- Well, we have done it - yes, we took the Corolla up to Genting for the Corolla launch. Any yes we climbed all the way up too, but it was a crowded road, so we were stuck behind other cars so much that we don't think the footage is worth it. Anyways we had Rigval and Zachary as ballast too. Thanks Riggy and Zach - you added colour to the video.

Dear Uncle YS Khong, Most of the past Hondas (typically Civic EG, EK, FD) were employing double-wishbones right? Even the Toyota Altezza is equipped with double-wishbones too. It is interesting to see Toyota is coming back with exciting cars again.

Hi YS, putting power aside and comparing this to the Mazda 3 and Civic, which delivers the most dynamic drive in your opinion?
Each has its good points. As of this moment in time it seems the Mazda is more engaging, but perhaps because it is a fresh design. In terms of overall ride and handling I must say the Corolla is a brilliant combo of soft ride combined with good dynamics.
For me mazda with their skyactiv technology really pushed all these manufactures like toyota and hyundai to make better handling cars
How's the handling on this corolla compared to civic FD? Its using double wishbone as well.
The FD should handle well too. Problem is nowadays with cost considerations, less cars with good stuff are being made. However, car makers are also getting more innovative in their designs.

Right now the Mazda has the best; perhaps because it has the latest tech, and is the newest kid on the block.

No plans as yet. The two are actually the same car, but the ES gets more luxurious trim. So both should perform the same.
@Uncle, thanks for the reply! There are notable differences though such as paddle shifters and 8 speed transmission with the new Dynamic Force 2.5 engine on the ES.

This was a drive organized by Toyota for the media. It was three to a car, so Riggy and Zachary were very much a part of the local scenary.

This car is about comfort, whilst the Civic is more about power. Depends on what rocks you!
The smile index is pretty obvious at high side, of coz not as high as the MX-5 or 86 that you have driven, the body rolls seem like ok.

A new car usually is better because of the new tech. The Corolla has the TNGA platform which is similar to the Camry, and also Lexus ES, so the ride and handling is very good. Later on when Honda change models they will probably come up with something newer and better too.
Uncle, the acceleration is good or just moderate? I mean is it easy to 'potong' 1 treler?
It has enough power for potong Kereta. As with all cars, timing is key in overtaking, and judgement of space and available time to overtake too. It is not the most powerful car in its class, but there is enough. Always look at a car in terms of your daily requirements rather than occasional wishes.

What can you say about cvt and traditional automatic trans? Do you feel so much stress on cvt?
CVT, done well is great for fuel consumption. It is still developing and the new ones are getting better. Conventional boxes are also under constant development, and some are really good. You can say I am an observer waiting on the sidelines for great things to happen.

now i know why i always have brake fade and understeer, it is because i don't chuck in corner. I am very obedient to my lane🤣. So I have to brake more and stress my front tyre
Hahaha, you can cut down the understeer by transferring weight to the front. To chuck it in you also need to transfer weight to the front and also need some steering input to shift the weight to the outside of the turn too. You can refuse brake fade by shortening your foot-on-brake time, or just go in a bit slower.

2 Gorillas with a Ranger in an Corolla Altis . It's hard to comment about the suspension, coz the extra weight made the car more stable. Whatever it's a great car. If not wrong, The next gen of vios will be almost like this. The whole car just only complain the infotainment. Really disappointed. Otherwise it's a perfect car.

Comparing to other Japan C segment genting hill test drives, this car handling seems very unstable, and noise level is quite high...
The suspension is softer, but handling is actually quite good.

The CRV is turbo charged, and is more powerful. You are correct.
Enough power for daily use, the only thing i dislike is the infotainment. Looks like a downgraded model compared to the rest of the world.
I've always though that the 1.8 was underpowered at roundabouts, giant steep hills or generally just pulling out of a intersection on a hill
