I'm just going to blame this movie for Rihanna not putting any music out in years. After this she just said "yeah, I'm done" Like, the only reason I can think of for this movie to have done any money is that Rihanna's fans showed up and filled those seats.
So I have a special connection to this movie because I was in the Navy, stationed on an aircraft carrier, in Japan, and was there when the cast came to do a press conference for the movie on my ship! So - yes - I got to meet Rihanna and Aleksander Skarsgard! The entire crew was....pretty quiet about the movie even though we were all so excited before it came out haha Edit: Japan technically doesn't have a Navy. and hasn't since WWII. They're called the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force and we got to work with them all the time - they are QUITE capable
Why is no one talking about how this movie is basically a WWII fix-it fanfic??? Like, it's in Hawaii and all of a sudden something big happens and then Japan comes in only for them to get their butt kicked by an "unexpected disaster". Then America comes in to save the day with their own navy ships and show how cool and strong they are while saving Japanese citizens!! Please tell me I'm not the only one who noticed/thinks this!?

I came in for Alexander, becasue True Blood / Tarzan and Rihannna our queen. I don't remember watching it after I left the theater. Only reason I know i saw it was the popcorn bag i was holding and it was empty... Don't forget Rihanna was in Valerian. Another movie that was forgotten by the world.

But it feel flat becasue of the generic actors they casts. Plus the attraction felt like siblings not lovers. 🙃 Wished it got more love the soundtracks are so good from it
Stellan Skarsgard and his sons(including Alexander/Eric/Tarzan and Bill/Pennywise) really are a good looking and acting clan. But yeah, the main reason I and a lot of people even remember this film is because of Ri Ri. She looks good in military uniform. That woman could wear a garbage bag and still look amazing. Queen shit. Its funny how Valerian boasted about having Rihanna as part of the cast despite her very limited screentime.
The only thing I remember about the movie is that they hired real veterans to act in it. Their scenes are the only ones I remember from the movie, too. They seemed like they had fun.
If you want a good military movie, there’s an Irish film starring the guy who played Christian Grey. He did a really good job in the movie so ignore 50 Shades the way we ignore Twilight for Robert Pattinson. It was actually really good. My brother and I found it on accident while looking for a movie to watch. It’s called The Siege of Jadotville. It’s based on a true story, has great characters to follow, and has great action. Highly recommend if you want something to watch.
I wouldn't recommend this if you're not into dark criminal thrillers, but If you're interested in the actor playing Christian, you can also check out the UK miniseries called "The Fall". He's amazing and chilling as a serial killer in that show(not a spoiler). It makes his performance in the 50 Shades movies look like a joke.
Since we're on the topic of Hasbro films/bad films.....may I offer up Jem and the Holograms? Curious to see if anyone else remembers the movie since while I did watch it I honestly could not tell you what it's about years later. Absolutely adored the cartoon as a kid so I was going to watch the film hoping to hit similar beats.
It's interesting how much your experience while watching the movie can influence your opinion of it. Saw this with my friend when it came out--we both loved Alexander Skarsgard, so it was just delightful for us when he died in like the first 10 minutes XD But we also kinda knew it was gonna be shit, and had way too much fun with it. I distinctly remember both of us losing it at the guy realizing the aliens had eyes like his lizard. It was just so funny to us. We loved it, and I still own it on DVD.
Speaking of random board games being turned into movies, Candy Land (another Hasbro product) was in development around this same time and was going to star Adam Sandler! I'm not sure what happened to it, but I wouldn't be surprised it's still in development hell or a dumpster fire.

He probably would have been better off taking some smaller roles or doing small budget projects as well as doing some dramas and comedies instead of just action flicks. Still fine as hell though, especially when he had the longer hair.

However, he was really good in the Waco miniseries a few years back and his bit part in Wolverine Origins even got me stoked/hopeful for a standalone Gambit film (though I would like to scrub the rest of this movie from the brain!) And yes, long hair or short, he's mighty fine 😅

When a script is approved, that usually entails pro bono access to goverment equipment, locations, and extras as long as the military is portrayed in a...specific way.

_Battleship_ is one of the only four films I saw on theather on my life, "Third World problems" some may say (the other three are _Pocahontas, Captain America: Civil War_ and _Avengers Endgame)_ ... anyway, some people has call it "an atempt to make a Michael Bay Transformers film without Michael Bay" and I have to agree, Peter Berg is way too traditional to copy Michael Bay's style effectively. The film lacks the intoxicating camerawork and misantropic distain for its own protagonists that makes Bay's Transformers movies memorable, _Battlefield_ is just bland

My favorite scene in this movie is the absolutely absurd scene where they target the boueys. It was just a way to tie the board game into the movie. When the started calling out grid numbers I laughed out loud.

