I just now realized another hint that Miles is dumb - right before his "murder" he started to say "As Watson said to Holmes" and the end has to have been supposed to be "The game is afoot" which is wrong. Watson doesn't say that to Holmes, Holmes says it to Watson
Right when Miles first shows up he's playing the Beatles song "Blackbird", which is about the black civil rights struggle in America. Meanwhile he's a white guy who took the work of a black woman for himself. He truly is a dumbass.

It’s such a cool detail because he gets interrupted before he can be wrong. I asked Rian Johnson about it on Twitter and he confirmed it.
And Blanc says that to Marta in the first movie. "The game is afoot".
I only noticed on a rewatch that the musical clue in the invitation box is also directly telling us the structure of the film. “A fugue is a beautiful musical puzzle… layered back over itself it starts to change and turns into a … new structure.” When Helen/Andi is shot, the story also loops back onto itself and changes what we already saw to show a new and different meaning when it replays the same scenes.

@@LordVolkov LOL yeah, When he popped up on screen I was like, "Holy hell, is that Yo-Yo Ma", I immediately paused the movie to check IMDB. Also, got to love the Angela Lanbery cameo to (playing Among Us).

That's the only time I'm in agreement with Birdie. It killed quickly, the autopsy will show an allergic reaction, people will automatically suspect an accident, even if they remember it's Mile's glass. I sounds like an honest to God accident. Picked up the wrong glass with something he's extremely allergic to, but is a common cocktail ingredient. It's way more clever than using poison.
@@Crazy_Kakoos Well, yes, but he wouldn't really have been able to switch the glasses if Birdie wasn't showing off the dress, so, even if he had gotten away with it, he owed a lot to happenstance, not really brilliant planning.

Honestly, the character of Mile's probably only thought in two steps. 1. He needed to kill Duke. 2. Pineapple will do it and not be obvious. He probably never considered how good this method actually was.
@@Crazy_Kakoos I feel exactly the same way. Poisoning Duke with pineapple was maybe the one brilliant thing Miles did. He can easily just say that he added pineapple juice to his own drink-there's no reason he shouldn't-and that Duke drank it by accident. Idk how he would have explained Helen's murder, so he definitely wasn't thinking far ahead in general, but if he wanted to silence Duke then what he did is probably the smartest way possible.
@@andre1999o he made the drink while she was doing it then asked her to show it again. not to mention you have a bunch of drunk people. not too hard to make a distraction over a time period of a few hours. that moment was happenstance but it should have been doable anyways
i like how they show you Miles giving Duke a glass, but then when miles says what happened they re-show the scene with duke taking the wrong glass, and THEN reveal the original scene where miles gives the glass. when my dad watched this he caught it and assumed he just remembered wrong until the reveal.

Thats the great thing about this movie it doesn't cheat at all like in the poolside scene with birdie and peg you can see the recorder being thrown into birdie's bag.
This is very unusual for you to react to a new release, Addie. You must have really enjoyed "Knives Out"! Ididn't notice when I first watched this that Benoit Blanc greets Helen by her name "Helen" on the stairs before she is shot. This is before the reveal that Helen is inpersonating her sister. Great reactions to this fun mystery that doesn't disappoint, Addie!!!🎬🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Benoit calls her Helen before she gets shot! It is right before the reveal of the twin flashback. How did I miss that, my daughter's name is Helen!
That’s the fun of Knives Out though, it doesn’t treat the audience as dumb for not catching the clues or understanding the context. It intentionally keeps the clues a mystery and utilizes unreliable narrators wonderfully to keep the audience entertained while utterly out of the loop.
I'm not sure what you are trying to say but you can follow all the clues and solve the mystery. You hear him tell Blanc he didn't write the mystery or create the boxes, you can see the phone in his back pocket, you only hear "pancaked" twice, once when he said it was Miles and once when they said he was almost pancaked on the road to Andi's. Everything you need to solve the mystery is right there and you're constantly in the loop. Again, though I'm not sure if this is what you were saying.

@@existing_human7237 i disagree, you cannot solve the mystery yourself. you think you can cause you've already seen it, so you can see the clues on the rewatch. but on a first watch you are out of the loop until it's all revealed.
@@progfrogg I disagree with you good sir. I feel you could solve it because when I was looking for it on rewatch all the clues were clearly lied out and traceable. I wasn’t looking for the clues and was just trying to watch the movie the first time and even I noticed the “pancaked” clue and watched Miles put the drink in Duke’s hand. I feel if someone went in here and really focused on the little details that fly by they could solve it.
In fact many people did without all the clues because that’s how simple the mystery really is.
That was Yo-Yo Ma who recognized the Bach fugue
This movie was so fun. What im realising now after a few react is that not many (none so far, or none stopped to mention it) people realise that Blanc calls Andy "Helen" on the stairs before the gun shoots. Im sure its not the only hint that are given earlier than we realise.
The Miles did it and it being too obvious - that's the glass onion :) An onion with layers but you can see through to the center, and when you peel away the layers you get ... exactly what you saw at the start. Love the storytelling and the way things unfolded and had fun w/ your reaction!
What I really liked about this is you don't realize the murder took place before the movie even started and the whole time you're like "Who's going to die?" until the flashback.
There were two murders.

