Hey Librarian! Just a pointer: With the Flashlight SWEP, when you pick up a prop, it actually bugs the flashlight for some reason. So if you're gonna pick up a prop, then I suggest to swap, to avoid this bug.
The "LoD" thing that you mentioned at around 9:50 is actually just Source engine fog doing it's thing. Several explanations as to what's happening: - The way fog is rendered in Source (depending on the settings of the fog controller), it does not work well with wide screen resolutions or high FOV player camera. So looking at things from a certain angle at the edge of your screen can reveal things in fog due to how the fog is affected by the player's view. Imagine the camera as a flat vertical plane, and the fog's influence as a sphere around that plane/the player. The wider the camera plane (FOV/resolution), the more distorted/stretched both ends of the sphere become (which starts to become an ovoid) to compensate for the plane's length. This contributes to the wackiness of fog (if set improperly) because of how closely it is tied to the player's camera. - The fog controller's start and end values are quite close to each other and the fall-off is drastic enough that things can disappear in certain view angles and pop in in other view angles. The further the start and end values are from each other (and from the player), the more gradual the fall-off and the less noticeable the effect at greater distances. - The fog that's being seen at the edge of the map is actually 3d skybox fog, which has its own properties that are separate from the main map's actual fog. If the values of both version of fog don't match up accurately, you can get varying degrees of vision through fog depending on where you're looking at in relation to the main map and the skybox. - Any combination of the above
In other words, fog shader uses not distance away from camera, but a depth - how far ahead this specific pixel is. Which causes you to actually see further through the fog on the edges of your screen. I remember being stuck for hours with my own atmosphere shader for planets acting all sus - creating circular shapes of bright and dark spots; - until I realized what the problem was.
Lol I played this map with the 10 of my friends with proximity chat and walkie talkie mod. In the underground area we split into group of 3. You know the underground weren't scary if you have your friends around. Eventually we all got bored and decided to play hide and seek. One of my friends, MrFloppyBottom is his username and his real name is Jacob is the hider and while me and my friends trying to find him, he walkie talkie us that he heard banging on a door we responses "wdym a door? Is it your door?" He replied "nah man it's the in-game door!" We all got shivers and all noclip out of that place. What an adventure

I really like to explore these maps on my own, but many times I get too scared I just decide to spawn some npc to follow me and comfort, but in the end they just end up creeping me more. It really is comfy watching your vids, keep up the good work!
I thought this map was just gonna be a liminal space map without any intentional scares. The moment something knocked on that bloody door my heart skipped a beat
The way you review these maps is actually very engaging, instead of giving a basic overlook to the details it actually does look like you strapped a gopro on your forehead and went on a journey to explore the map, I really enjoy when someone gets immersed into a map, especially when the map is so detailed and lifelike, something that the Source Engine excels at, even if it is from 2004.. The reactions are something that add to the experience, people shouldn't really be bothered by it, so I hope you'll keep exploring these awesome maps, don't let the mean comments get to you.
Most people ( including myself) are very cautious and hesitant to explore these kinds of areas. I and some people I know and various youtubers I've watched would go "nope" and just give up, but you just hop in and get it over with. I like how your not hesitant to explore and discover eerie areas.
I have become absolutely addicted to your videos :) even when they're scary they're also somehow so relaxing. btw the graffiti at around 33:50, I'm not positive but I think the black figure is holding a megaphone, not an ax. very appropriate for a russian map if so
You should definitely look at rp_southside next. It's an incredibly detailed but lonely map of a part of New York City, and it always gave me that creepy/comfy vibe.
the way you stopped talking about the not trying to look tough for youtube to try and pick up the soda can, then feeling actual joy once you find that you can and carrying it the entire time you explore the building is going to be the highlight of my entire month, thanks.
Bro, i also know what's causing your flashlight to bugged out, so if you equip your flashlight turned on or off and pick any kind of interactable props like soda can and drop it, you'll notice that the flashlight doest turn off, instead it increases its brightness or contrast, still occurs when you're holding other weapons in your hand, i noticed this bug from like I was playing at rp_zombie_town
In Simphys Lua Vehicle mod this also occurs too, like doing that method and ride on any vehicle then exit the Flashlight even goes insane brightness and also can cause lag
I don't think people also realize that VR is quite immersive if they have not tried it. Standing over a cliff and looking down always sends a chill through my spine even though I know its just an illusion.
i live in Russia, Murmansk and i see locations like this map literally every day. And theres some nice little detail. You see, Murmansk is located above arctic circle and at winter IT'S ALWAYS NIGHT. Sun rises like for half an hour or 2 hour. Nice video, thanks alot.

