Keep the how to videos coming 👍 I personally find leaning my upper body out as much as possible on extended arms, and focas on heaps of pressure through the harness line helps with sailing overpowered (and like you say a solid stance, and don't let the wind under the outside rail lol) If a HUGE gust comes - point upwind is only way to survive 💨💨💣

Ah!! Fin pressure!!. Thank you!!!! Well, I rarely touch my foot straps since it is too much work, but I do the followings when the wind is too strong. It is working for me. 1. Tighter outer hall. (I change my outer haul a lot according to the wind condition. This is the first thing I do when the wind condition changes) 2. Use smaller (shorter fin). For my 96 L board, I use 30 cm instead of 32 cm when the wind gets stronger (to 25 cm from 27 cm for my 86 L board) 3. Move my harness line to the front a bit so that I can open my sail more. I do not lengthen the harness line often though since.. well.. I just do not feel comfortable with longer harness line.

Great video. I would have also loved to have explanations or tips as to how to control your jibe while overpowered as it is something that I have difficulties to handle, with the sail often teared off my hand. For this I think I need to have the body closer to the sail, but not sure as I get catapulted when I am doing this.

Hi Nico. Very helpful video. What about how to handle chop? Was surfing the baltic sea yesterday and in one direction whenever I gained speed I found it impossible to not be jumping. Other direction was fine. How do you anticipate the chop? Bending knees?
In Mexico (I'm not saying they are the majority but there are many) many windsurfers ignore the importance of body postures in windsurfing ... And they think that you have to be 100% straight all the time with any sail and any wind. This is where my country's windsurfing starts off badly.
Hi Nico, Great Video! Regarding posture in strong winds, during last session I had a bad feeling of torsion in my torso. Trapeze lines were balanced. I notice I often have most of the sail power down on the back foot (fin foot) only. Front foot nearly takes any... I think it might come from there..

I was also taught to round my shoulders (while bending at the hip) to get that extra one or two centimeters of extension down and away from the sail to gain additional leverage and control over the sail and to enable me to place more pressure down on the mast base to keep the board level when leaning my weight slightly forward toward the front of the board. What are your thought on rounding the shoulders (as you seem to be doing just a bit at 3:49)?

Seat harness works better for over powered, just look at the recommended stance. For me at least If you disagree just use a waist harness with the extra straps around the legs like the Dakine convertible
Hi I'm 1.90 84 kg, I use to sail on freewave boards, but now Ive bought a 130 litres novenove freerace and 8.4 freeride no cam sail for light wind... I would like to ask u how long should be my harness lines and if would be better adjustable kind off.. I have 32 inch now I feel comfortable on light wind but no when I'm overpowered Thanx for your videos
Just be careful using a powerdrill to screw on your footstraps. Nico most probably knows how to do it but if inexperienced one can very easily rip out the threadways inside the screwplugs. Always use a screwdriver with the screw stick out a few turns out of the strap, then slightly press it into the plug and turn it BACKWARDS until you feel the screw falling into the thread. Then tighten it carefully.

Ich fürchte, ich weiß überhaupt nicht, was damit gemeint ist. 😂 (Vielleicht ist das aber auch wieder so interessant, dass man dazu ein eigenes Video machen könnte). Da hilft mehr Erklärung, sowohl auf der Tonspur als auch im Video. Mit Slomo und eingezeichneten Winkeln oder Pfeilen. Und gerne mit mehreren Wiederholungen. Sonst springt man als Nutzer manuell die ganze Zeit zurück, um es sich nochmal ganz genau anzuschauen. Wenn das Video dann 7 oder 10 Minuten statt 5 dauert, isses auch nicht schlimm. Any advice for heavy people? (100kg) The nose comes up too much if I put my front foot in the strap. Maybe the sail fixed at maximum forward position will take care of this....
Is the position 4:35 supposed to work for close haulled and close reach? I do it rather easily when early planing in beam reach but can't imagine doing it while going upwind and being overpowered. Then both knees bent is best I can do. Obviously still working on reducing high speed spinouts.
@@dengordo I think what they're getting at is that if you keep speed the rig will go light, i.e you can sheet out against apparent wind to de-power when you need to, like in a gust...
It seems like you are saying "When you feel like you are going to fast, just go faster" which funny way to put it. There is some truth to this. When there is a lot of wind, going faster actually makes the sail "lighter", but you need to know how to stay in control.

D’ailleurs même pour un gabarit moyen, lorsqu'il est aligné, l'expérience tant à montrer que le grément ne tient pas la compression que lui impose le planchiste qui travaille en position debout : la position debout ne pose donc aucun problème, et il y a fort à parier que la syntonisation "mat-voile" ne soit pas bonne et qu'elle induit des actions motrices fausses. En position debout, le travail se fait au niveau de l'articulation de la cheville et le plat du pied : à priori ce n'est pas fatiguant si tant est que l'on soit à l'aise en gainage. Assis, le travail se fait au niveau des genoux : les cuisses sont très sollicités et la fatigue peu arriver très vite. Sportivement.
When i feel overpowered, it feels like i can't reach the footstraps anymore even when they are mounted in the most forward position... Any suggestions?
If you fully commit to sheeting in to sail the board faster on a higher plane (while raking the sail/mast further back toward the tail of the board), you'll feel less drag from the board, feel less over powered, and you'll be able to reach and get into your foot straps (which in turn will also give you more control of the sail and board to reduce that feeling of being over powered and that feeling that you'll be catapulted at any moment). You can still sheet out a bit with just the aft-hand (without changing the rake/sail angle) to de-power the sail a bit during the strongest gusts.

When sailing freestyle/wave gear it helps to keep sheeted in when overpowered!
What? Shouldn't that be opposite? Sheeted in - you're powered up

Is it me, or do cam sails sails have a wider band of control in overpowered conditions, vs a non cam sail?

If I go low when overpowered, quite often the harness lines will release involuntarily in chop. Any ideas what to do about that?
That means you have too much pressure on your arms instead of your harness.
@@Nico_GER7 so I need to commit to the harness more, which (for me) is kind of difficult in choppy conditions. What can I do about that?
When i feel overpowered, it feels like i can't reach the footstraps anymore even when they are mounted in the most forward position... Any suggestions?
If you fully commit to sheeting in to sail the board faster on a higher plane (while raking the sail/mast further back toward the tail of the board), you'll feel less drag from the board, feel less over powered, and you'll be able to reach and get into your foot straps (which in turn will also give you more control of the sail and board to reduce that feeling of being over powered and that feeling that you'll be catapulted at any moment). You can still sheet out a bit with just the aft-hand (without changing the rake/sail angle) to de-power the sail a bit during the strongest gusts.

Me in high Wind I prefere put my harness line further back otherwise I don’t succeed to keep my sail lock
Mhh, okay. Usually that makes the nose climb more, but maybe you compensate for that with a lower boom or the base further forward.
