@Orgonobin The Crow came from the Hidatsa people, not the Lakota. The Lakota were one of the Crow's most hated enemies along with the Blackfeet. The people who became know as the Hidatsa themselves migrated to the Missouri river from the lands to the east.
Not only did Lakota hated Crows. They hated Pawnee, Kiowa, Ojibwe. They also fought other neighboring tribes such as the Eastern Shoshone, who were traditional enemies of Northern Arapaho. Arapaho were allied with Lakota.

For thousands of years these tribes existed in America, which is full of incredible resources. Why did the American Indians not have steel or iron tools or even the wheel? Why didn't they grow their own crops instead of relying on hunting only? I know the man did the fighting and the hunting and thenAnd the women did most of the work. Why is that?

They mined and worked with copper and they also did grow things like tobacco,corn,squash and beans.
Didn't see a need for it i suppose, not to mention copper and many tribes did plant crops like the other comment said