I think one of the reasons why Garry's mod maps are so creepy is the lack of NPCs. It is very difficult to include immersive/custom npcs in creating a map in source, so most creators just exclude them, which in turn results in loneliness. When you can't include NPCs that add immersion, you become reliant on map details, which is perfect for these videos. Now that gmod vr has become more popular, I wonder if there will be any spooky maps designed specifically to be explored in vr
Dude your content is amazing. I just found out your channel yesterday and I already watched most of your GMOD exploration videos. The key thing is that your commentary is not boring, you always have something to say and it's actually pretty entertaining to hear you talk about the nuances of each environment. Keep the great work 👍
I get the whole walking around an empty place while the lights are on feeling. I live nearby a shopping center and sometimes when I can't sleep at night I go for walk. I always found it odd that all the lights are on but nobodies around as far as I could tell. That and the busy road now empty along with an empty lot always made me a little on edge. Felt like I'd get in trouble if anyone saw me.

Part of me wants like a whole game just dedicated to exploring a city, and you can basically set up camp in any room in any building you feel like, and just bring items and clues back to your base of operations while you pick away at the mysteries of the town over the course of many long sessions.
Для меня всегда было странно видеть русские надписи в видео на другом языке. Понимать то что сам автор мог не уловить. Автор, если ты это читаешь то знай, что у тебя отличные видео!
I actually played on this map before but I am a scaredy girl so I just quit playing once I found out there was an underground because I was too scared, so seeing you playing it kinda just relieved me since I now know whats there without having to escape my comfort zone which even slightly dark areas break into
When he mentioned the after-school feeling, which took place in November to December, I was shocked because I had not remembered that feeling in over 6 years.
I played this map just a few days ago, thought it's a nice place to listen to some music. Didn't expect this place to be that creepy underground. Very nice and very atmospheric! Also great commentary. This doesn't feel like a game video, it feels more like some urban exploration with a gopro. It might "just" be a map in an old game engine, but the commentary and the vr perspective make it feel very real.
These GMOD VR videos always show me a new light to GMOD and how interesting it is that your reaction tells a story behind these maps. Keep up the good work, Librarian!
Totally get you about immersing yourself in and experiencing something to the fullest. I sometimes have this thing, which I find funny where I try to theorize about events that aren't even real. It's like making creepy stories with a group of friends when camping in the woods. Nothing won't happen, it's just a forest but you still get scared from your own imagination because you get so involved in them.
There's something about the way you speak in videos that almost feels like I'm chilling with Steve before he went to college, you talk to us like we're you're best friend and its great. Love your vibe. Get subbed.
I saw that chair out of the window and thought of the idea that they are all sheltered in their homes due to curfew, so they open their windows and drink together there. It feels bittersweet.
you inspired me to try the map before the video... that door in the dark creepy area with the body made me nope out of there faster than crap. awesome map with awesome atmosphere !
I always enjoy these exploration videos in gmod VR, I love all the talk and all the environments in the game. I love liminal spaces and such empty spaces like these. Keep up the awesome work!
Theory: the town had a serial killer who’d cut up some of their victims and leave one of the body parts around the map as that would be where they killed the person. The town (being aware of the serial killer) would issue a curfew while the player might arrive while the curfew is in effect as the killer is patrolling the area. The sounds could be the serial killer stalking you as you wonder around a seemingly empty town without a clue as to their killings. The body that can be found in the sewers might’ve been of someone who wanted to warn you of the killer but got killed by the killer (hence the scream). The chute might lead to the (butcher?) shop you first entered.
Looking at some of the details included on the buildings, you can tell that the person who made the map knows a lot about the architecture of ex-soviet states. It really adds to the quality of the map.
4:08 I find it pretty genuine, even though I have never got the chance to try VR I do get this uneasy feeling that something could happen any moment while exploring some Gmod maps and the same happens while exploring in STALKER.
Being familiar with source games since like primary school, I really appreciate you taking the atmosphere in and rediscovering the magic of its primitive yet familiar aesthetics. Great content
your channel going for the creepy comfy vibe really fits its comfy because its just someone running around discovering aspects of a quiet gmod map its creepy because of, well...the context...
20:55 a cinder block would kill most people if you dropped it from any type of building, the rumor is actually "if you drop a coin from the empire state building it will gain enough speed to kill someone below"
Me coming back again and again to the GM experiences for your genuine reactions, allowing yourself to feel what you want to, and because it is always comfy here, no matter how creepy it gets. Also, i have to come back and rewatch ones that i fell asleep to.