I didn't see Glass Onion until it was available to watch at home and watched it the first day. There were a couple of reactors who had videos already up and I watched those afterwards.

I love how Benoit already said Helen to Helen when they meet just before she got shot. Only, we at that point think she's Andi. First watch that flew right over my head.
Me too. When the second time came around I thought “Wait, did he say that before?”
I just realised, in the dark outside when "Andy" runs up to Benoit Blanc moments before she's shot he calls her Helen.

Great reaction. The detail I just noticed watching your reaction is that Blanc yells out "Helen" when he is meeting her outside just before she is 'shot.' Getting to re-watch and see all the little details and hints you miss the first time is so great.
Fun fact: the random guy Derol is the same guy who plays Trooper Wagner from the first movie
Noah Segan is in every Rian Johnson movie and always hilarious.
Addie you should check out Rian Johnson's Brick from 2005. It is a Noir murder mystery in a high school setting. It's very good,
Brick is highly underrated despite a fantastic performance from Joseph Gordon Levitt.

I love how the last shot in the movie is Helen with a Mona Lisa smile.
What I find so great about this movie is that in most whodunnits, you have a smart protagonist, surrounded by not so smart people. In Glass Onion, you have a dumb protagonist, surrounded by smarter people. I think it’s genius.

You may not see my comment but I'll make the suggestion anyway, if you liked this movie then maybe an old classic you may like as well, it's called And Then There Were None 1945, it's a great classic black and white mystery

Awesome reaction, Addie. This Rian Johnson whodunnit was so welldunnit and I can't wait to see Benoit Blanc's next mystery. I even enjoyed the cameos from Dame Angela Lansbury & Stephen Sondheim (RIP to both) as well as Yo-Yo Ma, Natasha Lyonne, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Jake Tapper, & Serena Williams. I also enjoyed seeing Knives Out (2019) in the theater with my girlfriend, back in November 2019.
Oh and another whodunnit I suggest is Scream (1996), and its sequels, Scream 2 (1997), Scream 3 (2000), Scream 4 (2011), Scream (2022), and the upcoming Scream VI (2023). Don't worry they're not-so-scary they're comical meta-slasher whodunnit horror films.

This movie is such a gem. Its one of the most enjoyable movies ive watched in a while. I recommended it to my parents and they really enjoyed it too.

I watched this movie 3 times thinking I was seeing Florence Pugh as Whiskey. Wasn't until much later that I found out that Whiskey was played by Madelyn Cline. Mind. Blown.

I've watched 3 reactions to this movie and no one recognizes YoYo Ma.
I saw miles hand him the glass right from the start.. but I questioned "why" I was wondering if I solved it early on, and kept questioning myself.
Same here. Honestly, I thought it was a blooper or something that just wasn't picked up. Sort of ruined the twist. As soon as we learned of Andi's death and Helen was her sister, I immediately figured it was Miles. Although, I assumed it was actual poison, and not a pineapple allergy. I just figured the line "Duke doesn't do pineapple" was just a tongue in cheek shot at an "alpha male streamer" who has a fussy diet.
@@__Philip__311 The twin sister twist, the game of clue was extra hints that this twist was purposely going to be dumb.

It has that same arent I funny with my black sarcastic humour, style, and talking head through out, making you feel that your doing time, stuck in there with them, in all the...stage play claustruphobic circumstances.
And it's as if they thought, lets get a group of has been actors (Jam Lee Curtis, Don, MIAMI VICE Johnson, Chris Plummer) & put them together in some grand 10 bedroomed house, & use the Agatha Cristie formula, this time with an American cast, weve seen it all before though with- PINK PANTHER, MURDER BY DEATH & many others

This was my favourite movie of 2019. I loved it more than “Avengers: Endgame”.
While I liked the movie, I think the original was far more enjoyable. I understand what Johnson was going for her in the whole “disruptor” ending. But it just seemed less coherent of a solution and less satisfying as a result.
It took me a few re-watches to really appreciate this movie. Once I stopped trying to compare it to the first, it became a LOT more enjoyable