I would love to see an In Defense Of for the 90s horror rom com My Boyfriend's Back. For some reason it has very low scores on imdb & rotten tomatoes but it has nearly 5 stars on Prime. I just don't get it. It was one of my fav movies growing up. I cannot for the life of me get why the majority seem to hate this movie. Imo this one could really use a judge KennieJD looksee/evaluation.
A year or two ago, I asked my former uni groupchat for trash movies, because I was in a trash movie mood, and Battlefield Los Angeles I could get through, I complained heavily about the camera work, but I could get through it and I thought Michelle Rodriguez looked cute in it. But this clusterfuck? I couldn't get beyond the football (or was it american football? can't even remember lmao) scene, and there's no way in Hell I'm trying a second time, so I gotta applaud Miss Kennie here for making it throught the damned thing.
I remember a little bit of this movie from the one (1) time I watched it. And that's only because I remember focusing on it for most of the runtime waiting for a plot twist to happen- I was SO SURE this wasn't the actual movie and they were faking me out.
There was another movie that came out around that looked an awful lot like Battleship and I think we went so see it but meant to see the other movie and was sorely upset we saw that instead of the other movie.
I vaguely remember this, yes because of Rihanna. I'm pretty sure I saw it on a flight, or just not in theaters. The clips look...familiar, but I remember very little. I think I felt "meh". I like explosions, so I didn't completely hate it, but I wouldn't feel compelled to watch again either.
Somehow I got roped into seeing this in theaters, and I will never forget sitting there after movie after credits just..... dumbfounded. Like........I really just sat here and my mama paid Money for us sit here an watch this...film? And with all the supposed "drama" I was just..... 😅 I'd rather sit an take the hardest test if my life than this. It was so full of no substance just "action" and a budget for explosions 😂 When the big realization an weakness of aliens Is that they like leopard geckos 😂😂😂 and they can't see with light an why they need helmets for basically mega sunglasses like WHAT 😂
Just a rule of thumb, the total cost of producing a movie can be safely guessed to be double the amount of its production budget (for mostly marketing). It's not set in stone, but assuming it's a somewhat correct estimate, Battleship actually cost the studio 418 million dollars, and only make 300-something. It's still a loss, ladies and gentlemen!

I never got to play battleship with friends like the board game, but Freddie Fish had a similar game on CD-ROM like it was a task on part of the game and I loved playing that.
_Battleship_ is one of the only four films I saw on theather on my life, "Third World problems" some may say (the other three are _Pocahontas, Captain America: Civil War_ and _Avengers Endgame)_ ... anyway, some people has call it "an atempt to make a Michael Bay Transformers film without Michael Bay" and I have to agree, Peter Berg is way too traditional to copy Michael Bay's style effectively. The film lacks the intoxicating camerawork and misantropic distain for its own protagonists that makes Bay's Transformers movies memorable, _Battlefield_ is just bland

My favorite scene in this movie is the absolutely absurd scene where they target the boueys. It was just a way to tie the board game into the movie. When the started calling out grid numbers I laughed out loud.
100% would suggest " the day of the woman (1978)" , it's brutal and painful to watch but has a rather cathartic ending .

I played the Board Game battleship as a kid. I remember me and my mom dying laughing when we saw the trailer for a Battleship movie. We are like "how are they turning this board game into a movie?" Like if it's monopoly or clue, yeah you have something to build story with. But Battleships is pegs on a board. 🤣🤣
I do remember being excited about the animations when Battleship became a computer game tho. And I was way older then six. There was a low bar to impressive video games then.

I would love to see an In Defense Of for the 90s horror rom com My Boyfriend's Back. For some reason it has very low scores on imdb & rotten tomatoes but it has nearly 5 stars on Prime. I just don't get it. It was one of my fav movies growing up. I cannot for the life of me get why the majority seem to hate this movie. Imo this one could really use a judge KennieJD looksee/evaluation.

A year or two ago, I asked my former uni groupchat for trash movies, because I was in a trash movie mood, and Battlefield Los Angeles I could get through, I complained heavily about the camera work, but I could get through it and I thought Michelle Rodriguez looked cute in it. But this clusterfuck? I couldn't get beyond the football (or was it american football? can't even remember lmao) scene, and there's no way in Hell I'm trying a second time, so I gotta applaud Miss Kennie here for making it throught the damned thing.

I vaguely remember this, yes because of Rihanna. I'm pretty sure I saw it on a flight, or just not in theaters. The clips look...familiar, but I remember very little. I think I felt "meh". I like explosions, so I didn't completely hate it, but I wouldn't feel compelled to watch again either.
Somehow I got roped into seeing this in theaters, and I will never forget sitting there after movie after credits just..... dumbfounded. Like........I really just sat here and my mama paid Money for us sit here an watch this...film? And with all the supposed "drama" I was just..... 😅 I'd rather sit an take the hardest test if my life than this. It was so full of no substance just "action" and a budget for explosions

Just a rule of thumb, the total cost of producing a movie can be safely guessed to be double the amount of its production budget (for mostly marketing). It's not set in stone, but assuming it's a somewhat correct estimate, Battleship actually cost the studio 418 million dollars, and only make 300-something. It's still a loss, ladies and gentlemen!