I saw this map too in the Workshop before my Garry's mod being deleted, some cozy Russian streets in the night very similar to the Union City aka Southside, i shall probably say thanks to the creator of this map
I've loved this map for a long time, even before I found your videos. I always thought it'd look like something you'd review. It's awesome to see you post about it.
Okay this is amazing, I love how you don’t fight how your feeling because it’s nice to actually someone be honest instead of acting like a brick wall while playing cause you are right that does get boring. And the way you have so much to say draws my attention in more because you give so much detail it keep me so interested, this channel is so underrated.
You missed some stuff. A dark figure can appear sometimes on the map. A torso of a mannequin can be found in some buildings. A car moves at some point. A dead body in the underground area (not sure how you get that). A really creepy image in the sewers (hidden behind breakable bricks)
17:17 "Main reasons why you wouldn't want to live in Russia; it's cold, it's depressing, and the rent costs and arm and a leg." I will never, ever get tired of The Librarian being The Comedian, his casual delivery is absolute gold.
Always interesting to see things from foreigners perspective. Map is really creepy with such unusual (and close to residential) factory part, didn't saw exactly similar in Russia
Maybe with exiting movie theaters during the day or entering a store at night, it could be a jarring juxtaposition going from light to dark and vice versa, after being in either place for so long.
That window with the person listening to KINO in their room brought me back to highschool so bad, I sat there outside the window for almost an hour and just reminisced.
I just decided to play this map because of the video since I wanted to experience it for myself before watching. While I was in that sewer area, I was walking through a really dark area, and I suddenly had whispers start playing in my ears. Literally caused me to panic so bad. This map is a nightmare in disguise, truly.
I think I've found the killer! If you go back to that early area where you enter the rest of the sewers, from that underground basement area, there you can find a dark flight of stairs, atop which is a dead end with two wooden planks, if you break the planks, you will find a little hole in the wall that will show you what appears to be the killer or some other malevolent entity. I won't go into further detail, so that people will continue to download and search this map, but it may he worthwhile to do a second video or a small update. Edit: also the way to get into the lair is through that 3D sewer grate. It's a small false wall, made of destructible bricks on one side of it, and if you crawl down from there then you end up in this old tunnel and cavern-like structure. It could be that VR made it more difficult, or the Parkour mod made it easier for me to find, but it's all connected, not a single area is inaccessible through normal means.
i cannot fathom exploring all this all by myself, the feeling of loneliness makes it all so much more scarier. this was a really awesome exploration, keep it up
i could probably fall asleep in a vr gmod map, line up my bed with one in the game, and then when i wake up i think ive gone insane from my 3500 hours of gmod
I like your videos. Particular the ones that involve liminal spaces. It's rare these days to just have genuine and non impulsive narration of playthroughs. I like your content 👊. I need to purchase a vr setup I would really like to play that Paris catacombs map.
Near the end, when you clipped into the underground area with the similar stone hallways, there was a scream that just made me acutely aware of how secluded and alone the player is. The screams also seemed to be getting closer.
Only watched a couple videos from you so far. But first impressions are great. Love the way you narrate. I feel like im listening to someone reading a fictional book from the main protagonist's pov. Love it!
The lights fading when you look isn't an LOD thing. It's the fog getting closer. Fog is based distance to the edge of the view frustum, and since view frustums are trapezoidal they are longer in the diagonal than straight-on. Games have slightly greater draw distance when looking at a 45-degree angle.
something about your videos are so cool, I feel like they are the exact thing I want to watch it sorta feels like exactly what I think when I'm playing games or doing anything a bit like my own internal commentary but instead its your own voice perfectly describing these things
42:02 😨 this map did that well the whole time I'm watching this I'm like where's the creepy jumpscare where's the weird thing that's going to happen arms and legs where's the killer and then just seeing the board fall over on the way back after probably finding his hideout that is terrifying And then finding like the dead body dumping spot and just hearing him banging at the door that is suspense
Gotta say, these videos give me a lot of hope for potential S&Box VR horror maps in the future. If they can do this with Gmod and a janky VR mod imagine how they can be with an expanded toolbox and native VR in mind.
Your voice is so calming, I really enjoy your videos! I appreciate the pun at 17:18 lmao Spoilers for the video: "Thats a bowl, was somebody keeping somebody here?" Fuuuccck that, the map creator really outdid themselves lmao, was genuinely uncomfortable and unnerved watching this stuff, the creep factor really got upped at 39:30
Your narration is so good. It takes me back to my childhood and the comfort i used to find in these games. How simpler life was back then. Please never change.