I always chuckle when people say they couldn't figure out Chris Evans was the bad guy in Knives Out. Y'all must not have watched the trailer because it full-on gives him away.
So, going into that movie, so Chris Evans, why are you the bad guy. And literally every single clue in that movie pointed to him. From his name being Ransom. To him, having the only real legit motive. Like yes, everyone had motive but it was done in such a way where everyone had motive so no one had motive, it was all too clean, coupled with the fact that not a single clue pointed to anyone.
And why does Chris Evans have the only real legit motive? Because he was the only one who knew everyone was getting cut out of the will.
But let's also not forget the most annoying sin - Rian Johnson literally has the old lady tell us who the bad guy is when she thinks she sees Ransom. And if Rian Johnson ever admits that he was hoping audiences would think she said grandson, I would slap him in the face.
So I really hoped this movie mystery was better.
It was. But it suffered the same issues.
The trailer gives away Edward Norton. And really, the plot gives him away. It's the Spooky Island plot I call it, where the bad guy is the rich guy that invites everyone to the island in the first place. It's done in Scooby-Doo, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and others. And now this.
So again, going into this one, I was like, "So, who is the bad guy, and why is it Miles."
I disagreed with the film trying to tell us that everyone had a motive to kill Miles. He's their golden ticket, his death would be the worst thing for each one of them. So when Blanc said they all had a reason to kill Miles, I was just like, that's a f***in lie lol
No one wants to kill the billionaire.
Everyone had a reason to kill Andy, though.
The only thing is we just never know why Miles was the bad guy until the flashback sequence with the revelation of the Femme Fatale.
The whole Miles giving Duke the drink sequence was ballsy. It fully relied on you to not see him give Duke the drink or for you to immediately forget it. Miles was my top suspect, so I was just watching him as he was the only one you could see in plain sight anyways, and you could easily see him hand Duke the glass. Then Duke dies, so now I'm wondering not who killed, but why did Miles kill him. Which again doesn't get answered until the start of the flash back.
In my opinion, this film would have been light years better had we known going in that Andy was a fake played by twin sister Helen. It would have added an insane amount of ajspense in every single one of her scenes, knowing that she was in danger every time she was alone. It would have made everyone else seem that much more of a suspect as they all quite openly opposed her and all had very real reasons to kill her and protect not only themselves but also Miles.
Coupled with the fact that the way Janelle Monae's character is portrayed in the film contradicts the whole Glass Onion motif as the film makers lie to us to hide her identity despite Blanc knowing who she really is and this film being told through his perspective.
All the right pieces, just in the wrong order.
Still a lot of fun though and so much better than the first.
I also noticed Miles handing Duke his own glass, although I was watching on Netflix so I could scroll back a few seconds and make sure. For me, the fun part was waiting to see if Blanc could put the pieces together. I think it is a nice twist to reverse the first film. Ransom tried to trick Blanc through a clever misdirection, but the detective was too smart. Miles almost got away because it was too obvious and Blanc isn’t good at the simple games which seem stupid.
I only just noticed the out-of-order sequence is because the film itself is a fugue which circles back to change into a new structure, just like the musical clue in the invitation box.
The first movie was much much better than the sequel.
And the first movie wasn't that good either.
Don't get me wrong...the actors and the acting were fantastic in both. Really good performances.
What both these movies lacked though were good storylines.
They can still both be truly loved for what they are, if you are able to overlook the "movies gotta movie" things in them. What I mean by "movies gotta movie" is when a movie (or tv show) does something that makes absolutely no sense or a "plot convenience" that you go "ok, that's not believable" or, "that would NEVER happen". In and of itself this sort of thing is not a problem, just about EVERY movie and tv show has them. They are fine, when they are limited and well written in... but some movies/tv shows just have WAY too many and are really poorly done... just like in this movie.
I certainly understand why people love this movie though. I mean it's easy enough for a lot of people to overlook those and just enjoy what is there...and there is a lot to love. But for me I personally can't overlook writing THAT bad!
these aren't traditional whodunits, theres nothing to figure out. you just let it unfold.
The part that bothered me is why the blond chick who's boyfriend Duke was intentionally murdered by him, would not testify against him. There was nothing in it for her.
BTW, that terrible looking painting with the red swirls is a duplicate of an actual painting that literally sold in real life for something like 45 million dollars. I only knew about it because of a video I watched about the travesty of modern art and how many of that garbage is sold in the millions not because it's intriguing or used by a skilled stroke of the brush but because of talentless artists who the elites decide are important or not.
This is why Rian Johnson should give up the idea of making more STAR WARS movies and focus on original projects instead

And, as a 3+ decade Star Wars fan myself... our fandom really attracts the absolute premiere sponges.
I really enjoyed the movie. But I have to say I was pretty disappointed by the big "reveal" that it was him all along. Because that was very obvious.
I think people get too caught up in the idea of figuring out whodunnit that they don't realize that isn't really the point of these films. Rian plays with genres, has since Brick, and these films are no different. Both are more about deconstructing the mystery genre, how we get from A to B, as opposed to the answer. That's the fun of these films. Blanc flat out states as much, none of it was particularly genius, the genius lies in the execution.
Yeah, def not on the level of the first. Still pretty damn entertaining though!

This is a wanna be Agatha Christie's script by the worst film maker of all time, it's was sad to watch and I had to watch it twice....
What a cluttered up POS movie! Too many characters, too much dialog and what's with the endless face close ups? I hated that I watched it all the way thru
The first film was an icon as a whodunit film like CLUE. I thought this was an amazing sequel! It had me on the edge of my seat as if I watching a slasher thriller! I really can’t wait to see what they do for the sequel! I highly recommend CLUE, National Treasure 1-2, series, and Enola Holmes 1-2.
