, any other charges and fees, things available now that are helpful you wish were available when you were doing the knowledge. Things you would've done different that you feel would have improved how to do the knowledge now you have some experience as a taxi driver and anything else you can add you think would be helpful to someone starting or thinking about doing the knowledge. Just an idea maybe you could put together a few starter packs as a giveaway for the video if you could get a sponsor on board.

Nothing more lovely than writing lab reports while Tom is rambling about street names in a city I've never been to
Haha, saw this as I was watching and doing the same
Love that the shift videos are back Tom! Always a great watch!
Yeah, I like them as chill out TV.
I thought Tom said on the 100k update that he'd be retiring them? Hopefully it will be a long time off 🤞
Tom keep doing these shift videos ❤ just u and the camera just block out customers you'll be fine 😊
yes
Thanks for putting out a new shift video, I enjoy them a lot. I know they take a lot of work for you to create. Thank you.

I've spotted him a couple of days ago driving down Westbourne Grove 😄
As a Londoner this is very interesting to watch, but must be absolutely fascinating for people from different shores to properly see the guts of our city.
When a passenger ask me to hurry, i just brake late and harder at lights/junctions …..it makes them think i’m going faster….and toddle along at 30mph.
Lol indeed, accelerate harder and they think we're speeding
@@DamienAlexander I tend to look agitated as well...Shouting at lights and other traffic. I aint gonna speed though... haha..
Love the shift videos as always Tom! What's the purpose of the tent city? Protests of some sort?
Roma pickpockets

Appreciate all the work and effort that goes in to bringing us a shift video! Thanks Tom!!

how is watching and hearing tom talking about his shift and all those routes so calming?!? its amazing
As a bewildered American we appreciate your service!

There are also wealthier London residents, like the first passenger, going his son's primary school, which costs over 8k a term.

Nice. A cabby's perspective of the madness of London traffic. Subscribing. 👍👍

Tom since you posted a video specifically explaining why you were ceasing shift videos ….. what changed?
I think he cut out the passenger interactions, and generally keeps passengers out of videos as much as possible.
@@dellerbeller ? He never used to include any images/audio of passengers, he would only describe them in vague terms ie: "two lovely American ladies" or "a young gentleman with a bulldog."

Lovely weather we’re having ☔️
Do you make your own thumbnails?!! They are so good!!

Think it is time to invest in some white board cleaner, that map is getting in a bit of a state!
Alcohol should work. Either methylated spirits or hand sanitizer gel or something like that.
Nail varnish remover as well.

yeeeeh! thought so too. cheeky birthday reveal!!! happy birthday but next year take that day off mate??
This is an Accidental Partridge goldmine
Tom, do you sell your updated versions of London Cabbie runs, for students of the Knowledge/other interested people?
Ive asked a cabbie to go fast in Germany... Took me at 70 right down the middle of an empty 50 kmh road.
It's funny you mention between 8-9pm going quiet because it's the same where i'm from as well in Torbay, always seems to die down around that time.

Have you thought of doing a “reasonably priced hotels of London” special to help us subscribers who don’t live in London?
"Reasonable" is very subjective, isn't it? Best to stick to Tripadvisor.
Because there is no such thing and he's a taxi driver anyway, so why would he do a video about hotel reviews?.
google
@@georgef822 he does reviews on sandwich shops etc.