“What the hell is this weirdo going on about?” Lmao
Lmao
Ngl imagine having a monster fallowing you as you venture out and intentionally makes you felt watched just to hear what your impressions and nonsense as you slowly spiral into insanity before it finally shows itself to you and using your own voice it's picked up from the countless hours listening to you thanking you for the journey before slaying you sounds awesome
10:10 this moment made my skin crawl because I thought the exact same thing, I wasn't expecting you to actually hear that as well, felt like I was there with you!
love the very monotone "Hello everyone, and welcome back once again." as opposed to the very vibrant "HEELLooo everyONE!!!! and welcome BACK, once AGAIN..." of today.
Hey Librarian!
Just a pointer:
With the Flashlight SWEP, when you pick up a prop, it actually bugs the flashlight for some reason. So if you're gonna pick up a prop, then I suggest to swap, to avoid this bug.
"продукты" on the building mean's grocerie !
It's all for today russian leson
The "LoD" thing that you mentioned at around 9:50 is actually just Source engine fog doing it's thing. Several explanations as to what's happening:
- The way fog is rendered in Source (depending on the settings of the fog controller), it does not work well with wide screen resolutions or high FOV player camera.
A lot of other games do the same, not just source engine actually
TLDR in source fog is a plane and not a sphere like in modern games
@atoka2206Bethesda's gamebyro/creation engine does
Lol I played this map with the 10 of my friends with proximity chat and walkie talkie mod.

I thought the guy being held at gunpoint was holding some kind of axe when I played the map-
It looks like a man holding a gun to another man holding a loudspeaker.
Your narration on these maps are at a whole different level. You're able to describe feelings that I wouldn't be able to. It's actually incredible
I really like to explore these maps on my own, but many times I get too scared I just decide to spawn some npc to follow me and comfort, but in the end they just end up creeping me more.
It really is comfy watching your vids, keep up the good work!
Get the portal core base and have portal cores talk to you.
Nice pfp
He’s done the map by now!
the way you stopped talking about the not trying to look tough for youtube to try and pick up the soda can, then feeling actual joy once you find that you can and carrying it the entire time you explore the building is going to be the highlight of my entire month, thanks.
I literally tought "He should play this map" while playing on this map today. Damn

You're killing it lately. Instant-click every video, besides No One Lives Under The Lighthouse because im planning on playing it myself.

Really accurate. Before school, in winter, i usually went like this.

Night. -25°, im alone in concrete jungles of chrushchevkies... Blizzard of snow makes me not see far, just loud blizzard sound and all... Game : ШХД:Зима Shows it well too. Im walking in this litlle forest to school, alone, in darkness and cold. There is no road, just 1 meter high snowbank

I mean most of sources stuff comes from half life 2 an apoclypse game.
25:15 bro i would have had the exact same reaction, like you stand 1 second in front of it and you imagine that something is gonna come crawling in the pipe so you just run, i love how i get so immersed in your videos that i got scared too, i really need to replay gmod in vr again
I just found your channel recently and i must say...Great fucking work!
Watching you explore these horror/liminal maps with or without VR is always a blast, especially with your commentary on the side. You really put in effort and dedicate a lot of time into your videos and we appreciate it.I hope you reach atleast 1 Mil subs with your channel one day, you deserve it.
Gotta say, you popped up in my feed at 7:50 on a Saturday night and I clicked on the video out of pure curiosity. Now I am subscribed and eager for more videos. It felt really genuine when you were speaking almost as if we were just on a voice call while you screen shared on Discord. You have a good thing going for you here, and I'm glad I could come aboard for the future.
Also, your ability to see things most people wouldn't think twice about is interesting. Your theorizing ability is top notch.
I love how calming this guy is, it’s like manlybadasshero but alittle more high energy. Definitely gonna stick around!
Part of me wants like a whole game just dedicated to exploring a city, and you can basically set up camp in any room in any building you feel like, and just bring items and clues back to your base of operations while you pick away at the mysteries of the town over the course of many long sessions.

