I was looking for someone who plays the 900 colorsound series well. Pure hammer hand, no tempo, but you are pure groove. you make that series sound like no other. The saying goes: it is not the arrow, it is the Indian. Nice Cymbals, Nice Groove.
Damn, that was insane! Great drumming! Some people complain about the color drying out the sound, but honestly, I kind of like it, it makes the cymbals sound pretty unique.
I was never a huge fan of the color coated line only because appearance seems to take precedence over sound quality when they're played unmiced and not processed through recording equipment. But if you're able to record and mix the cymbals properly they don't sound bad. I do love the paiste cymbal shell drum kit. I can't imagine how much it would go for on the open market. Probably the cleanest and accurate sounding shells you could ask for. Solid drummer here too.
As a Paiste user since 1986, I've been looking at getting some red colorsounds specifically for a project that has a lot of red in the band logo. And I use a DW clear acrylic kit. Just thought I"d try something different, visually. But I'm torn between the 900 and 2000. Or even the 5, if I can find some used. Maybe even the 2000s are out of print, so used would also be the route I'd have to take. After listening to 2000s vs 900, it sounds like the 2000s are the better choice as far as sound quality goes. But this is the first video I've seen that the 900s sound better than I thought. Maybe it's because they are mic'd up in a studio. I will be mic'd up on stage every time I use them. So 900s might be the way to go. Still searching for a 900 vs 2000 vs 5 comparison video to help me with my decision.
