- David Ellis Tavernetti was born February 20, 1940.
This interview was conducted November 26, 2019 at his home in El Dorado Hills.
He lived most of his life in King City where he served on the King City Council from 1972-1980, part of that time as mayor.
During that time, the city built a new fire station and police station on Bassett Street. and upgraded the city sewer system.
He is the great-grandson of Vincent Tavernetti, the grandson of Paul Tavernetti, the son of Ellis Tavernetti and the brother of Leonard Tavernetti.
All are descendants of family from Switzerland. Vincent was the first to come to the United States.
His mother was Helen Hoag. His parents moved to King City when he was a baby
He attended San Lorenzo Grammar School and grew up in a house on the 500 block of Lynn Street.
He attend King City High School where he graduated in 1957. He attended college at UC Berkeley and studied business. He served 2 years in the US Army
After that he went to work with his father at Pettitt Lands.
Jim Pettitt was a first cousin of his father. Pettitt ran a Real Estate and Insurance business.at 222 Broadway.
Later the business moved to 333 Broadway and became Pettitt and Tavernetti, later is was TLC (Tavernetti, Layous and Clark)
David's father also served on the King City Council and as mayor.
David worked about 43 years in King city until he retired in 2006.
He was married to Sue Giacomazzi. They had three daughters: Mary, Ann and Sarah.
Sue was an ordained Episcopal deacon and served at St. Mark's Church in King City and St Luke's Church in Jolon.
He describes events in his life while growing up in King City.
