Thanks so much for watching, I’m planning to do another similar video in the upcoming weeks going a little more in depth on setting up! Hope to see you back!
This is fantastic information. I've been looking at videos for months now and I've been timid about pulling the trigger on a few kits because I couldn't decide what was necessity and what was add-on/wants for getting into saddle hunting. I do see how the brake/lock on the carribeener would be exceptionally helpful and useful.
For safety, always have a rappel rope and gear if climbing trees on whatever method is used. Also learn self rescue techniques and have the extra gear to do self rescue. JRB Climbing has a good explanation for self rescue for climbers
Thanks for the feedback! I am a level 2 certified rope rescue technician, so I’m professionally trained in rescue techniques and rappelling! (Career Firefighter) this is good advice, thanks for watching!
Yep, we also have high angle rescue teams on our workforce. My hard lesson learned was a condition where I slipped on my tether to the furthest point and couldn't get back up to my climbing stick. Able to recover, but taught me that I better have a lifeline that reaches all the way to the ground, so my full length climbing rope is my tether. I've seen other issues of being in danger from climbing stands or saddle hunting with just a short tether and lineman rope way up high, with gear failure and no way back up or down.
Enjoyed your video. Can you do a video of shooting around the tree. particularly weak side. I have been watching everybody's style and would be interested in yours.
I believe I covered offside shooting a little better in an earlier video called “DIY tree saddle” that a did a year or so ago, hopefully it helps. Thanks for watching!
Retractable dog leash works better for getting your gun up or bow. Also use lone wolf way better. I’ve been climbing for 15 years before most ppl knew about it
I was studying up on DRT today actually, not sure how I feel about it yet but I’m willing to try! I have some rope rescue experience myself and DRT is something I’m looking into, thanks for watching!
@@everydaysportsmen I was skeptical at first, but it was world changing. It opens up so many more trees, and you aren't limited To just the trunk. Using a preset, I walk up to my tree and I'm at hunting height within 90 seconds with almost no sound. And it's very safe. You are pretty much on a long tether the entire time. (Super light too)
Thomas MacDonald it’s cobra weaved across the whole front, and cobra weaved through the center where the post makes contact! It makes it completely silent, and gives enough texture you can easily feel it with boots on to know where the edge of the platform is at. Thanks for watching!
I watched the video a while back and again today and I was trying to figure out how you tied your stick on the tree? I currently have 8mm rope on my sticks and I'm looking to switch to amsteel hence looking for a good knot to use. Thanks in advance
@@everydaysportsmen yes it's deffiantley a game changer for me last season was my first time using a saddle it was great I was able to go where ever I wanted and just hunt and was blessed to fill all my tags as well. Good luck this season!!
Pro tip: Tie a knot in the tether below your kong duck or ropeman. This will act like a backup incase that cam fails for some reason. (Credit to some pro, not me)
Thomas MacDonald I honestly don’t. I think I measured the length I wanted to cover on the platform and tripled it in paracord so if it was roughly 15 in I cut 45 in of cord
I like to run it between my chin and nose, but the tree ultimately decides how long I run the tether. You really can only get a feel for it by sitting in the saddle and making minor adjustments
If you wouldn’t need a platform to hunt I’d be in it 💯 but you still have your steps your harness your “stand” and also all kinds of ropes and gadgets ! Wts the point? Just use ur loc on
All my equipment I use now weights 9lbs total, that’s sticks and all! With the exception of camera gear of course! This setup is just easier and more streamline in my opinion, and I’m actually more comfortable and have more mobility around the tree! To each there own, I just much prefer this system!
True that's all it really is I made mine out of a linesman belt and it works ok just not comfortable for sitting long hours nothing beats my tree lounge though dont know if you remember those
Ot isn't the safest way you can climb, that's a huge lie about saddle hunting , look at accusers involving linemans belts , you will get messed up if you fall even with a linemans belt on , a linesmans belt does not arrest a fall .
Saddle is not for everyone. It’s certainly not new. It started in the late 70s died out and is making a bit of a comeback. I don’t like it. Very uncomfortable Imo New mobile stands are the size of a lot of saddle platforms. I’ll take a stand and sticks all day.
@@newkingjames1757 I don’t doubt it’s great for you. It’s not for me. I gave it a fair chance. The lone wolf and beast stand and sticks are so light and easy to set up. Saddle just isn’t for me
@@richstafford1245 Have you tried it with DRT? It's a game changer. (it's how arborists climb) (specific hunting saddles are much more comfortable nowadays)
The MadRock is rated down to a 8.9mm rope for climbing. (8.1mm for rigging/rescue) I’d try and stick with a 9mm and larger. I’m not saying it wouldn’t work, but I wouldn’t recommend it!
One of the better videos for information/equipment that is required for saddle hunting that I have come across.

Well explained video, I just got into saddle hunting 👏 👍
Thank you for this video. As a newbie saddle hunter I can't tell you how much this helped.
I feel the same way!
No problem! Thanks for watching, and glad it helped
Thank you! Appreciate the super simplified explanation.

You should definitely make more videos..
Thanks, will do!

Nice vid. Props on pushing SAFE climbing. 👍🏻
Best video I've watched. Appreciate you 👍
First time saddle hunter. Haven’t tried it yet. This video is very helpful. Thank you. Good luck this season.
Thanks for watching! Best of luck to you as well!
great video explaining the entire process
I agree. The platform is a necessity.
Great video, very clear and practical.
Thank you for the information
You bet!
great information, great video!
I like putting my sticks on the left side so I can swing over the top of the tree more. I don’t usually expect deer to come behind me

Pretty good stuff
Yes , fantastic ! Could a person hunt with the lineman’s rope and the tether as extra protection ?
Yes you absolutely could, it just seems to hinder my mobility in my personal experience!

You should look into DRT for climbing the tree. Imo, it's BY FAR the best way to get to climbing height. (It's how arborists climb)

I’m looking into it primarily for preset locations, maybe I’ll like it enough to ditch my new “one” sticks only time will tell!
@@everydaysportsmen I've got about 20 presets in so far and I'm hoping to have 50+ come the fall.
@@everydaysportsmen I'm willing to bet you'll ditch the sticks eventually. Haha. I haven't found a tree I couldn't get in.
How did you Powercord wrap that platform. Looks amazing and give you a look for when your climbing

Amsteel mods for your sticks
Always connect to your tether BEFORE climbing onto your platform of choice....

I have some laying around I just don't wanna start and end short. You remember about how much cord it took you?

I have a 20 ft length of rope I want to shorten. Is 6ft long enough to get around most trees?
Yea 6 ft should be fine, mine is about that length

How do you get your gun into the tree???
I clip the same rope I use for a bow into the strap of my rifle and lift it up.
When you mention all the parts you need you didnt mention the rope locking device. It looks like you are using a Kong.
I’m using the ropeman 1 ascender!
But without a 2 man stand where do I put my backpack with my little debies and hard candy😂
I carry a tree hanger and bag, and keep snacks with me. Little Debbie’s and candy should have been included in my list of “necessities”
nope, inaccurate. you didnt mention Crocs once, everyone i know whos serious about saddles has crocs. good video man!
