    As someone who appreciates research, but has trouble finding truth with so much money being spent to hide or twist it, I’m grateful to have found a well educated professional who wants to genuinely help people care for their furry family members. Thank you for making this make sense and spending your valuable time to spread truth.

    Well, as your resident Hills rep (retired) subscriber, on behalf of Hills, I accept your score of 9. I could argue the fiber issue but scoring a ten seems obnoxious. I’m good as long as no one else scores a 10! I’m pretty confident no one will! Your review as usual was great. I will say the study they mention for weight loss was seperate from the AAFCO feeding trial. The feeding trail is to prove the food can maintain weight. Interesting side note…. Hills. Relieved high fiber produced satiety but once they started studying metabolism they learned obese pet’ s metabolism was so unhealthy, the hormone trigger to the brain is turned off! So when prts on our r/d told you their pets were hungry and begging, they were right! Perfect Weight is not simply low calorie. That will not burn excess fat. Perfect Weight activates their metabolism so they start burning fat instead of storing it. And their satiety trigger starts working again too! Pretty amazing stuff!

      I also agree. Anyway, comparing nutrients to general adult dog food recommendations is not really relevant considering this product is intended to pets with special needs (in this case weight issues), so some nutrient contents has to be adjusted to be appropriate for it's goals.

    • @AnimalDocRea

      Because it’s otc and marketed for adults i wanted to compare to adults but that’s why I said we have to make a special consideration for the fiber

    Hi, started watching your channel and am so grateful for the information. I have a 6yo standard poodle who I’m trying to get a good quality food for. I finally landed on Hills Perfect Digestion. It fit all the criteria for nutrition. So was going to pull the trigger and start her on it. I just noticed the hills ingredients has ground pecan shells listed. I was wondering your thoughts on this as an ingredient? Is it something to worry about? Also was curious what specific brand/food you feed your dog? Thank you!

      Ground Pecan Shells are used as a source of fiber, adds sweetness, and also antioxidants. It is a pretty awesome and innovative ingredient to use actually. I have bought this for my chihuahua based on this review. He's not fat but I don't want him to get fat and I liked that this seems to be nutritionally very sound.
    We're currently finishing off a bag of Purina Beta, which is the UK brand that sort of fills the Purina One niche (There's Pro Plan, then Beta, then Bakers as their 3rd tier.) I wish I could get the info on Beta so I could decide if it is worth the savings, as it's half that of the Hill's.
    I know you get a lot of requests, but if you could take a look at the UK variants, that would be so appreciated. Pro Plan is the same, but Beta and Bakers are unique to the UK.
    In addition, Iams and Eukenaba are owned by Spectrum in the UK and aren't technically WSAVA compliant here. I would love to know how they do under your scrutiny.

    Could you please do a comparison of the hills perfect weight dry food for cats vs purina pro plan’s weight management dry food for cats? :) I’m having a hard time deciding between them. My cat has been on the perfect weight for a long time but I’m not sure the formula is working the best for her. It doesn’t seem like she can ever lose the last couple lbs on it, and I can’t decrease it any more without her acting desperately hungry. The pro plan one has less fiber but is higher in protein so I thought maybe it could be a better choice for her.

    My comment keeps disappearing, so if it shows up more than once, it is not my fault. Another one of your entertaining and enjoyable videos. But what fun is it , if I agree with you ALL the time! LOL Most dog food costs much less than cat food. This is about the same as a mid grade cat food. Yet it has ingredients found in low cost cat food. Meal is a rendered product, that the FDA does not oversee very well. You give points for corn gluten meal and chicken meal, while saying raw or grain free is bad. Allowing for a dog's more human-like digestive system, that still seems generous. I will give you that a dog can process those things better than a cat, but I would still question their inclusion in such an expensive food. When I go to the website, clicking on "Ingredients" or "Average Nutrient & Caloric Content" puts me back to the main product page.

      I think the answer is Yes. Dr Morris back in 1948 really started the whole idea of dietary management to manage disease. There were no Purina or Royal Canin therapeutic diets for decades. Hills has always done more research and employed more vets, chemists, and board certified nutritionists than any other company. So for veterinarians like Dr Rea and thousands thru the years, hills was the trusted standard. I Loved being a veterinary rep for Hills. I studied not only our nutrient levels but also Purina and RCs and loved showing vets why Hills was better. And I was blessed to do it for 34 years! And when I retired, I ended up starting my channel, the Pet Food Puzzle Guy, to try and share my experience and knowledge. I do remember Hills spent money to do surveys when they were stating 2 out of 3 vets feed Hills to their own pets. They had to prove it legally, which they did. Vets recommend it because vets see those diets work. It’s that simple.

For last 30 years I’ve search dog food reviews n the unfortunate part that is no one really know what best for dog to eat. Perhaps that the reason some people decided to feed their dog home made. Funny, many years ago the industry tell to people not to feed dog of the table. My vet told me that she feed all her dogs Purina. I asked why? She replied Purina who started dog food industry 100 years ago n they’ve been in the business for awhile. I don’t mean u have to feed your dog Purina. My point is that if your dog like the food that’s good, regardless what brand u choose. The sad part that the dog doesn’t get to choose what food to eat, people do.

    • @AnimalDocRea
      @AnimalDocRea  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The good reason for using corn is that it can provide protein while not adding minerals. Many diets that follow the no corn marketing trend have minerals in extreme excess due to inappropriate protein processing and poor quality ingredients. Corn can also be used to make a diet that is nutritionally balanced but still at a price point that is achievable by individuals that love their pets but need a budget friendly option. By excluding certain brands from consideration without first considering the nutrition they provide, you limit yourself needlessly. Recalls are an economy of scale and if its going to be considered at all, most likely should be done so as a percentage of units sold/produced. I think you will find that if done this way, the number approaches statistical insignificance.
