- From the creator of gm_Boreas, gm_Fork is a map for Garry's Mod so large you need a car to get around. The winding hills, empty city, rusting Soviet architecture, and more, make this one of the most requested maps on my list.

aah, gm_fork. the amount of NPC battles I set up in that little coastal town could rival some IRL battles in bodycounts, ha.
I can't recommend the night version of this map enough, something about the way the skybox looked in my vr headset was so incredibly atmospheric in a way i cant describe

I remember playing a version of this map called Knife (seriously lol) that was a post apocalyptic version of this map. Basically all the structures were in ruins, the bay was dry, and the whole place had become a desert with barely any foliage. I loved it cause the large open spaces contrasted with the elevation changes and ruins made it an amazing place for tank battles using various tank mods. Sadly I don't think the map is on the workshop anymore

I think my own creepy feeling is kicking in - I swear you've covered this map before, but I've been on this map countless times due to Star Wars RP that, I can't tell anymore. Getting my own nam flashbacks looking at certain locations and it's horrific to imagine it *actually* peaceful and not warzones like what I'm used to
Hah I hear that.. Theres so much I remember from the time I was still doing swrp stuff.. the central warehouse always either being a target zone or a HQ (usually the latter), the mass spawning of droids everywhere, the chaotic uncoordinated yet fun events.. Pilots (like me) being unable to take off due to having no clear landing pads but somehow still managing to get into the air
Never did war rp on this map but me and my friends had scp type situations where one side tried to use the monsters and kill you or you tried to kill the monsters and them. Multiple shootouts. Missile strikes. Tank battles. Screaming and panic.
He was going to but it didn't work properly, I think.
@dogecoin investor oh trust me the only star wars thing about it is the fact that theres vehicles spawned in, and the enemies are either droids or rebels and the players are all using either clone or stormtrooper models.

When I discovered Librarian's channel I was finding myself once again after the start of a new chapter in my life, he helped me sleep at night for such a long time and he still does. Thanks for every video and effort you put into these videos that helped not only me, but those like me.
It’s funny you mentioned how you felt Boreas was perhaps a “reaction”/sequel to this map, expanding on the idea of the underground secrets, because iirc when Boreas first released the creator said they intended to do a similar amount of underground areas for Fork but actually hit the hammer brush limit with all the surface buildings, and didn’t really want to sacrifice the city and surrounding areas for the sake of an expansive underground.

I ported this map to VRChat! I absolutely love gm_fork, I have so many fond memories of it and probably have at least a hundred hours on it. Awesome to see it covered.

It's so weird seeing this map without any derelict cars in abundance or eerie fog hanging all around you. I've experienced this map not in Gmod but on VRchat. Someone made a more abandoned version of this map and it was so interesting to look at. Perfect for creepy photos around Halloween too

By far one of THE best GMod maps out there. Source is very underestimated when it comes to creating open-world experiences, but this map does it masterfully.

You're absolutely right about gm_boreas being a reaction of sorts to this map. I wanted to focus mainly on explorable interiors there, and didn't work on any of the surrounding landscape until after the main underground base was already mostly complete.
By contrast, there was actually very little planning involved in gm_fork. I started out by creating the river fork near the bridge to the city and then just decided to keep expanding it until I'd either lose interest or hit the maximum map size. I feel that this approach of creating and detailing one area at a time resulted in the map feeling much more densely packed than gm_boreas (in terms of outdoors areas, at least). Unfortunately it also meant that as the map neared completion, I ran into some compiler/engine limits that forced me to remove a sizeable underground base. The base would've been accessed via an inclined elevator behind the rightmost door at 8:50, and via an underground rail station connecting up to both of the collapsed railway tunnels. All of this still exists in the map's source files, and there might be some edits of the map out there where it's been successfully restored using custom compilers or other workarounds.
The SteamVR map you mentioned was more of a side project of mine and is much smaller than my GMod maps. It's probably not as suitable for exploring, but if you do make a video about it I look forward to seeing it.
try r_flushlod in the console to fix the invisible doors! it might just work
This used to be one of the go to maps for me and my friend when we played Gmod. it was big and open enough for us to truly mess around with.
If you want to explore an eerie countryside check out countryside from Mafia 1/Mafia 1 remake. Btw this map in the video reminds me of early 2000s racing games.

This just unlocked a childhood memory. I can tell you myself, this map does have a high sky box. I use to fly my star wars ships around this map in like the mid 2010s I never thought I'd see this map again.

I had the same bug with invisible doors. The map can't render some objects when you are too far from them and then coming to them.

@@user-ql9cc9hg4e Oh. I think you misunderstood what the OP meant. I don't think they meant an artstyle or general "look" to the maps, but rather the style of map-design, in which case the creator commonly focuses on large, open-world experiences.

I don’t even play Gary’s Mod, or any of these games, but I found this page through liminal space searching. Since finding this channel, I’ve wanted a PC just to explore these maps, it seems like such a freeing and dream-like experience.