I actually played on this map before but I am a scaredy girl so I just quit playing once I found out there was an underground because I was too scared, so seeing you playing it kinda just relieved me since I now know whats there without having to escape my comfort zone which even slightly dark areas break into
I have this map and I didn't even know it had all the secret stuff like the leg and the hand and what's on rooftops
When he mentioned the after-school feeling, which took place in November to December, I was shocked because I had not remembered that feeling in over 6 years.
Currently my favourite channel on TH-cam. Never stop these. GMOD is a goldmine.
11:40 that is where the lug is inserted to keep the hand on the mannequin's arm
Get subbed.
"Now the question is.. what does all this meant to-" 25:16 *extreme hyperventilating*
Great content
as someone who grew up in russia, this brings back very familiar vibes. its almost strange how familiar and also nostalgic this looks.
im so happy that your channel is finally growing in numbers! keep up with this amazing content ^^
Your videos are so sick, I fall asleep to them. Thanks for making good content homie.
your channel going for the creepy comfy vibe really fits
its comfy because its just someone running around discovering aspects of a quiet gmod map
its creepy because of, well...the context...
“The rent costs an arm and a leg!” I spit out my drink.
I love the way you narrate this, it’s unlike any TH-camr I’ve ever watched
20:55 a cinder block would kill most people if you dropped it from any type of building, the rumor is actually "if you drop a coin from the empire state building it will gain enough speed to kill someone below"
You didn't get the joke.
Hi bro! Thanks for looking at my map! My map is gm_liminal_archive.
P.S I am Russian therefore there may be mistakes in the notes
Okay this is amazing, I love how you don’t fight how your feeling because it’s nice to actually someone be honest instead of acting like a brick wall while playing cause you are right that does get boring. And the way you have so much to say draws my attention in more because you give so much detail it keep me so interested, this channel is so underrated.
You missed some stuff. A dark figure can appear sometimes on the map. A torso of a mannequin can be found in some buildings. A car moves at some point. A dead body in the underground area (not sure how you get that). A really creepy image in the sewers (hidden behind breakable bricks)
I saw the figure while I was trying to find the sewers
The body in the underground is triggered, if u saw the hole with blood there, that's where the body is from. Ur welcome
I love it when the days get darker makes everything alot cozier
I laughed way harder than I should have at that “arm and a leg” joke!! 😂😂
Old soviet era stuff is fascinating to probably everybody but the russians lol.
is it just me or are the stories he tells so interesting i could honestly listen to him for hours
The librarians voice is so calming
true
The most true thing I have ever heard in my life
I just decided to play this map because of the video since I wanted to experience it for myself before watching.
Theres a lot of apartment maps you can chill inside.
I like your videos. Particular the ones that involve liminal spaces. It's rare these days to just have genuine and non impulsive narration of playthroughs. I like your content 👊. I need to purchase a vr setup I would really like to play that Paris catacombs map.
wow this map seems pretty cool!
no fucking way!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like how it has Skyrim props in that first shop, lol.
42:02 😨 this map did that well the whole time I'm watching this I'm like where's the creepy jumpscare where's the weird thing that's going to happen arms and legs where's the killer and then just seeing the board fall over on the way back after probably finding his hideout that is terrifying
And then finding like the dead body dumping spot and just hearing him banging at the door that is suspense
Gotta say, these videos give me a lot of hope for potential S&Box VR horror maps in the future. If they can do this with Gmod and a janky VR mod imagine how they can be with an expanded toolbox and native VR in mind.
Your voice is so calming, I really enjoy your videos! I appreciate the pun at 17:18 lmao
Spoilers for the video:
"Thats a bowl, was somebody keeping somebody here?" Fuuuccck that, the map creator really outdid themselves lmao, was genuinely uncomfortable and unnerved watching this stuff, the creep factor really got upped at 39:30
Your narration is so good. It takes me back to my childhood and the comfort i used to find in these games. How simpler life was back then. Please never change.