I played in a server that was Gears of War RP a few months ago & this was the map that was used. It's so well made & has a lot to see. The sort of military base thing that you looked at was actually our base of operations while playing on the map.
im so glad you finally played this map, it's one of my favourites for fighting npcs and also messing around with flying vehicles and gbombs missiles. there's also another version of this map made for a battle royale gamemode which this map is also really well suited for

Such a great map. I suggest you also check out other versions of this same map, there are some with minor changes but it adds new areas and secrets to gm fork

Ol' Buggy is good 'n' all but for a Creepy & Comfy road trip it's best to have a Creepy & Comfy vehicle. Something like Plymouth Fury or Oldsmobile Delta 88...

I was literally going to recommend this map on your next Garry's Mod video. I played this map recently and it is truly awesome
I've experienced the invisible doors glitch. I don't use VR mod so it's definitely not that. It usually fixes itself if you just restart the map. It's annoying and completely random in my experience. It's probably caused by some addon but I have yet to figure out which.
Also I reccomend the map rp_littletown, it's a cozy German town on the surface, but hides a creepy underground network
To fix the invisible doors, have you tried typing r_flushlod in console?

I have done so many car chases and crime scenes using TFA CoD WW2 weapons and realistic blood mods and ragdoll physics mods and simfphys vehicles and nextbot chases and surviving gDissasters tornadoes,hurricanes,meteors,meteorites etc.
Also you should play the horror adventure game KONA.

Absolutely love this map, one of my favourite things I used to do was to play hide and seek in teams using a drone mod. It's expansiveness made it great for it; would definitely recommend if you got a few mates to play with.

For car choice - maybe you will like simphys cars? if that mod works along VR ofcourse... but it allows for much smoother and realistic-ish ride, and faster one too.

You could check out gm_asylum. It’s a small map but it’s a sight to behold.
This was the map I remember sprouting my love for Gmod. I watched my cousin play on it way back and new from the moment I saw it “I had to get this game.” Certainly a nostalgic place for me
gm_Fork was the map i used to play with nukes. I would go to the watchtower, place a nuke and freeze it, activate it, place a c4 on it, go as far away from the nuke as i could, and just watched the beauty all happen
I remember detonating a Megaton Nuclear Warhead on this map in 2016. Ahh memories of destruction brings a tear to my eye...
I feel like "every" map is a long requested or highly requested one lol which is probably true but I always wait to hear it.
Quite a few people end up posting the same suggestion over in the Discord... and others repost the same map or game in the Discord from time to time.

really liked this video, good vibes on this one lol. been meaning to ask since i figure the folks who watch this channel might be my best bet, i played jedi knight 2: jedi outcast a Lot as a kid, particularly custom made maps, and while watching the librarian play gmod maps i've been reminiscing a bit and was reminded of one jk2 map with an underground section and a patrolling texture of a scary looking... chihuahua, i think? i believe it was just a box with the texture on it, and it would kill you if it touched you. that's all the details i can vaguely recall, would be fun to pinpoint that nagging memory :)
The red star on the wall of the building you visited after the old ruins near the beginning could suggest that this is set somewhere in post Yugoslavia. Maybe Serbia or Bosnia. Somewhere like that perhaps. Fantastic map!

Gm_fork sometimes there are a lot of content creators who make videos about testing the nuclear bomb mod because it's also a big place to be a good viewing spot
I have vivid memories of playing hide n seek (with guns) with some friends on this map back in the day, the go to spot was the radio tower to snipe

Broooo this map is so damn nostalgic to me,i remember watching a vid way back where a dude and his friends spawned an army of sanic nextbots (back then when they were famous) and had to survive walking around the map and try not to die to a sanic.
I wish the map had the Muscle Car instead of the Scout Car. It's more maneuverable, not as twitchy, and the sound is much better for cruising.

My absolute favorite map to drive on. Just put on a playlist of Twisted Metal OST, spawn in a Simfphys vehicle, and drive around.
A question for anyone reading this: Do you instinctually drive on the correct side of the road in video games? Exclusions being anything like a racing game or a game with vehicular combat.
I know it was 11 months ago, but I'll still answer. In most games I just drive along the right side of the road if I can. If it's a multiplayer game I always do because it feels correct to me. On single player games or when a road is narrow or curvey I stay towards the middle because it's easiest to drive that way.
Kinda sad seeing all these comments calling this map nostalgic. I never played gmod myself and it seems like I have been missing out big time. Well at least I found this channel as while back to experience the echoes of people‘s memories on these maps. Thanks for playing!

This was a good video, finally my favorite map was covered… buutttt you did miss something, there is a pointless little bunker up on a hill that’s next to the giant Soviet base.
No idea why but the mansion that you called some rich guys house gave me Victorian boarding school vibes considering you referenced Madeline I guess that's appropriate
